Try somewhere else

Everyone stole glances at her as she walked past them. She was different or some said she didn't look like herself. She had heavy makeup and even used red lipstick with her hair left free. She looked beautiful but something was odd. Noticing those she passed stopped and even whispered to each other, she hurried her steps and disappeared in the corridors. She never wanted to be the center of attraction to them. Amy who was behind her was surprised at people's reactions. She thought maybe they had been paid a visit So she also hurried her steps to confirm if they were visitors. She was coming from Zadock's office to inquire about the news she found when she arrived a few minutes earlier. "I wish you luck," Vincent stopped her and said. "I wish everybody will be like you," she grumbled. "What did he say?" Vincent asked as they headed to his office. "I killed the DCI to be appointed," she shrugged. "What? Why did he say that?" "Good question, but unfortunately wrong audience. Have you seen Juliet this morning?" She changed the topic. "I knew you would be here. Congratulations in advance because I know the Parliament will approve you for the work. You deserve it," Juliet commented smiling as she stepped into the room. Vincent and Amy turn to face her shock written all over their face. "Have you guys seen a ghost?" "No, you look different. We have never seen you like that," Vincent answered, recovering from the shock and pushing back all the questions he had. "You called me?" "Yes, I had something to tell the both of you," Vincent told her but Amy hadn't recovered yet. She was still digging holes into Juliet with her eyes, making her feel uncomfortable. "I found something about the DCI's death that will shock you guys," Vincent started. "What did you find?" Juliet asked. "The real autopsy shows that apart from being shot, he was also poisoned," "Poisoned by who and why?" that got Amy that she had to stop glaring and Juliet and hear me out. "That isn't the problem, the problem is why was the real autopsy hidden and everyone lied to? Why do people think that he was killed by someone from this unit? That is what is stressing me out," "What if it's Zadock who did it? I don't trust that man. Have you realized that these days it's so easy for him to blame every one of that man's death? I won't be surprised if we find out that he is the murder or the mind behind it," Amy mumbled. "I'll find out the truth behind all this," Vincent promised. "Count me in," they both answered simultaneously. "I'm drawing down a plan, a strategy on how to catch the culprit then I'll let you guys know," "Sure, I'll be in my office," Amy stepped out and Juliet followed suit. "What's with all this? Did you look at yourself in the mirror?" Amy asked as they entered her office. "How do I look?" "Do you expect a reply from me?" She asked back. "Can you please understand me? My younger brother got married, my younger sister is married and expecting a second child. I'm thirty-four for crying out loud. I'm not getting any younger. I'm not married let alone having a boyfriend. I have a car, a big house, and a business with no heir. What do you expect me to do?" Juliet yelled. She may have a base but it wasn't right. "Do anything else but not to stoop so low as to trade your pride. Marriage is based on love and trust, what is yours based on?" Amy asked. "Stop making it look like I'm making the worst mistake of my life," "Have a seat, let's talk," Amy suggested. "Give me one reason you are doing this. One reason that makes you not to wait a bit longer for a man who will love you?" "My mom arranged a blind date for me last month with an old, big head pathetic fool. That was my last date and I promised to prove both my mom and that good for nothing fool wrong," "What did the man do?" "He told me that I'll never find a man to marry me and he is the only one who can do me a favor," "And you allowed him to go scot-free? Didn't you have your gun with you?" "What was I supposed to do?" "Blow his head so that in the next life, he would mind his tongue," "I'm serious," "Do I look like I'm joking? If you went on a blind date last month, it only means you didn't have this bastard with you. Where did you meet him?" "That day when I was leaving the restaurant feeling down, I bumped into him and we talked. That was when he told me that I looked like his wife and he met her in the same restaurant we met," "What's with this dress code, makeup, and hairstyle," "After you guys left last night, he came over. When I visited his house, I found his late wife's diary and took it. I went through it and here I am, looking like her," Juliet smiled. "You've met him in less than a month, are you sure you love him?" "I love him, he is handsome, caring, loving," "This weekend, let's go to a club and have fun. We can meet our prince charming," Amy suggested with a smile. She wanted to help her friend but didn't know-how. All she knew was that Juliet was taking herself to the slaughterhouse and she wasn't going to allow that. Juliet decided to give it a try, It won't hurt giving it a try. She can as well us get another man where she won't have to change her character to fit. But what if she doesn't meet that man? she asked herself and though she didn't want to think in that direction, she is a human and there are things she can't avoid.
