Chap 15
COLEEN HASINE'S POV
"My body isn't feeling well, I guess I need some rest and some long hours of sleep," Coleen said and went to her room.
"Okay, this should be your beauty rest day, you have been tired for days," I said.
I continued doing my job and I took a glance to her room, then there I went to the basement quietly.
Turning the switch on, the lights flickered for 5 seconds and it turned on perfectly.
Just as I expected, the portrait that I made was now dry and still in the best condition on where I left it.
"Then, what's the next step?" I asked to myself, sitting on a chair and stared on the painting.
It was fabulous, it was perfection. I never felt so happy and excited before. Like, I wanted this to be done and show her my love and passion for her.
Took one deep inhale, I took the paintbrush and started doing my work. Just a few paint on her dress and the background, then all I need to do is the details.
After 10 days, I'll do everything I can to make it the special day for the both of us. Just another 10 days, before leaving here, I'll propose to her.
Then, protect her with all I can, forever.
As I continued completing the portrait, I heard footsteps from the wooden stairs and it was a little bit fast so I assumed it was Coleen.
Mommy can't walk a little bit fast like that, so I immediately left the room silently then went to the kitchen.
I saw Coleen opening the door then she turned around, sweating.
"Is there any problem? You are sweating too much," I said, staring at her.
She stood straight and tried looking at me directly in the eye, trying to avoid showing any distress. "Er, just wanted to go out and have some fresh air."
Guessing on what she is reacting and how she hid her hands on her back, means she is hiding something. "You wanted to do some picnic, we can—"
"Oh, yeah, another picnic. That would be really nice. So, shouldn't we do it now?" She said then removed her sweat from her face.
Coleen went straight to the kitchen and started taking out food from the fridge that she sees. It was weird, though why is she so worried and scared?
"Why—"
"Because I wanted to have some time with you, today, for this whole day, okay?" She interrupted and started cracking up eggs.
I looked again at the door, it was closed and locked. But, before I went to the basement, it was openly wide then Coleen was trying to unlock the door.
She was trying to make egg pie, an italian style spaghetti, and some french fries. I saw it on the cooking book with the bookmarks she putted.
I helped her, reading the instructions while she do it on our own understanding. Though it was kind of hard to read because some words were unreadable for it was used for a very long time.
"It said, boil the water then when it boils, put oil and salt then the pasta." I handed her the pasta, as she putted a small amount of salt and oil in the pot.
The kitchen was full of amazing aroma of food, it was satisfying. Coleen started to smile as she read the cook book, like she really enjoyed cooking.
"Can you get the pepper, it's over there," she said, pointing out the pepper placed on the cabinet.
Since I am taller and she cannot reach the cabinet, of course I will be the one who will get it for her.
"Where will we have a nice picnic, love?" I asked.
I handed her the pepper and she looked at me, "Just in the garden, no need to go outside or anything."
My brain is trying to think of a topic to have some noise in the kitchen, rather have some talk."Remember, Julie Reseeso, your best friend in college?"
"Oh, yes, she is now married actually, she is going to deliver her first baby in another 3 months. Can't wait to be there and see her kid," She responded and started to cook the sauce.
"Oh, I wish Matt is still contacting me like you and Julie. He is my best friend, but he didn't even talk to me after graduation." I said then took the cooking book, reading the next instruction.
"Ouch!"
Coleen screamed for a second, then looking at her, she was holding her left hand and there was a spoonful of hot sauce from the pot in the back of palm. It was still hot and steamy, so I immediately opened the faucet and let her left hand some cold water.
I handed her a clean white towel and let her sat on a chair. I continued cooking while she is having rest.
"Sorry, you shouldn't be cooking today, I was supposed to be the one who will make food, not you. This is embarrassing," She said, placing her right hand in her face.
"You don't need to empress me with your cooking skills or do anything that would make me happy, you already made me happy and special," I said, looking at her with a smile.
She suddenly bursted into tears so I turned off the stove and went to her.
"Why are you crying? You shouldn't be crying because of what I said, I am sorry, okay?" Handing her a tissue, she wiped the tears in her cheeks.
I sat beside her, waiting for her to talk. "Because you have been loving me all this time, you never cared about my mistakes or my insecurities or even my cooking skills. You never looked at my negativity. Why?" She asked.
I took a deep breath and held her hand, "Because you are perfect in my eyes, inside or outside. Why do you need to learn on how to love me if you already took my heart?"
"Besides, it's fine if you try improving yourself for me, but you should be doing it for yourself first, always think of that," I continued.
She placed my left hand in her right cheek and I felt the warm temperature of her face. Coleen closed her eyes then placed her left hand into my right cheek.
It was cold, but I like it that way. We have been together for years and faced struggles we couldn't imagine, but, in just a few nights and days, our dream will come true as our hearts became more stronger.
I will prove to everyone that I will protect and love Coleen Hasine, never let her go.
"I have a question for you, my love," She said, slowly opening her dazzling eyes, "If I made a decision that is good for the both of us, will you accept it, even though you will never like it?"
I stopped for a few seconds and just stared at her, her question was very different and I do not know what to answer.
"I will respect your decision of course, even if I do not agree with it. It's your decision, my love, not mine. But, I will try my best to avoid that situation from happening," I answered, trying to ease from what bothers her.
"I guess you will be fine, thank you for everything, my love. I will be by your side, always," She whispered in my ear, softly.
Preparing everything at the garden, we chose the nicest place to have a picnic, under the wonderful tree.
The tree has leaves and it's more lovely and alive than before.
Birds chirping and singing as the cold wind let the leaves and bushes to create a very peaceful sound.
I went to my room and hurriedly bought the guitar that I used when I courted her years ago.
The same guitar that I will be using before we will have our hearts be legally combined.
I sat beside her and she was amazed that it was the guitar she saw when we met.
"It's still with you? That guitar looks its new, but it is more longer than you will expect," she said, pointing the guitar.
Smiling, I placed my fingers to where they are and started to play the guitar.
"They said, 'I bet they'll never make it'
But just look at us holding on
We're still together, still going strong," She started singing while looking at me.
"You're still the one I run to."
"The one that I belong to," She finally released her beautiful voice.
"You're still the one I want for life."
She closed her eyes slowly, still singing her part like what we did on the contest. The contest that changed our lives and it was the time where our hearts have fallen to each other.
Since that day and years have passed, both of us felt that we really need each other to fulfill on what we are missing. The endless love. Flawless love.
"You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss goodnight," She sang so heavenly, why didn't I let her sing before?
The song went well and both of looked at each other's eyes, full of love and positivity that could full up the emptiness of our hearts.
"You're still the one I kiss goodnight," I sang it very carefully and full of love, I want her to feel it.
"I'm so glad we made it
Look how far we've come, my baby..." Ending the song, she closed her eyes and smiled.
"I missed this type of date, remember I almost destroyed your guitar because it slipped in my hand when we were going downstairs?" She laughed.
"Yeah, it also left a scar in my guitar, look," I said, turning the guitar and pointing out the broken part. It was not big, you can't even notice it.
"Fine, I am sorry about that! Can you sing me another song? At my worst?" She requested, so I nodded.
I started to play the guitar once again, while looking at her eyes. She was happy, there was no trace of sadness or anything, just seeing her like this is the most wonderful thing that I want her to experience everyday in her life.
"That was cool, that was fantastic. No wonder why you are the campus crush in college. I have chosen the person that will love me back," she chuckled and held my hand.
I gave her a passionate kiss while gently massaging her soft hand in mine.
"I love you till I die, Kyle Jimenez," She whispered.
