Ruby had always dreamed of finding her soulmate, but when she discovered that it was her own brother, William, she was torn between her love for him and her responsibilities to their pack as an army. As she worked tirelessly in the army, Ruby tried to suppress her feelings, but they only grew stronger. When William appeared to save her life during a mission, Ruby was shocked to learn that he had been exiled for refusing to mate with anyone else. Together, they decided to build a new pack based on acceptance and love. As they journeyed through the woods hand in hand, Ruby felt a sense of peace and contentment. She had found her mate, and together they were going to create a better future for themselves and their pack.

Chapter 1
She stirs when the sun's rays enter her room. She closes her eyes for a moment before standing and jumping. Even if her thinking is still foggy, she is already smiling broadly. She cries, "Finally!" and the entire house can hear her.Ruby spins around in the reflection. Despite being subtly dissatisfied, she still sounds happy. She draws her face closer to the standing mirror and says, "I thought they said you would feel different, and when you look into the mirror, it's like you're seeing a new self. I don't perceive anything distinctive about myself.Ruby wants to enjoy her day, so she decides to push the thought to the side. She turns eighteen today, after all. In a short while, she's back in front of the mirror, taking in her reflection in her worn-out blue jeans, white crop top, and white Vans.It takes no time to get to the living room. She pauses in front of the picture of her parents and lets out a sob. She murmurs, "You know, you guys should have been here. Maybe I would feel different about this day," she says, but immediately washes her face. She is determined not to let anything ruin her birthday celebration. Since she awoke, the day has genuinely felt different for the first time. The breeze is more invigorating outside, and it almost seems as though it wants to tell a tale. Her eyes droop at the ends as a smile fills her face. She was already debating where to go first as she prepared for the day. It was clear that William wasn't at home. She decided to start by looking for her buddies. They had all decided to get together at a restaurant the previous day. She directs herself there without having to call them. She can already see Wylie and Lylie waiting for her. As soon as she enters the restaurant, she sees them. When Ruby joins them, Wylie says, "Good thing we decided to choose a booth that's close to the entrance." Her two buddies' faces are covered in grins.Ruby is perplexed and wonders, "What is it?"Lylie responds, "Oh, come on. You should know why we're grinning. Ruby is hostile toward the two blonde sisters. I don't know why you're looking at me with such beady eyes, but I'm serious.Wylie yells, "Ruby, you're eighteen today! You've come of age!" when she realizes that her pal isn't understanding. With a tight smile on her face, Ruby adds, "Ohhh. Yeah, that's true. I'm really happy."Lylie leans across the table and asks, "Have you found him yet?"Wylie reprimands her twin: "Don't you think she would be here with him if she found him? First of all, do you even think she'd be here at all if she found him?"Ruby begs the two, "Can we order food first?" "I'm starving right here."The twins respond, "We're not the ones who advised you to leave your residence by 10 in the morning.Ruby gives the signal, and a waitress comes strutting over. She mutters to herself, "I hope this strutting lady doesn't make me angry."The waitress asks the ladies, "Good day, ladies. What can I get for you today?" with a smile on her face.Ruby thinks to herself, "It seems like she won't be so bad after all." Wylie says, "I'll have fries with ketchup."Lylie beats the table with her fingers. When food is involved, she has always been the one to take her time. Ruby notices Lylie is taking forever to place an order and pleads, "Please, just get me some peppered chicken."As she turns to face Lylie, the waitress asks, "Okay. What about you, Miss?"Lylie responds, "Oh yeah, I believe I'll have a chicken sandwich with a side of salad and some juice to go with it. Her tooth is raked by her nails. That, I believe, is all.Wylie and Ruby say "for now" for her. The three of them started laughing. To deliver their order, the waitress goes to the kitchen.Lylie says again, "So tell us, have you found him yet?" She is smiling mischievously.Wylie berates, "Can you keep quiet about this guy for once?" Ruby, who isn't paying any attention to the two of them, turns to face her.Lylie asks, "How come she's not excited?"Wylie yells, "Hey birthday girl!" catching her attention."Hmm?"Welcome to adulthood, first and foremost." Wylie begins with a big smile. Ruby laughs. How do you feel right now?Ruby nods. She casts a quick glance at the window next to the booth. To be completely honest, she says, "I don't know how I feel. I'm happy that I'm finally an adult, but it doesn't get past that."Lylie asks, "How is that possible?"You would have wanted them to be here to rejoice with you and offer you their blessing, Wylie observes. "You miss them, isn't it?"Diamond nods. She treasures her parents dearly, and losing her father was among the worst things that could have happened to her. She still misses him. Her heart just hurts more when she considers her mother. Her thinking tells her that "she could be anywhere out there."From across the table, Wylie grabs her friend's hand in her own. "It's okay, Ruby. It's okay to cry and to occasionally feel depressed, but don't forget that today is your birthday and that you deserve to be happy today.""I know. I saw their picture on my way out this morning," she admits. "You know, I don't think the rumors are true. I don't feel special today, and I don't feel different. I just feel like the same old Ruby."Lylie asks with a bewildered expression on her face, "You haven't had signs of finding your mate yet?" "Nope," I said, wondering when I would finally see my partner. Ruby is unsure of her cost. She will soon turn eighteen, but she hasn't yet found her soul partner. She is in great pain, which causes her to think differently. Suppose she is cursed. What if, despite being 18 years old, she was cursed by the moon goddess and was unable to find love? Her companion was staring at her so sadly, as she thought while glaring at her.You ought to be able to smell him the instant you leave your house, says Lylie, so that is odd.Ruby nods. She shrugged at her companion, who sighed and took a big breath. "Maybe I'm just different," she said. "Don't worry, Ruby; I have faith that your soul partner will turn up shortly. For someone who ordered the most food, Lylie is the first to finish eating. She wipes the corners of her mouth with a napkin and says, "Such a nice meal," satisfied. The other two just stare at her. For people who have been her sisters and friends for years, it still surprises them to see her eat the most and finish it all up in the blink of an eye. The waitress returns shortly with their orders, and the three girls briefly forget their conversation and dig."What's that? When Lylie detects their glares, she inquires. What do you know? Oh well," Wylie responds."Anyway, Ruby, darling, you don't have to feel depressed," her twin sneers. After all, the day is only getting started. The assurance in her voice makes her buddy grin as she continues, "Just give it time, and everything will fall into place."The three girls arrive on the street in a short while."Where should we go, in your opinion? Lylie enquires."I would have loved to go to work," Ruby responds."It's a Saturday," the twins utter in unison after exchanging strange glances with one another.I know that," Camila says, rolling her eyes. She responds, "I only wish it were a weekday so I could go to the library.Lylie joins their arms and pulls her in without warning. "Um, where are we going? Out from behind the two, Wylie asksWe're on our way to the park. Perhaps we can take action there," replies Lylie. Not a horrible thought, Wylie murmurs. Ruby grimaces and says, "Okay. Then, let's leave. It's mid-morning on a Saturday, so the park should be crowded, and it is. Families and friends had already come before the three girls got there."It looks like we'll have a lot of visitors today, says Lylie."We're here to have fun with the birthday girl, not talk to total strangers," Wylie scoffs, reminding her sister. But we three can't stay here by ourselves. More people are still required toAs a fight breaks out between the twins—those two are so different, it causes them to fight over the smallest things—Ruby blocks out their voices and chooses to observe the people in the park. There are about three families here, and they all seem to be getting along well. One family to the right even brought a birthday cake. "One of them must be celebrating today," she thinks to herself, wiping a tear from her cheek."I can see you're sad. Ruby turns to look around, but other than her quarreling companions, no one else is close to them. "But there's no reason to be," she overhears someone say.She muses, "Maybe I'm just hearing things."The voice says, "No, you're not," once again. After another perplexed glance around, Ruby decides not to ignore the situation and asks, "Who are you, and why do you sound so close, yet I can't see you?"You see, foolish, I'm inside of you. The voice replies, "I'm your wolf, and my name is Ava.
