Mason
It took some hair pulling and insults to get Liv out of bed. She was determine to soak herself all day in my king size bed. Eat junk food and fart it all up. But I was not about to let her drown herself in her sorrows. Not when it all can be fix. After some time and her hogging my bathroom by taking the most longest shower in the motherfucking world. Miss Luna over here was finally ready to head out for our fun day.
“Come on. Stop dragging your heels Luna.”
“Oliver can you please tell Mason to stop calling me that. That will never be my name. Not after last night.” I hear the sadness in her voice.
We took a nice drive out into town. Making our way to a very old place. One very special to us. One that we both will always cherish. It was part 2 of my plan. Part one was to get her out the pack house and play some old music mix with her most favorite ones. Ease her into a happy mood to start out the day.
Coming up. I park out in the back parking lot. Completely empty. I park up at a shady tree. Liv hardly look out the widow to see where we are. “Where the hell did you take me?” She asked in her sassy tone.
Turning off the car I glare at her. “That hurts. Out of all places. I would think you would remember this one.”
“Why here?”
I begin to get out the car. “It all started here you purple cat lover.”
Before she said anything. She gets out the car. Slamming my car door. I hold in that small urge to yell at her. But then her eyes widen out. Mouth tighten up before a smile appeared.
“Creek Side Elementary.” She whispers.
I smile as her face slowly begins to remember this place. I turn and started to walk towards the school. Liv notice after a few seconds and ran to catch up with me. Shouting for me to wait for her.
Walking by the left side of the school you are met up by an empty field that has a large playground. Walking through the wall brick side. There is a gate. It is always unlock. Opening it up, we walk into a second playground. More smaller than the first. The large one was for the bigger kids to play on. While this one were for the smaller kids. It had smaller equipments for tiny humans. Making sure they can minimus their injuries. At times. Some of the big kids would sneak into the smaller playground. The teachers wouldn’t notice when both classes were out for recess. Honesty, I don’t think they pay much attention to us unless we go up to them or start screaming in pain.
Back then. The smaller playground was the best one. It was where I meet the most beautiful girl in the world. And by the end of recess. She was my best friend. And over time. I realize she was my sister. She was in my life before Oliver was. So when I needed someone for anything. It was Liv. And still is. It’s just.. now that we are older the roles has switch. She needed me rather me needing her.
“Mason?”
I ignore her until we made it to the spot. Passing by the multi type of seesaw’s, the swings, the tire swings. Monkey bars and all the other average equipments they have here. But our spot was by the pit of sand, rock log, and border wall. There was two climbers. The usual one that has all open gasps. Looking like a doom of color sticks for kids to climb and sit on top. But that’s not the one we used to hide in. We would hide inside the climber with the three tunnels. One small, two large ones. We would go inside the large tunnel with open windows. Each window will be different size for each child to climb or look through it. Back then, no one hardly played in this one. And it became mine and Liv’s spot.
Once we made it. I got to my hands and knees and sat outside the tunnels wall. There was no way either of us were gonna fit inside now. And we won’t be trying.
“Oliver?”
“Just sit the f**k down Liv.” Patting the ground. She huff air but did as I say.
“What are we doing here Mason? Don’t tell me you got some girl pregnant?” She gasped.
My head snap. “Ohh f**k no! Hell no. Don’t even joke like that.” I sent a prayer out begging Moon Goddess I never get a girl pregnant unless they are my mate.
“So why on Earth did you bring me back here?” She says as she tries to get comfortable.
“Because it was the day we met. Remember?” She looked at me puzzle. And tries to remember the day. Once I see her smile. I knew the memory popes up.
“Yeah I remember. You were hurt and crying. You hide under here because you didn’t want to go to the nurse. You even pointed out my shirt that had a purple cat on it.”
“I thought she was gonna give me a shot. And you wore that shirt all the time.” I replied.
“Haha. Yeah. That was a good day. That’s when you became my first and only friend when I moved here.” It was good to hear he laugh again. It open up a spot in our plan.
“You healed me Liv. At such a young age. You helped a lil pup you didn’t know. And from there on. That pup stayed loyal to you. He did everything and anything for you.” I poked her side making her laugh more.
“Still the only pup.” Her eyes narrow down. And I saw her mood dropping.
“Things were good back then. All my most happiest memories were because of you. I can’t even think of a life without you.” She hums to me. “And when Oliver came into my life. You were the first of anyone that I told. And after I shifted the first time. It was you I wanted to show.” It was always her. Now as I say it. I get why people always assumes we’re together or have hidden feelings. But she’s just my best friend.
“Yeah. Good times. All really good times. We were young and happy then. But now we’re grown up. Life is different now Mason.” She started playing with the ground. Tossing the tuff around.
I grab her arms. She didn’t look to me. And I see sheMs still complexing about her and Travis. It was a tough fight for them. “Life is still good. A lot has happen. Whether it’s good or bad. I’m glad to still be a part of them with you. And when my time comes. You will still be the person I go to first.”
She mutter something under her breath. But I couldn’t make it out. “You deserve that Mason. At least you do.”
“And so do you. You and Travis do. You guys are right there. So why are you letting go? Why can’t you just believe that this is the real thing.” I see her about to open her mouth but I stop her. “He was trying so hard. Harder than proving his father. So what’s making you think twice about being mates? Why can’t you let him love you?”
She look up to me. Her eyes are glaze over with dark circles. I heard her crying all night about her fight. Oliver wanted to get up and comfort her. But something told us we won’t the one that needed to comfort her. She needed Travis. Only a mates touch can ease this kind of pain.
“You have known me for years. You should know why.” I tilt my head. Consulting with Oliver. She started to pick at the tuff again. Making circles in the dirt underneath it. “Everyone leaves. My own blood left me. I tried my hardest then. I tried my hardest after. Every damn time. I always got the same results.”
She scoff in a chuckle. And my heart ache from her pain. “Travis may be my given mate. It won’t make a different. He will leave just like everyone else. Love or no love.”
“We’re still here. Connie, your parents.” Scouting closer to her, I continue watching her draw in the dirt.
“And I hope I never have to lost any of you.” She looks up with questionable eyes. “No more Mason. I can’t anymore.” Not wanting to talk about Travis.
We spend a few minutes here. Talking about old times as a kid. I thought this would brighten up her mood a bit. But she still didn’t budge as I thought she would.
“Maybe our next plan will.” Oliver claim. And I hope it does.
Watching her get lost in her feelings. I kept thinking that all of this could of been prevented if these two just listen instead of being so God damn stubborn. Travis can’t control his anger specially when he feels like he is failing in something he’s giving his all in. Liv self sabotage herself for protection. Bad. Bad. Bad.
As we walk through memory lane. I had one last idea for here to put her out of autopilot. It’s something we use to do all the time at recess. Liv won most times. And I have a good feeling this will bring her out her mood.
“Hey Liv.”
“What?” She giggle.
“I won!” Pushing her as she stumbler over.
I hear her cruse under her breath as she race to catch up with me. We begin as we climb over the climber, steady over the beam. Next we race to climb the ladder to the rings. Making sure you don’t fall. If you fail you need to go back and start again. After that we jump the tires in the ground. Making it to the swings. Get high enough for you to jump and then go to the play-set and walk the spring steps. Get to the gate and run around it three times. And the first one to get to the orange spin cup wins.
Racing through the jungle we giggle our way through. Making to the gate we both push and shove our way around. Third tap, we both took off to the other side and headed towards the orange spin cup. You need to sit in it to win. Getting close we use a small boost of our wolf speed. Just enough to head off. I jump and hit my ass hard on the damn thing. Meaning I won.
“No fair! You cheated!” She panted.
I try sitting up from the cup. “Nah huh.”
“Yeah you did.”
“I’m just faster that’s all.” I panted with a smirk. She rolls her eyes as she doesn’t believe us. Beside I hardly cheated. No rules said I couldn’t use my wolf speed. “Come on let go eat and then head back home.”
“You cheated so you pay.” Frowning hard at us. I agree and we headed out.
From the time we left the school to the food place and back home. Liv’s mood was just coming out. Each time we get quiet. I see her going back into that fog. Her mind was her enemy right now. So I’m hoping by my next plan she will be more ready to open up and want to try again with Travis.
“Whether they know it or not. They’re the damn same.” Oliver howl.
“Which makes them the perfect couple.”
“We see how good they are. They change each other. They never been so happy.” Which is the best part of all of this.
“They just need a little push.” They needed faith and love. From each other.
We parked the car and Liv asked what’s next. I look around and nudge my head towards the woods. Her eyes lit up with a shine in them. And she excitedly walk with us towards the destination. Far enough in. Oliver shifted. Purring at Liv to hop on his back.
“Take it slow. It’s been a while.” We nudge our neck down. Having her throw her leg over and saddle on our back. She grips our grey fur. And we push from our hind legs. Just a small jog around until we find a perfect spot to chill at.
“And what’s here for?” She asked.
Making a stop in a circle of thick trees. I slowly get down on all four legs. Liv gets off gracefully. Fixing her clothes. She turns around to inspect our surroundings. While I shift back into my human form. I quickly redress.
“It’s for you.” Turning to look confuse at me. “Whatever you need to do here. Who ever you need. You want me to hold your hand so you can channel me, okay. If you want to pet Oliver’s fur to ease your emotions, okay. You need a ear to listen to the words you need to let out, okay. You need a pair of arms to compress the pain, okay. You need to feel another person next to you to feel better, okay. Anything you need. Do it here. Do it under the shield of Moon Goddess’s nature.”
Her face froze and her eyes dance around. “It’s like what you told me growing up.” She whispers. “Nothing feels better than to say the words out loud. Even if you can’t fix the problem. Saying it out loud helps.”
“It’s not good to ball it all up. So go on. Do what you feel is best.” Staring at us. She comes in for an embrace. And we reach out to wrap our arms around her. Squeezing her tight.
“Just don’t leave me. Not you.” Pulling back I assure her we would never. I’ll have to die first. Even than she says to not leave. With my line of work. I only wish to stay with her for as long as Moon Goddess allows. I can’t be a part of my sister’s hurt.
Liv walks out into the center of all the trees. Moving her feet from the ground. She makes her spot. She faces out. And lays her hand out in 25 degree angle. Her palms facing her view. Her fingers twitch. And slowly the wind picks up. Leaves and sticks with other debris begin to fly around. You hear birds chirping away from the gust. Which soon dies out. Her hands reaches higher and you can now see the wind pool circling her. She became the eye.
Little flashes of light flickers here and there. And clouds clutter together. The sun slowly hiding behind them. Liv stays put and everything enhances more. We watch as she puts her all in it. A light sparkle of rain falls to the ground. Soon after it all started to fade away. And the sound of nature comes back. I waited until the whirlpool is no more and her hands have drop. Her native given weapons are a danger. I would not want to be caught in that.
I can hear her breathing speeding from here. She call out to Oliver. And again he switches for her. As she calls for comfort. He sprints for his own needs. He nuzzle his nose against her cheek. Patting his head. She whispers sweet words to him making him purr for her. Licking up all her tears. She instructed him to lay down. He drops and the ground shakes.
“It’s not for belly rubs” She giggles to his whining.
He lays flat on his belly. Pushing his head out. She uses her sharp nails to comb through his fur. And begins to brush through our white hairs. They begin to start up as once I became Beta. So now they blended in the grey. She first made fun of us. But now says its beautiful highlights gives us a nicer coat.
She kept her hand on us durning her breaks. In her peak of magic blurted out. Her hands did wonders for our eyes. Light, water, air, fire.. she did it all with just her wrist. After a few minutes. We lay by her side. Oliver damn near sleeping as Liv started to practice her magic. You see her smile coming out and staying out. When she needs to channel us. She ask for our paw. Us eager. We gave her both fronts.
Seeing her, I never understand why she would be so hard on herself. I have never seen a witch do the things she has done. She was perfect with her skills. But no matter what we say. It didn’t matter. Nothing anyone said mattered. Her mother growing up broke her mind set. Her Ancestors looked down on her. She didn’t believe she was ever good enough.
Once she finally calms down she wipes her hands and lays down on the cold ground. I quickly switch back and lay with her. Turning our head to face each other. We smile and stare up at the sky. At this moment. The sky is clear with no clouds. Only to see Moon Goddess has made her special appearance for her. I want to believe she is here for Liv.
“You ready to talk now?” I hear her heart settling back. After realizing all her bad energy away. That feeling of need was gone.
“How do I even start?” She breaths out.
“From the beginning.” She looked down to see me grabbing her hand. She closed her eyes before speaking.
“It’s everything Mason. Every bad and good moment. It’s the reality of it all. Either it is just the bond or not. How can I trust any of it. How can I just fall back into someone and believe that there are rainbows and unicorn at the end of it.”
“Go on.” Telling her to continue. She shakes her head. Not wanting to say the words. Staying silence I gave her a minute. “It’s new and different. That scares you? Doesn’t it?”
Her eyes open up with twisted lips. She nods to me. “He acts like weren’t different.”
I chuckle a little. “You’re mates. Your souls find each other to be one. You’re not so different. You are unique and he is too. But you two are good for each other. It’s gonna be a challenge yes. He’s an Alpha and you are a free spirit witch. Yet that doesn’t mean anything.”
“It means everything. What life can I offer him? Who says I won’t just ruin his life and at some point it will click in his head that he should of walked off that day and stay away. Who says?” She asked me.
“You do. He does.” Truthfully.
She huff in anger and got up to bring her knees to her chest. Grass all in her hair. “Travis just started to feel like.. they felt..” She throw her hands over her face. Clearing her tears.
I got up quick. Oliver growling in my ears. “If you’re gonna say it’s anything like how it was with Flinn you’re wrong. That asshole took you for granted.”
“No Mason. Not like Flinn. I loved Flinn and all. But Travis and Malcolm started to feel more than Flinn. Better. They started to feel like my home. Someone I was missing and I needed that.”
“Is that so bad?” I asked her. She is finally coming clean about how she feels. This was good.
“They can’t be my home. It’s too much to put on them. I don’t want to add more on him.”
Her eyes watered up. And I started to take the grass out her hair. “But this is good. He needs this, you need this. The both of you want this. Liv just trust him. If not the bond, trust Travis and Malcolm. Trust them.”
“Trust has never gotten me anywhere. And if this is just the bond..”
“It’s not. The bond enhances your feels more.” It brings them closer.
“Then what if his is just the bond. Mine is real and his isn’t. I can’t keep this up if none of this is real.” I hit her arm and she yells in pain. “Mason!”
“Liv you need to go back into the house and up to your room. Face your mate. Talk to your f*****g mate and tell him how you feel.” Oliver barks nonstop. Wanting to tell her to stop being a damn chicken.
“He doesn’t want to talk to me little long see me.” Rubbing her arm.
I stood up. Demanding her to get off her ass. She argues and I yank her by the arm. Forcing her off the ground. “Liv the bond doesn’t work like that. If you are having this much of an attraction for Travis. Then it’s real.” She opens her mouth to argue back but I stop her. “Travis has feelings. Real feelings. It is not just the bond.”
“Mason just stop!” And my mouth closed. My eyes flick as Oliver frown his anger at her. “It’s too much. We’re practically over.”
“Okay now you stop.” He snarl at her.
“Oliver for real.”
“No you for real. Forget about the bond. Forget about everyone and what the past history has to foretell about you guys. Just try and you’ll see the truth. You two are falling for each other. And it’s scary I get it but you can’t let it keep you from being happy. He makes you happy, doesn’t he?” I shouted. Making her listen.
“They do.” She chuckle. “From the begin they make me so happy. And I get that flutter feeling. And when my stomach and head collide. I feel it in my heart. And then that’s when it all goes away.”
“He’s your happiness. And your his. That’s all that matters. Give it try.”
She softly shakes her head, still fighting. “Can’t I just stay with you?”
I scowl at her. “You can’t hold up in my room waiting until some magic rejection will happen. Cause it won’t.”
“If he rejects me then.. I can’t. Can I just save us from all the bad? We’re already hurting by staying together.” I use my sleeve to wipe her tears off her face.
“Go to him. He won’t. And if you need me. I’m here.”
“What if he..”
“He won’t.” I said firmly. “Haven’t I always told you the truth.” Cupping her face.
“Yes.” She smiles.
“So what do you say? Will you give love another try. Real love? Or will you let old love keep you from this new one?” I asked. Hoping she doesn’t run and hid again.
“I’ll hold you up to it if he does reject me and i’m standing in front of you heart broken again.” Giving us that Liv look.
I pull Liv in for a hug. Whispering in her ear. “I’ll always be here for you. Let yourself be happy. Please.”
She hugs me back and I feel her nodding her head. Agreeing to stay at the pack house and returning back to her mate. Giving each others bond another try. A real one this time.
