Playing With The Boss

The local pub my neighbor suggested was less than a block from my new apartment. It wasn’t a large place, cozy. I could definitely see me meeting friends here after work for a drink. It wasn’t crowded, and I picked a seat at the bar since I wasn’t meeting anyone. “What you drinking?” The bar tender was a middle age man who fit the decor and feel of the place perfectly. “Beer fries and and a light beer.” I said glancing at what was on tap. “You’re new around here.” He said, placing the ice cold drink on the little cardboard coaster in front of me. “That obvious?” I laughed taking a long sip of my beer. “I know my clients” he was friendly enough. “Name is Bill.” He said by way of introduction. “Kate.” I ate my beer cheese fries and enjoyed the people watching. It was obvious that most of the people here tonight were regulars. Average working people enjoying drinks with friends. “You new?” I heard a man ask, and turned to see a very attractive man taking the seat next to me. He really made jeans and a tee look hot. “You don’t mind if I sit here?” He asked when I couldn’t make my brain and mouth connect to form an answer. “Yes. New I mean.” I finally managed to say. You know when you see a guy on television or in media and think there is some CGI going on cause no one is that hot in real life. Well this is that guy. Just randomly in a bar like a normal person. “The usual Seth?” Bill asked, setting a glass down in front of him. Whisky. “Thanks.” He replied, he had a slight accent, but I couldn’t place it. “Don’t worry hun, he doesn’t bite…much.” Bill laughed and I smiled. “Only on Monday’s.” He laughed and took a sip of his drink. “Must be an interesting work environment.” I said, trying not to hyperventilate. “So how does an attractive woman like you end up drinking alone?” He asked, and I could feel my cheeks heat under his stare. “I’m not alone, I’ve got Bill. And now you.” I teased back. “What do you do?” Seth asked. Completely normal question. “I’m a personal assistant. It’s not what I went to college for, but I actually like it.” I said, thinking fondly of the job I just landed. Seth looked at me surprised. “Really? Seems like you would be a slave to some rich guy.” He laughed. “No. My last job I got to travel, meet interesting people. It’s not easy, but I’m young and single so I enjoy it.” Miranda Carmichael has been an amazing opportunity. I loved working for her. She sent my information to a dozen contacts. She was relocating to London and with my mom sick, there was no way I could go. I got to go to the White House and meet the president. This new job I hoped would open up more opportunities like that. “What about you?” I asked, not wanting to tell this guy my entire life story. “I’m definitely in need of a personal assistant.” He laughed and I couldn’t help touching his arm. s**t was that too forward. “Have dinner with me tomorrow Kate.” He said suddenly, his tone serious. “Sure. Just so you know it better be on par with the White House.” I teased and she actually found it amusing. “Definitely not. You had dinner at the white house?.” He replied. “I know this local dive with the best seafood. A five star chef couldn’t touch this place.” “Well then how can I say no?” Of course I couldn’t say no, I would have to be dumb. Seth agreed to meet me in front of the pub. Hey, I’m a single girl new to the area, I’m not dumb. Well maybe. I’m going to an unknown location with him. “Hey.” Seth called hurrying down the sidewalk. “Sorry got tied up with something.” He was just as casual as the night before. Jeans and a tee, his shirt stretched over his muscles not hiding anything. Damn. I on the other hand felt a little over dressed. He said dive, but I still put on a cute little sundress. “You look beautiful by the way.” Seth said taking my hand in his. He didn’t seem like the big fancy SUV type, but here we are standing in front of his black car. Some guys like to spend money on their cars I guess. Made me wonder where he lived, I quickly pushed that thought down. Seth drove away from the downtown area to the coast. Well he did promise me a dive and this place was more of a shack with outdoor seating picnic table style. “Trust me, best seafood around.” Seth said, opening my door and assisting me out of his SUV. “Do I look like the judgemental type?” “No.” His tone was oddly serious. “Seth!” A young guy said coming out to greet us. Damn if he wasn’t just as hot. Do sexy guys only know other attractive people? “Jax. This is Kate.” Seth said introducing me. We shook hands. “Welcome to my place. I have to say when my brother called me, well I’m not normally his go to for first dates.” He teased, giving his brother a knowing look. “Oh?” I said, shocked that these two were related. But now I could see it. Good genetics. “No, he normally brings home the type you have to wine and dine if you know what I mean.” Jax said with a wink. “‘I’ve don’t the wine and dine vube?” My tone was serious as I pretended to be hurt, but Jax laughed. “I like her already.” He winked at his brother and headed back to the kitchen. “You know I’m never gonna live this down right?” “Why?” I said taking my seat awkwardly in a dress. “ I’ve never brought a date here.” He admitted. “I don’t know if that is cause you really like me or don’t want to be seen with me.” I said sarcastically glancing around conspicuously. Seth was laughing at my show. Jax didn’t even let us order, he sent out one chef special after another to try. “Your brother is amazing… I might go home with him and just get fat.” I laughed. Partially serious. “His wife might have a problem with that, but I’m glad you like it.” Seth paused for a moment. “You could always come home with me.” He said, almost sounding a little shy. “But can I expect the same level of service.” I teased, my hand motioning to the food we just consumed. Seth’s eyes shot to mine. Oh s**t he was serious. “Get the check.” I said. “No need.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. “I guess he can bill you” I laughed following him. “Kate.” He said his tone a whisper. “Just so you know I’ve never done this before. Went home with a guy on a first date.” I admitted looking down, embarrassed to be doing it now. But he was sexy, funny, and had good taste in food. Seth’s phone buzzed and he cussed, “extortionist” “What?” I said confused. “Oh he wants double or he is telling mom.” He laughed and pulled me to him. “Oh you better pay up.” I said, and put my arms around him. “Worth it.” And with that his lips were pressed against mine. Warm and sweet. I was instantly wet.
