By the time they traveled together to the airport, caught their connecting flight to New York, then on to Beijing, from Beijing to Xi’an, and finally arrived at their motel, it had been a very, very long day. The longest flight had been New York to Beijing, thirteen and a half hours, but the other smaller jumps, plus racing through airport terminals, collecting luggage, and Branden stopping for coffee at every opportunity, meant that even though it was only nine at night all Naomi could think of was a long shower and an even longer sleep.
