Chapter One: Before Fate Interfered
Damian's POV
Power wasn't earned.
It was taken.
Damian Knight learned that lesson when he was twelve years old, standing beside his father's grave while relatives smiled at him with fake sympathy. They didn't mourn the man. They mourned the empire they could no longer control.
They underestimated him.
Now, at twenty-eight, Damian owned Knight Holdings, one of the biggest business empires in the country. Behind the polished suits and billion-dollar deals was a man people whispered about. Ruthless. Cold. Dangerous.
He never smiled unless someone was about to lose everything.
"Sir, your meeting starts in five minutes."
His assistant's voice pulled him back to reality.
Damian adjusted the cuffs of his black suit before walking into the boardroom.
Within thirty minutes, he had fired two executives, shut down a fraudulent partnership, and acquired another company.
No emotion.
No hesitation.
His phone buzzed.
Grandmother.
He sighed before answering.
"Damian."
"Grandmother."
"When are you going to stop working and find a wife?"
His jaw tightened.
"I'm busy."
"You've been busy for ten years."
"I have no interest in marriage."
"You'll die alone."
"I'll be too dead to care."
She hung up.
He slipped the phone into his pocket without another thought.
Love was a distraction.
People betrayed.
Love weakened.
And Damian Knight refused to be weak.

Lily's POV
"You'll miss the bus!"
Lily Carter stuffed her books into her backpack before rushing out of her tiny apartment.
"I'm coming!"
Her younger brother laughed as he chased after her.
Life wasn't easy.
After losing both parents in a car accident six years ago, Lily had become everything to her little brother.
His sister.
His guardian.
His family.
She worked evenings at a café, attended university during the day, and barely slept.
Still...
She smiled.
Because someone had to.
"You forgot your lunch," her neighbor called.
Lily laughed softly.
"Thank you!"
She bowed before hurrying toward the bus stop.
Unlike most girls her age, she didn't dream about luxury.
She dreamed about graduating.
Getting a stable job.
Buying a small house.
Giving her brother the life he deserved.
That was enough.
At university, her best friend, Ava, threw an arm around her shoulders.
"You studied all night again?"
Lily nodded.
"Exams are next week."
"You need a boyfriend."
"I need sleep."
They both laughed.
Little did Lily know...
Sleep would soon become something she could no longer have.

Damian's POV
Night fell over the city.
From the top floor of Knight Tower, Damian watched the glittering skyline.
His security chief approached.
"The man who stole company funds has been found."
Damian didn't turn around.
"And?"
"He's begging for another chance."
A bitter smile crossed Damian's lips.
"Did he give my company another chance before betraying it?"
"No."
"Then neither will I."
His security chief nodded.
"Understood."
Damian stared into the darkness.
People always wanted second chances.
They rarely deserved them.
For the first time in years...
His perfectly controlled life was about to change.
He just didn't know it yet.

Lily's POV
The café closed at 9:30 p.m.
Exhausted, Lily cleaned the last table before changing into her hoodie.
Her manager smiled.
"Good job today."
"Thank you."
She stepped outside.
Rain had begun to fall.
She pulled her hood over her head and started walking home.
A black luxury car sped past, splashing water onto the roadside.
Lily jumped back just in time.
"So rude," she muttered with a small sigh.
She had no idea whose car it was.
And the man inside never noticed her.
Not tonight.
Not yet.
Because fate wasn't ready for their first meeting.
But when it happened...
It would change both of their lives forever.
