Travis
“I need to punch something.”
I couldn’t stay up here swallowing down my most failure as a mate. No matter how bad I wanted to destroy this room and race down the road and bring Elizabeth back. I’m also an Alpha and we were just under attack. Which means I have a whole pack to take care of. And our mate just left heart broken. Left us, broken hearted. And it was all our fault.
“Gamma? Updates!” I asked, once I made it back on the fields. I see the fields had been clean up and there’s a pile of bodies ahead.
“Luna had indeed kill some of the intruders. And just a small few were kept alive. We placed them in holdings for now.” I nod my head watching the Deltas set the dead ones on fire.
“How many were pups compare to wolves?” I asked, knowing the answer already.
Gamma clear her throat. “We didn’t count but it did seem like most of the intruders were pups.” I clench my jaw, thinking of the parents who just lost their child today.
“That explains their fighting motive. They’re not as quick to attack.” I said.
Walking around the field with Gamma we talk with some Deltas to see what’s going on. We spend hours checking everyone. Making sure everyone is aware we are safe now. And the intruders have been taken care of. I had Deltas check the borders. There had to be a way they got in. So the Deltas sniff it out. Double checking to make sure we’re secure.
“Continue with work and keep me updated.” I tell them.
I was so glad no one got hurt. No one was killed from the attack. Some wolves and pups are a bit shaken up. But I inform them as best as I can that things are fine. I had them cancelled everything. Allowing everyone to have time to feel safe again.
Training is put on hold and the clinic is open longer for those who needed it. Some people just wanted someone to talk to, which is fine. Others got little cuts from running away from the attackers. My warriors had taken all the hits which made things good. Nothing too serious, just minor injuries. They all should be back to themselves in about two to three days. Wolves normally heal fast, just depends on how badly they are injured. The day was hard, over the line hard. Especially when I know everyone was afraid of dying.
Mason kept telling me Elizabeth would never and I should of known better than assume it. And he’s right. I should of known better. Elizabeth wasn’t the type of girl to just kill people. I didn’t even think she would kill if she had been put in the position. Honesty it wasn’t her fight to fight. But I should of know how much this place grew on her. I wanted it to be her home and it did. She did it out of instincts. She didn’t question herself or her plan. She thought it out and just did it. These were her people, her home to protect. I don’t know how I forget that.
“She put her life in danger for our pack. For our people.” Malcolm said.
“I know. And thinking back. It was f*****g Goddess like of her. God damn Goddess of her.” Malcolm wiggling his tail. “And we made her leave.”
Malcolm whining. “We didn’t make her leave. She just left us. But not forever!” He yelp.
“I hope not Malcolm. I really f*****g hope.”
It was all I can think about when I wasn’t working. Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Elizabeth. What made it worst! Is I can sense everything she felt. So I knew when she was in agony. And I hated that she was so far away and in pain. I wanted to hold her so bad, but then I get that stomach misery feeling. And I pick up my phone. Wanting to call her. Beg for her to come back. But that’s when the pain gets worse and I don’t want add to it.
“Who knows if she’ll even pick up my call?” I wouldn’t.
“She’s our mate. Space will be good and the sooner we call the sooner she will come home!”
The feeling of losing Elizabeth forever frightens me. I grew these feeling for her. Something I’ve never had before. And Malcolm too. But the the feeling to put her happiness and healing first was best. And from learning about her past. She does well on her own. We know she wouldn’t want us corrupting her healing process.
“Were give her time.” I said. “Mason will let us know anything.” Remembering they have school still. I trust Mason to look over our mate. He has been there for her even before she was our mate.
After some time. We had killed some of the men. Getting no answers from them. They assumed they known nothing. A bit of me believes them. “They were useless to keep around.” But another bit of me knows they knew enough and are just stupid.
We had held two wolves who were smart and can hold a punch. The others were just pups. No younger than 15. It was hard to make the decision. But I push their youth back, making the thought of them as pups to just wolves. Little mens who came to my home and wanted to hurt my people. My Family.
Some cried. Some begged for remorse or death. But what intrigued me the most was the one who never looked away. Held his knowledge but never his tongue. I let my anger come out during each beating. I enjoy every drip of bleed from him. Every connection my fist made. Releasing everything I was holding on to. It felt so good to let my demons out. Even Malcolm had a swing in it too. Even though the pain I felt didn’t surpass. This sure hell help. But then when it was time to end it all. I had to show what an Alpha must do. I took the short straw as always. And give them one last chance to give me what I wanted. With no answers, means no life. We took no mercy on them. But one of them was about to break, I can tell. So we kept him alive last.
“Is he ready Beta?” I ask before entering the room. Seeing if maybe without my presents will he crack more.
“Yes Alpha. He’s ready.”
I enter to see the man on his knees. Chain to the wall by his hands. He kept his head down. Being beaten for the last 3 days nows. Within those 3 days we gave him one of most cruelest act I can do. We have a small line of strong chemicals we made up for our holders. This one, we had a bucket of sulfur mustard that will burn through his skin. Not only will it make him uncomfortable with little splashes. A nice pour will have the smell of burning flesh hit your nose. A great number of blood seeps out as he holds his screams. The floor was stain red from his blood, a quick power wash will get it out though.
Hearing my footsteps he brought his head up to meet my eyes. My glowing wolf eyes. “Is this where you ask me if I want to die or betray my pack?” I held my head high and my face straight. “You want me beg for my life. You want me to crawl like a worm for you? Let you beat me, cut me up in pieces? Have your fun and then what! Huh! You’ll kill me either way! Because that’s who you are Alpha Travis! A MONSTER!” Using the little energy he had left to pull towards me.
“You’re right.” I chuckled. “I am a monster. I never made it out to not be one. I’m true to who I am. But can I say the same to you?” He let out a sinister smile. I had my way as I throw the last bit of sulfur mustard that works as an acid. It bubbles over the already peeling skin on his chest. His hiss of agony brings great pleasure to me.
“You thought we came here to kill you all. To hurt you the least. But you’re the ones who killed. You Alpha Travis. It was you who killed all those pups. You took them away from their loved ones. You are the reason why a mother is crying in front of her child’s grave. It’s because of you.” He laughed through the pain.
“No, not entirely me.” Walking towards the prisoner.
Bring my claws out in full length. I aggressively grab hold of his most painful mark on his neck. I grip tight ignoring the spike of chemical on my tips. I bring him close to look me dead in eyes. His head falls back and body jerked hard. I yelled for him to look at me. One Delta goes behind him. Yanking his head and forcing him to face me properly. I enjoy the look he gave as he fight it all. I did had to give it to him, he held up well. But that s**t won’t last. I’ll pour the next bucket over his head until I can see with my own eyes his heart stop beating through the hole within him chest I’d created.
“I’m not the only one to obtain those death. Yes they are dead on my ground. Yes it was me for say who killed them. Who made the call to take their lives and more. But we both know it is more on someone else’s hand, am I right?” I asked him. Seeing his face change, he thought out my words. “Yeah, exactly.” I walked off the platform and waited until he spoked.
“Should we just kill him Alpha?” Gamma asked.
“Just wait.” I whispered. I can tell he was thinking hard. Long and hard.
His eyes shifted to the ground as he panted for dear air. He must know by now he is left with one last move. His silence won’t get him out. It will only bring forth his death. And glory will I enjoy it just as much as the others. And his harlot Luna will think before allowing these unskilled boys and men to step foot in a place of mine.
I continue to wait for him to spoke. In seconds his eyes made it back up. I see the defeat in his eyes. “I have no one back home. It has been lonely since my mate dyed.” Making a glare at Gamma. She was the only woman in the room. She didn’t react, no one did. But his look told me what kind of man he was. It made me sick!
“The man is about to crack.” Malcolm growled.
“That’s why I took this assignment.” Coughing loudly from the blood caught in his throat.
“Give him some water.” I demand. A Delta close by gave the man a small sip.
Seeing if it clears his throat to give us more details. “Am I the last man standing Alpha?” I nod to him.
“Will asylum be up for me? Going back alone was never an option unless successful. Luna is a very cruel woman. She will kill me for not following her orders.” I see his eyes, he means the truth. “You do not know what awful, cruel intentions she has. There is no pleasing that woman. She does not take no for an answer.” I smirk at him, thinking Syline is harmless. “So I ask you again Alpha. Is asylum an option?”
This question wasn’t hard. It was one of the easiest one. “It can be.” He dropped his head in defeat. Spitting out the blood in his mouth. “What was Luna Syline’s intentions? What are we expecting from her?” I asked.
Keeping his head down. Unable to bring it up again. “Alpha, I do not know much. I was not in Luna’s high ranks of that knowledge.” He said. He was breathing heavily now. His voice rasps.
“What can you tell me?” Making it easier for him.
“Luna said to come here and scare you. She wanted you, Alpha. She wants you to be aware that she can get under your skin. That she can make things end for you. She has power and she wants you to be aware.” I asked for more. “I do not know more. But I heard of there being alliance. That’s why we were order to not kill but only hurt if needed.”
“If she thinks this was going to scare us to sign a treaty. Jokes on her. That’s off tables!” I agree with Malcolm.
“Is that truly all you know? Nothing else you’re withhold?” Nodding his head. And everyone waits around for my next order. “Okay then.” Walking back up. I lift his head to meet his eyes. And he looks back at me with pleading eyes.
I look him deep in his gaze. And he does the same. Waiting for his asylum. “I will give you peace.” I said. And the man thank me.
Walking away, I made my call. “Kill him.” I ordered.
“Alpha NO! Asylum Alpha! Asylum!” He begged.
Before walking out the doors. I hear the cracking in his bones that brought out from a metal chain that we use to ring around the prisoners neck. Yanking him up the ceiling or by our own pull we break. The man’s screams imploded through the walls. Soon ending with silences. That silence fill the void.
“There is no asylum.” I said to myself. “Can’t have a traitor among us.” Malcolm howls.
Now after this little act. I’m very much aware of how Syline works. How deep in the dirt she plays in. None of father’s words gave knowledge. But this did. This only sets herself back from what she’ll never be getting.
Walking back to the main house. A few wolves race towards me with concern. It completely thrown Malcolm and I off guard. “Alpha, Alpha? Can we help in anyway?” What no. This wasn’t their concern. Besides, they’re all died. There’s nothing left to fixated about.
“You have nothing to be worry about. The perimeters have been clear. And we are on double shifts for all your safety.” They looked at me confuse. Like that wasn’t their question.
“No Alpha. We were taking about Luna’s search.” Search? What search?
“I’m sorry? What are you talking about?” Did something happen to Elizabeth? Why haven’t I been notified right away!
“Just hold your s**t! It might be something else.” Malcolm said.
“Luna’s disappearance Alpha.” DISAPPEARANCE?!
“Who said that?” Trying to keep my cool.
They looked at each other and with clearing throats they answer. “Well, everyone has.” WHAT!
“We all saw Beta take Luna somewhere and she never return after the attack. It has been days now. We all have been worried for you and her. Everyone has been waiting for you to sent out a search party.”
Oh God. I had everything all wrong. I never made anything clear for anyone about anything. I let out a big sigh and smile. My soul warm at the concern and motived my people have over my mate and their future Luna.
“No search party is needed. Luna is fine, she has been taking some time to be with her family.” They gasp in joy. “So no need to worry your hearts. Luna will be back home soon.” I said. Hoping it’s not a lie.
“That’s great news. Thank you Alpha.” They bow and ran off. Seeing them muttering the news to everyone they came by.
“Malcolm? Have we been blinded with duties? Have we been so unaware of everyones concern?” I asked.
“We were too focus on one without realizing there was another.” He responded.
“I should of knew better. About everything and everyone.” Malcolm whines and looked up. “Elizabeth never had to leave. We never had to break our hearts. And everyone didn’t need to have this concern on them after the attack.” I felt like I was failing in life right now.
“We did this. All of it.” Malcolm said.
I met up with a Delta outside. He had some men checking the borders to make sure everything was clear. No blind spots to allow trespassers to come in again.
“Should we look for Luna now Alpha?” I glare at him in shock. “Everyone has been preoccupied about her absents. Some thinks she was taken? Should we look outside the grounds now?”
Everyone has been worried. Was I a bad Alpha and mate? I haven’t communicated with either, properly. “We had already search our land Alpha. Her tracks doesn’t go far beyond the clinic? Where should we start?” He adds.
I place a hand on his shoulders. “No where Delta.” His head snapped quick.
“Alpha but Luna..” I cut him off to explain.
“Luna is not missing or anything. She is safe with family. Beta has been watching her off grounds. He would of said anything if something was wrong.” We would also feel something. At least something not pain. Malcolm whines in memory. “ I had explain this to a few ladies wolves. So please Delta. I know everyone must be concern. Advise them all that Luna is fine and will return soon.” He nods and attains to his duties.
“When was the last time we ask Mason about Elizabeth?” Malcolm asked.
“I don’t think we have.” We have been so busy with distracting ourself. We wanted to give her space. And doing so, we forgot to check in.
“f**k I feel like an asshole. With everything man. What kind of Alpha and mate am I!” Everything was becoming too much.
“Why don’t we find Beta and ask. Maybe he can enlighten us on her. Maybe it’s time we call.” Jumping up in excitement.
“It is time for her to come home. It hasn’t been the same without her.” And it hasn’t only been us. Everyone in the pack felt the same. We all miss her presents.
“Beta where are you?” Through mind-link.
“Heading up stairs Alpha? The Deltas are almost done cleaning up the mess right now.” He was still down in the basement.
“Meet me outside please.” Eager to know how Elizabeth is doing.
“Yes sir.” Closed mind-link.
Didn’t take long before Beta found me. I was just by the entrance, sitting at the bench by the fountain. Thinking about her at night. Sitting by her, watching the moon shine while I hold her tight. Secretly smelling her hair like a weirdo.
“Alpha?” Beta marching up. As I get lost in my thoughts.
“Beta I need Elizabeth’s updates. How is she?” He gave me an odd look. “BETA!” Malcolm flaring his eyes at him.
“I don’t know sir. I thought you might of heard something from her by now.” He said with an annoying muzzy look.
“Ohh for f**k sakes! What the hell Mason!!” Malcolm growl.
I scratched my head trying not to yell. I don’t want anyone to see me angry right now. “No Beta. I left her in your care. How has she been acting in school.” Again with the stupid look.
“I haven’t seen her. She never showed up since I drop her off at work that day.” I clench my fist. Holding back from punching him.
“And you’re just now telling me this!” My canines displayed fully now.
Beta stood tall. “I assumed you two had talked.”
I stepped away trying to think clearly. Trying to stay cool. “Has anyone seen or talked to her!” I said in almost a whisper.
“I’m not sure Alpha.” God damn it Mason!
“Get the f*****g car Beta!” Without questions he ran to get the keys and we drove up town to find her. I can’t fathom with the idiocy right now. Yet i’m a hypocrite.
“No answer! No one is picking up their phones.”
I sped down the road. Mason had call Elizabeth’s phone serval times and she didn’t pick up. So we called her sister, and her parents. No one picked up.
“Connie hasn’t seen her?” I asked.
“No, she even asked if Liv was sick? But I told her Liv was fine when she came back. We assumed she was just home.”
Making a sharp turn, I check to see if maybe she was at work first. It made sense for why she wasn’t answering her phone. She never keeps it on her. I park out front and stomped inside. Looking for someone.
“Excuse me? Can I help you?” A short old lady ask me.
“Yes, umm I’m looking for Elizabeth. Is she working today?” Again with people giving me confusing ass looks. What the f**k is with today!
“Liv?” She asked.
“Yes Liv? Is she in the back? I need to talk to her.” I said, hoping she’s here.
The woman shook her head. “No dear. I’m sorry she’s not. Her last shift isn’t until this weekend.” f**k!
Wait. What? “Last shift? What do you mean?”
The lady smile at me. “I remember you. She told me on the phone when she sent in her week notice. I’m so happy for you two.” She quit her job. “When was this? Wasn’t she just here working a few days ago?”
She thought to herself for a second. She was a sweet old lady. I remember her too. She was very kind and loved to talk. “Umm, she quit just a week ago. She has one day left here. And she was last here at, umm. Ohh 5 days ago. Management didn’t give her many days since she asked.” Why didn’t she tell me?! Why did Mason lie about dropping her off at work? What the bombshell f**k man!
I nod in a thanks. “Okay, thank you so much.” The lady smile and waved goodbye.
“Was she there?” Mason asked, once I got back in the car.
“She hasn’t been to work in days.” I grabbed his collar ready to kill him. He tried peeling me off but failed.
“Where did you take her MASON!” My rage was coming out. Ready to rip out his throat.
“Here! I dropped her off here! I swear!” Letting him go. I can tell he wasn’t lying. He never lies. Thankfully.
“Let’s go then.” Driving back down the road. We tried her parents cells one more time. NOTHING.
“She probably told everyone to not answer to us. Or Mason. She doesn’t want us anymore.” I drove faster, ignoring Malcolm.
Making a hard stop in front of Elizabeth’s house. My mind race with millions of thoughts. My heart raced with fear. “What the f**k happen?” I yelled.
We got out to smell her scent. Ignoring the fact that my heart has just sank to the ground. We sniffed all over to see if her smell was mix in the fire. Or if we can smell her last present here. “Her fresh scent stops by the stairs.” Meaning she wasn’t in the fire.
“You didn’t sense anything?” Mason asked me in a panic.
“Kinda but I thought it was over our fight.”
Worst mate award goes to ME.
I grab my phone and tried calling her myself. She ignore me right away. “Where else could she’ve be Mason?”
Feeling helpless right now. Mason took a minute before his brain worked up. “Get in the car. I’ll drive!” I had no time to asked so I listen.
“Try her one more time. And sent her a text from my phone!” I call and again she ignores me. Sending a text, hoping she at least reads it.
“She’s alive Travis. Our mate is alive.” Malcolm said.
“I know but. She needed us and we won’t there.” The guilt swung in.
“We didn’t know.” He said.
“She felt like she couldn’t even call us Malcolm. Why didn’t she call? Where has she been this whole time?”
My sanity was going mad. Over the anger, the guilt, and everything. I hated how bad things gotten between us. It was so bad, that our mate couldn’t even call in time of trouble. She couldn’t even tell Mason. Who knows what’s going on with her right now.
“She alone in pain.” And we didn’t checked in on her.
