Before the fight...

Hera woke up to her 6 am alarm, slowly opening her eyes. She smiled as her brain registered that it was the day of the fight. All of Hera's money was on Dawn. In all her 27 years of living, she had never seen anyone who was born with so much power and potential. Someone who might even be as strong as the alpha, which naturally should scare her and the other members of the pack, but it excited her, to be close to such power, to train someone with such powers. “…and she has only been a wolf for a month, amazing!” She said out loud. As she yawned, she thought of the relationship between alpha Kieran and Dawn and smiled. It was obvious that there was some tension between them, but because I did not want her to feel uncomfortable around me, so I never brought it up with her. They looked really cute, especially when they were trying to act like there was nothing between them. Kieran had no mate and that made him the most eligible bachelor in the rogue lands and, being the handsome man he was, he had most of the ladies swooning. It had been a very long ride and even though he acted like he did not care she knew that he cared, especially after his relationship with Cara. The relationship between them had ended up being more of a burden than anything, not just to the alpha but also to everyone else. Cara had been a b***h about the whole thing. She had been so possessive that she was even trying to prevent him from having any form of conversation with any other woman. It had been funny, but it stopped being funny when she started threatening other females in the pack. Kieran had been appalled when he found out and it was a relief when he told her off. Good riddance to bad rubbish! Getting up from her bed, she looked at the time on her wall clock and smiled. It was two hours till the fight and she could not wait. The birds were chirping and it was about to be a good day. Turning on the Bluetooth on her phone, she connected it to her music player and picked out her favorite feel good playlist, played the music, and dropped the phone back on her bedside table. Then, taking off her sleeping robe, she hung it and as she was walking to the bathroom she got a call. Cursing silently, she walked back to the bedside table and picked up the phone. It was Joe. “Ayyy queen Hera,” “Hey, Joe. What’s up?” “Nothing much, just getting ready for the fight.” “Same here,” she said as she walked to her window. Folding a knee, she sat on the couch by it and watched the sunrise, “Do you have any idea about the other werewolves who would be fighting?” “That is what I called you about,” Joe said, then kept quiet. “Okay?” “Cara is one of them.” “What?!” Talk about the devil, she thought. “That was also my reaction. Dane called to tell me because he thought it was strange that daddy’s little girl was signing up for the fight.” Joe called Cara daddy’s little girl because she was a spoilt daddy’s little girl. Sighing, I placed my hand on my forehead and leaned on it. What was she trying to do? “I don’t trust that woman, I am sure she has something up her sleeve and I don’t want her aggravating Dawn.” “I know.” Then after a pause, he added, “I don’t know if I should tell Kieran or just let him find out himself.” “You should just let him find out by himself. I don’t think it’s a good idea to let him know before the fight.” “Why don’t you think it’s a good idea? I have a reason but I want to know what your reason is.” Rolling her eyes, she said, “Because it is Cara, there is nothing that has to do with her that is ever a good idea.” Joe chuckled. “Well, I guess we’ll just have to see how it all goes.” “Yeah, I guess.” Then after a pause she added, “I’ll just call Dawn to check on her and see how she is preparing for the fight.” “Yeahhh, that is a good idea. See you later then.” “’kay.” “ And hey queen Hera,” Joe quickly added before she turned off the call, “Don’t worry, Dawn was trained by you and Darius, I know she is going to be alright.” Smiling, she said, “I’m not worried about Dawn. For the first time, it is actually Cara I am worried about.” Laughing, Joe said, “That is a first. Why?” “Dawn was awakened with a blood rage, if Cara does something and triggers it…” she then kept quiet. “Ohh…” Joe said, understanding her now. Then, after they were silent for a few seconds, he said, “The only way she would trigger it is if she does something which goes against the rules and if that happens, then it will be on her.” “Yeah, I guess.” Hera said, “But I will talk to Dane and we’ll keep close eyes on her. Okay?” “Okay,” then Hera turned to see that it was almost 7 am. She had to go now, “Gotta go. Later Joe, and thanks for letting me know.” “I got you.” Joe said, before cutting the call. He always got her, Hera thought, as she dropped the phone and stared into space for a few seconds. She knew Dawn was extremely strong and she still had to learn more about herself and her powers. There was so much they had not covered yet, so she did not want her becoming uncontrollable with the other members of the pack present. She would let Kieran know when she got to the arena. Then she called Dawn just to check on her like she had told Joe she would do, She called her twice but she did not pick up her call and it was almost 7 am and Dawn was probably busy getting ready or maybe she was already at the arena, so she decided to call her again when she got out of the shower. Getting up from the couch, she walked to the bathroom. On her way, she resumed playing music and dropped the phone on the bedside table. She suddenly stopped when she was almost at the door and wondered why she did not think of calling Kieran, then decided that she would call him when she was done having her shower. ****** Kieran Arnell My ring tone pulled me out of the empty dream I was having. It took me a few minutes to register the fact that I was in my study as I slowly opened my eyes. How had I gotten here? I asked myself as I shook my head, and then opening my eyes, I slowly got an understanding of where I was. After leaving Dawn in her room to get some rest, I had been unable to find any sleep, I had been restless and that had kept me up through the night. I was awake when Dawn had left her room sometime after midnight. She had stayed out for a bit and even though I had wondered if she needed company, I just let her be since I had been with her earlier on. I wondered if she was worried about something or just anxious because of the fight, but after staying in the study for a while and still not finding sleep, I then finally decided to go out and join her. Just as I got up to leave the study, I walked around the desk and almost immediately sensed May moving somewhere in her room and halted in my tracks and it seemed Dawn had felt it too because not long after that, she was walking up the stairs. She had taken longer to get into her room and I wondered if I should come out then and meet her on the stairs but the door to her room opened and closed before I could decide on what to do. Cursing in frustration, I walked back to the desk, sat down and continued nursing the glass of scotch I had served myself till I slept off. The ring from the phone dragged my attention back to the present again, it sounded so loud. Cursing in frustration, I reached for the phone and picked it up without even looking at the screen. “Yes?” I sounded very gruff, which made me clear my throat. “Are you just getting up? I can’t believe it.” It was Hera. “What’s up,” I said, not replying to her question because I knew Hera would not call this early for no reason. If it was Joe, I would probably have ended the call but it was Hera, so I wanted to hear what she had to say, plus I was really not in the mood for small talk. Hera obviously got the message because she went ahead to say, “The main reason I called is because it is almost time for the fight and I think we might have a problem.” “What problem? Is Dawn okay?” I said suddenly, alarmed. “I should be asking you, I was trying to get through to Dawn, she is not picking but that is the other reason.” Then she added quickly before I could say anything, “Cara enrolled in today’s fight.” “what?!”
