THE BEGINNING
Introduction In the mystical world of werewolves, where pack dynamics and ancient traditions reign supreme, Marcus Rice, the beta of the Gold-moon pack, finds himself at a crossroads. His life is about to take a dramatic turn, one that will challenge everything he thought he knew about himself, his pack, and the mysterious forces that govern their existence. As Marcus navigates the complex web of pack politics and supernatural intrigue, he discovers a mate who defies all expectations, a human who will change the course of his life forever. Marcus, like every werewolf had dreamt of the day wors would fail him, the day his world would disappear and narrow down to one scent, the scent of his mate. Bearing the runt of a traumatic pasts he awakens every morning, haunted by dreams of the past. As beta he has is loyal and committed to his pack and alpha, who saved his from his past. He is seen as enigmatic and unapproachable by the pack. But those close to him recognize him as the sarcastic, slightly grumpy yet loyal and protective character that he is. Meanwhile, Celia Murphy is a strong-willed human who is used to facing life on her own. She has a sharp wit and a confidence in her daily life. Unlike our male main character she seems to have a more positive outlook on life, and a trusting heart despite the difficulties she faces in her everyday life. The beginning. Dennis’ birthday. Marcus Rice, the Beta of the gold-moon pack is a man in his late twenties. He’s tall and possesses a striking athletic build, dark brown hair, often left unkempt, strong cheekbones and piercing green eyes. He has fair skin tinged with a subtle golden tan from spending most of his time outdoors. It is an important morning today. The morning of the alpha, Dennis’ birthday. But while the pack hurriedly moved about the house to prepare for the day’s celebrations, such was not the case for the pack’s beta. Marcus' eyes snapped open, his chest heaving as he gasped for air. The vivid dream still lingered in his mind, transporting him back to a traumatic moment from his past. The screams that echoed in his dream were a sound he dreaded, a painful reminder of the terror he had faced as a twelve-year-old boy. He threw off the covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed, his feet dangling in the air as he tried to shake off the lingering fear. With a deliberate effort, he stood up and walked to the bathroom, the cool floor beneath his feet helping to ground him. As he splashed water on his face, he couldn't help but wonder why these nightmares still plagued him, and why he hadn't outgrown them by now. Looking up at his reflection he cannot help but notice how rough he looks. “Well, you look like shit.” His wolf, Bryan chimes in sarcastically. “Shut up mutt” Marcus grunts. Marcus sighed and splashed water on his face, trying to wake himself up. He had a long day ahead of him, and it was already starting off on the wrong foot. As the beta of the Gold-moon pack, Marcus was used to being in control, but his wolf's constant nagging was starting to get on his nerves. He blocks his wolf’s voice for that reason. After a quick bath and shave, Marcus stepped out of the bathroom and began getting dressed in one of his many black outfits. He opens the door of his room and for a second, he contemplates going back inside his room due to the high levels of cheerfulness the pack seems to have adopted compared to his gloomy mood. Nevertheless, he preservers. He made his way downstairs, where he was greeted by the cheerful faces of his pack members. Marcus grumbled a greeting in response, earning a few amused glances. "Good morning, Beta-" David, the head of the pack house, began. Marcus cut him off, "Marcus, David. For the fiftieth time, just call me Marcus." David apologized, but Marcus could tell he was just going through the motions. "But I believe it's much more proficient that you are addressed with your official title-" Marcus raised a brow and interrupted him again, "Can I help you, David?" David cleared his throat and said, "Uh- yes, well, Alpha Dennis wishes to see you. Now, in his office." Marcus nodded and headed towards the eastern wing of the pack house. As he walks he promptly unblocks his wolf. Bryan piped up in his mind, "TEN MINUTES! YOU PUSHED ME TO THE BACK OF YOUR MIND FOR TEN MINUTES! LIKE I'M SOME- SOME- SOME SORT OF-“ Marcus sighed and replied, "Take your time, gramps-" Bryan's response was immediate, "SILENCE! I REFUSE TO BE INSULTED BY-" After a brief moment of bickering with his wolf, Marcus tuned out Bryan's ranting and focused on the task at hand. He arrived at Dennis' office and took a deep breath before knocking on the door. "Come in," Dennis' voice called out. Marcus entered the office and was greeted by Dennis' amused expression “Ah good morning Marcus” Dennis greets “Good morning, Alpha. Sorry, the voice in my head was being a prick” Dennis develops a very amused expression and speaks. “Marcus” he says, “you sound schizophrenic.” Marcus felt his face heat up with embarrassment. "Sc- schizophr-" He stuttered, before Dennis interrupted him with a chuckle. "Oh, don't act so offended, you know it's true." Just then, Aliea, Dennis' mate, walked into the room. "Good morning, Marcus. How are you?" she asked with a warm smile. Marcus grumbled a greeting in response, earning a chuckle from Dennis. "Don't be sweet to him," Dennis said, winking at Aliea. "Oh, for the love of the Goddess-," Bryan muttered in Marcus' mind. Aliea spoke up, "Yes, my love. Now, I'm going to oversee the preparations for your birthday. Be nice." Marcus watched as Aliea left the room, feeling a pang of envy. He wanted what Dennis and Aliea had – a strong bond with his mate. But first, he needed to find her. "Marcus, I need to talk to you about something," Dennis said, his expression turning serious. Marcus nodded, sensing that this conversation was going to be important. "I've summoned you here to blackmail you into going on a quest for me," Dennis said, a mischievous glint in his eye. Marcus raised a brow, intrigued. "What kind of quest?" "I need you to go to Greenfield and talk to the mayor," Dennis explained. "We need to establish a border between our territories, and I need someone I can trust to handle it." Marcus hesitated, knowing that Greenfield was a human-populated town. But Dennis' words struck a chord – he owed his alpha a favor, and this was his chance to repay him. The human The sun cast a warm glow over the bustling streets of Greenfield, illuminating the quaint shops and cafes that lined the main thoroughfare. The smell of freshly brewed coffee wafted from the doors of "The Daily Grind," enticing passersby to come in and sample the latest offerings. Inside, the atmosphere was lively, with the hum of conversation and the gentle hiss of steam from the espresso machine creating a soothing background noise. Celia moved with practiced ease behind the counter, her hands moving in a blur as she crafted drink after drink. The soft clinking of cups and saucers, the gentle chatter of the regulars, and the occasional burst of laughter all blended together to create a sense of warmth and welcoming. It was just another day at the café, but little did Celia know, her life was about to take a dramatic turn.
