Episode 1
The Zoom call connected, and the screen filled with the familiar faces of Zama, Siya, Kiya, and Naledi. Women who have been best friends since college, and Zama, Siya and Kiya all accomplished doctors who have built successful careers. Although Naledi is a qualified physician, she married a billionaire who wanted her to stay home and manage herself and the kids.
Their laughter erupted almost instantly—it was always this way, a cascade of joy that bridged the miles between them.
Zama adjusted her scarf, leaning into the camera. “Okay, let’s get started before Naledi gets distracted by her latest shopping haul,” she teased, earning a playful eye-roll from Naledi, who was indeed rearranging a pair of Christian Louboutin heels behind her.
“I’m here!Focused and ready!” Naledi said, raising a glass of white wine. “Unlike some people, I’m on my break.”
Kiya snorted, taking a sip of tea. “Break from what? You’ve never worked a day in your life.”
Naledi gasped theatrically, her hand to her chest. “Excuse me! Do you know how exhausting it is managing my YouTube empire? My subscribers demand luxury and laughs—two things I deliver flawlessly. Thank you.”
“Speaking of delivering,” Siya cut in, glancing over her shoulder as the sound of her son’s laughter echoed in the background. “Someone here is officially potty-trained!” Her smile radiated pride. “And yes, I’m accepting congratulations and gifts.”
“Wow, Siya, you’re raising geniuses while I’m still figuring out how to keep plants alive,” Kiya quipped, shaking her head. Oh, and I finally said yes to mentoring some residents. Pray for me.”
“You’ll be amazing,” Zama reassured her, then leaned closer to the camera, her tone shifting. But listen, I have news. You’re going to want to sit down for this.”
The chatter quieted as they leaned in, their curiosity piqued.
“One of my patients—Sam— beat stage four cancer. A miracle, honestly. To thank me for being with her through it all, she gifted me her private Airbnb on Réunion Island. For the summer. And here’s the best part—I’m inviting all of you. Bring your husbands, let’s turn it into the trip of a lifetime.”
There was a beat of silence, then chaos. Naledi nearly spilled her wine, Siya clapped her hands together, and Kiya’s voice rose above the rest. “Zama, are you serious? Réunion? That’s like… paradise.”
“As serious as a heart attack,” Zama said, grinning. “We’ve been through so much together—it’s time for some sun, ocean, and ridiculous cocktails.”
“I’m in,” Siya said without hesitation, “assuming I can convince my husband to take time off.”
“Same here!” Kiya added. “I’ll even buy a bikini for the first time in years.”
Naledi, of course, leaned back with a satisfied smirk. “I was born for this. Just tell me how to book the yacht.”
Their laughter filled the virtual space, a reminder of the bond that had carried them through college, careers, marriages, and every twist of life. And now, they had a new adventure to share—Réunion Island awaited.
