Embarrassed

"Can you come over to my house, we are planning Vincent's surprise birthday party?" Amelia read the text from Juliet then dropped the phone on the bed and walked to the bathroom. She just arrived home and was planning on having a good rest to set some things straight. She threatened Zadock earlier about quitting but didn't think she could do it. She was just fed up with everything going on at the office but she loved her job and couldn't stop working because of some useless creatures. As she took her shower, she kept on praying that Zadock isn't promoted because he would make life a living hell for so many people. They can appoint anybody else but not him. She came out of the bathroom to meet a ringing phone. As far as she didn't want to go, Vincent was her friend and she needed to be there. She picked the phone and walked to the closet to pick something to wear. "Are you coming?" Juliet asked. "Yes, I'm coming. Should I come with anything?" Amy inquired. "I want you to bring Vincent over, " Juliet requested. "Ok sure," she guaranteed before she hung up. She dropped the clothes on the bed, tied her robe, and went downstairs to meet her roommates. She just remembered she wasn't staying alone anymore. She met the lady in the kitchen trying to make dinner with her daughter on the couch watching cartoons. She stopped at the kitchen door and stared at the little girl who seemed to be so engrossed watching princess Sofia. She would give anything to have her son there with her but maybe it was too late for her. He hated her for things he never gave her a chance to explain. She exhaled, wiping away the tears that were already streaming down then entered the kitchen. "Good evening," Vero greeted her. "Good evening, the aroma is welcoming," she greeted back and commented. "I'm almost done," "I'm going somewhere but it won't take long, keep some for me, I'll warm the food when I return, " Amy informed her. "You realized my fridge is empty?" Amy chuckled at her own words. "Not so empty, I found something to cook," she answered. "I rarely cook in this house but I'll buy some groceries tomorrow. You should feel comfortable," "Thank you so much for your help, were you able to arrest him?" Vero asked curiously. "No, but he was shot. That shouldn't stress you out, he will be caught, I promise you that," she assured her. "Thank you so much for your help, " "You are welcome, continue with your cooking but don't stay up till late," She instructed and Vero nodded. She stepped out of the kitchen, dressed up, and left for her house. On the way, she dialed Vincent's number. "Are you home already?" She asked when he picked. "No, I'm on my way home," "I just got a call from Juliet, she sounded like she is in trouble so I called you for backup. Can we go together and check?" She requested. "Where you?" "At the junction leading to her house, " "I'll meet up with you a few blocks from her house," "Thank you," Amelia appreciated and hung up. "We are on the way," she sent Juliet a text then dropped the phone in her bag. Arriving at Juliet's house, everywhere was dark. Vincent took out his gun as they headed for the door and Amy chuckled. "Men first," she pushed him forward. "Don't you think she called quite late, I think the people already left," Vincent whispered. "We will try what we can," "This country has stupid people, how on earth do you attack a police officer?" He pushed the door open and switched on the lights pointing to the gun ready to shoot. "Happy birthday," everyone present in the room shouted embarrassing him with his gun. "You knew about this?" He turned back and asked Amy. "You should have told me, not to embarrass myself," he added after seeing her expression. He didn't need her to give him a reply. "Happy birthday," she answered smiling. "Thank you, everyone, I had forgotten that today is my birthday," he said smiling as he picked a drink from the waiting that was serving. Amy walked to Juliet and pulled her upstairs. "You've embarrassed me, the shops were even closed that I couldn't get a good gift for him," Amy complained. "You always complain," Amy noticed a ring on her finger. "Wow, this calls for a celebration, who is the lucky guy? We announce to the rest and we all celebrate," She asked and suggested grinning. "You mean this?" Juliet stretched the hand. "Yes, it's beautiful. Did you have it at work and I didn't see it? How could I miss such details?" Amy questioned. "He gave me yesterday but I didn't wear it to work," "Why?" "And why aren't you happy? You need to announce to everyone then we all celebrate," "I love him, but I don't think he loves me," "If he didn't love you, he won't put that on your finger," Amy pointed at the ring. "He lost his wife during child delivery and I look like his wife, it's complicated. I want to make him love me and fill the void in his heart," "What makes you think, you'll do it? You and I know you can never do that. You may look like her but your characters are different. Why do you want to stress yourself?" "I love him, I'm sure I'll make him fall for me," Amy laughed so hard that she had to hold her tummy. "You want to make a man fall for you?" She asked between the laughs. "What should I do? I love him, he has given me a chance, I'll make him love me back and forget his wife," Juliet looked so sure with herself. "I wish you all the best, but be careful not to get hurt. Men can't be trusted," Amy advised and Juliet sighed frustrated. When she talked to her mom last night, she said the same thing. "You can never be her, either he loves you or not but you will never fit in his wife's place," she recalled her mom's words. Why don't they understand her, she loved Vincent and thought she would never love anybody else but Vincent made it clear that he is in love with someone else. She finally loved someone else and now this? Why was her love life complicated? She was in a bad mood but it just turned to worse with Amy's words. She was somehow right but she (Juliet ) wanted to give it a try.
