Hit and Miss

"Are you saying that that Driscoll found his mate?  And a witch at that?"  The man growled in annoyance.  He was drinking a glass of wine which he managed to spill onto the table as he heard the news.  

This puts a wrench in his plans.

He had been devising a plan to take down Driscoll and his Blood Moon pack for years now and him finding his mate was very untimely.  Since Maxim is a well-known Alpha, harming his Luna would also put a damper on any plans he had for that pack especially since the Luna is a witch.

Such dumb luck.

The door opened.  He turned and smirked as the oddly dressed woman entered the room.

"You've come at a s**t time, Mariana."

Mariana Selvig was a witch who assists him in his plans with Driscoll.  She is quite skilled in dark magic and also a costly associate.  His family has been working with her coven for decades now and so far the whole deal was quid pro quo.

"If this is about the new Luna of Blood Moon Pack, rest assured that I have the means to sever whatever bonds she has with Maxim."  She muttered before taking a seat in front of the study table.  The man smirked before taking a swig of the wine he was drinking.  He knew that this particular witch actually has the hots for the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack.  She had been very vocal about using magic against them but that would tip them off that I am doing something against them so they had been doing underhanded tactics to at least undermine the power Driscoll.

"What pray tell are you planning?"  He asked with sarcasm.

"I have been working on a spell.  It would sever any mating ties that b***h would have on Maxim.  Since she hasn't been turned yet, their pack is planning a huge assembly with their pack members.  A few witches were invited for the assembly and I am one of them."

"How did you manage that?"

"The little twit has close ties with our coven."  Mariana looked at her blood red nails.  Like him, her coven was raging a silent war against a witch coven which as of late has been stale.  Her envious nature was almost leaking through her personality, like sludge forming a black slime around the room.  "They think that by forming a certain tie with us makes us their friends but the more they trust us, the more we can worm out way into their circle.  After all, the dark can always hide within the light and none will be the wiser."

He laughed out loud.  Devious times needs devious methods.

"I will count on you, witch.  Do your job and Maxim is yours to play with."  He chuckled darkly.  He had expected that everything will soon be his.  No Alpha can fight against the charms of a witch and he was sure that the downfall of Blood Moon shall see the rise of his own pack.

Mariana watched as the people in white milled about.

She had never understood the need to socialize with other witches.  Her coven was very adamant with reconnecting with Carol Weiss' coven but she wanted to murder the whole lot.  Rules are worthless when you can't do anything to control someone else's fate.  Like what she did with the young nerd who managed to anger her yesterday by bumping into her.  He kept on apologizing, saying that he didn't mean to bump into her.  She really didn't do well with cowards like him.

Since she needed a blood sacrifice for her spell, the boy was a god send.

She smirked at herself.  

She had never been religious but she devoted her time with the dark arts.  She maybe wearing white in this god forsaken event but inside she detested the purity and the farce of innocence.  Soon, she will rise up from all these weak witches.

The event started with a speech from Alpha Maxim.  The humans that were invited were led to believe that the event was an assembly for the principal, the current Alpha and his guests.  There were toasting and wine raising as he also introduced Carol Weiss as his girlfriend.  Everyone cheered.  Loud applause can be heard echoing throughout the assembly hall.  Mariana snaked her way from her table towards the stage.  Her spell would require her to be near the stage and since the Beta and Gamma were nearby, it would be difficult to approach them without sparking suspicion.

Soon, Carol Weiss introduced her best friend to perform on stage.  Leilani Warner was dressed in a simple blue dress that reached her knees and wore simple blue heels.  She started to play hauntingly on the grand piano, the notes catching their attention and giving Mariana the signal to approach the stage.  The right time must be done, Mariana smirked as she whispered the beginnings of the spell.

The music rolled and enchanted everyone.  It was such a beautiful melody, its notes echoing and calling for its audience to pay homage.  Leilani seemed breathtakingly beautiful as she held her hands onto the piano's keys, each finger almost dancing onto the keys in their own rhythmic way.  The Alpha was rubbing the back of his Luna as he smiled dreamily onto the stage.  Mariana smirked.  Soon your dreams will become nightmares - she mentally thought of how to make the Alpha beg.  Such wonderful death can be brought about by one simple spell.

The spell was to remove the mating bond from the Alpha and the witch, circumventing it and turning it to her own.  Once the spell is completed, even the Moon Goddess cannot undo the spell.  Mariana could not wait for the spell to complete.  Power will become hers at last.

She was so engrossed with her spell that she failed to notice one of the members of Carol's coven looking over at her suspiciously.

Leilani continued to hold the audience's attention as she played her way through Beethoven and Chopin.  Bryce had tossed these pieces as her assignment before the concourse and had been planning to choose one.  So far, Chopin's work has been more interesting to her ears.  She played intensely for a few minutes more before finishing it up with a flourish.  The applause was deafening.

Leilani stood up and gave a deep curtsy.  At the exact moment, the spell was completed and Mariana was aiming her fingers at Carol who happened to move forward to give Leilani a hug.  When Mariana's fingers extended, the witch who was observing Mariana reacted immediately and used her own spell.  She used her ability to trade Carol's place with Leilani.  The spell hit Leilani's body and she glowed brightly.  Everyone panicked.  The Beta and Gamma tackled Mariana to the floor but the spell has been cast.

How can you remove a mating spell from someone who was not even mated?

By turning her into a baby.
