Juliet tied the robe properly then sat on the bed with a sad face. She pulled her bedside drawer and took out the diary. They just came back from the club and unfortunately, no man took interest in her.
"If any man tells you that you look beautiful, then you don't go on with the nonsense," they made a deal with Amy before leaving for the club but all they did was smile at her, ask her for a dance or just greet her.
This made the thought that maybe what they said about her being cursed was true. Or maybe nobody saw her as a wife material or just maybe she wasn't beautiful enough to get her own man. The maybe's we're too much that she would lose it. She was back to square one, to pull through with the marriage.
Here she was with the diary in her hand ready to read a new page but scared of what she will get. She wasn't sure if she would keep up and for how long she could do that. Would he ever love her as his wife? From the little she has gathered so far, he loved his wife more than himself. The thought of him never loving her, scared the hell out of her. Was that her only fear? She didn't know but deep inside was this tiny voice that was telling her to stop.
The pressure from the outside was suppressing the voice and that was what she was listening to. She opened the diary and read the fourth page, she decided to go page by page to understand her better to enable her to imitate her better.
"Wow, I didn't know he loved red and I'm happy I wore red. I thought the food was okay because I cooked in the morning and stored it in the fridge but I won't mind doing it again the love-making after the fight was amazing," Juliet read it out aloud and took out her diary.
"He loves red and doesn't it still food," she jotted down.
That was enough for the day, she returned the two diaries in the drawer and laid down to sleep.
With new energy, she got up from the bed ready to go to work. The first person she met was her best friend.
"How was your night?"
"Wonderful and yours?" Amy replied and asked.
"Wonderful as well,"
"Can you help me with the file of the man who mistreated his daughter?" Amy requested.
"I will bring it to your office," Juliet promised.
Amy went to her office and met a letter on her table. The first thing that came into her mind was maybe she was being fired after all she wasn't on Zadock's good books.
Amy was scared to open the letter so she picked it and left her office with it. She knows someone else who would help her with the bad news as that was what she expected.
After brushing shoulders with Zadock and he threatened her job, she didn't expect any less. She headed to Vincent's office but he wasn't in so she opted for Zadock's office.
Zadock was in pacing up and down in the office fuming in anger. She didn't need a prophet to tell her that something was wrong.
She wanted to leave silently but he noticed her presence.
"What do you want?" he yelled.
She was startled but composed herself immediately.
"Wrong timing I guess," she commented with an awkward smile.
She walked to the seat and made herself comfortable.
"Finally you got what you wanted? What did you use, your body because your brains can never do that? We have better people than you,"
"I don't understand. What do you mean?" Amy asked back.
She wasn't in the mood for his insults that early.
"You have finally been appointed, isn't that what you've always wanted?"
"By who?"
"Don't act ignorant for Christ's sake you're more than that?" Amelia scoffed. She may be tolerating her boss but there are limits to everything and this time Zadock was crossing the limits.
"Don't tell me you didn't see the news or didn't get the letter? What's your first policy? Fire me or demote me?" he asked.
"I've had a wonderful night's rest and a wonderful morning, I will appreciate it if you don't spoil it for me," she pleaded.
"You got your victory after killing him, you're finally appointed as the new DCI, congratulations," he said in a sarcastic tone.
"Excuse me,"
"Of course you are excused, and forever will be. reach out of my office. I'll be waiting for the firing letter anytime soon maybe after you are sworn in, then I'll be your first assignment," she got more confused.
Not wanting to start a fight that early she got up and left his office. She had enough on her plate to deal and he wasn't even on her bucket list.
Deep in thoughts, she sat in her office.
"Can I come in?" Juliet requested at the door.
"Somebody may think you are outside?" she asked back.
"What's with the mood you were ok minutes ago, what happened?" Juliet made herself comfortable and placed a file in front of her.
"That's the file you asked for, with all the details about him," Juliet added.
"Thank you so much," she appreciated and pulled the file closer to her.
"Can I know what the problem is?" Juliet asked.
"As if this office lacks a problem, it's always one problem after another," Amelia replied.
"What happened this time around?" Juliet sat back to listen to the latest news.
"Zadok of course, I don't even know if he had a nightmare about me or something of that sort because honestly, I don't understand that guy," Amy replied.
"What did he do?"
"Can you imagine, I went to his office to ask him about this letter that I got on my table. Instead of him even listening to me, he started insulting me like we had a beef. I have tried finding out what I did to this guy but I can't put a hand on anything. I tried my best to go the extra mile with my work to impress him but nothing works out. What else does he want from me?
"Maybe one-night stand," Juliet shrugged like it was nothing.
"Excuse me, one what? Do I look like a w***e to him? I'm already fed up with this office, I have already written my resignation letter,' Amy informed her.
"Have you had heard the latest news in town?"
"What is the news about?"
"Your name was approved by the parliament as the new DCI," Juliet announced.
"Wow! that's good news,"
"Yeah it's good, you worked for it. At least my friend is the DCI,"
"Thank you, I didn't know," Amelia answered truthfully.
She was so busy that she didn't remember checking or watching the news.
"You were picked on Friday," Juliet added.
