Chapter 2

Walter whispered in Brenda's ear, "You look even more beautiful!" Brenda's heart fluttered .She couldn't help but feel flattered by his attention, even though she knew he was just teasing her. Brenda was always conscious of her appearance, and she took pride in her beauty. She was also aware of Walter's attractiveness, and she found herself drawn to him despite his childish behavior. When Walter saw Brenda's upset face, he quickly left his office and walked to the lift with his usual calm attitude. He thought of how he used to make fun of his favourite math teacher in high school. When Brenda saw Walter's calm demeanor as he left her office, she felt a pang of disappointment. She had hoped that he would show some reaction to her outburst, but he seemed completely unaffected. This made Brenda question her own feelings for him. Was she just another one of his conquests, or did he actually care about her? Going back to... Brenda told the head of Class IPA-1 at Pelita Harapan High School, "Walter, please bring this book to my office!" Walter got up and walked over to the teacher's desk with a lot of energy. "Sure, Miss Brenda," Walter answered. He then got up, grabbed a book from a classmate's desk, and walked over to Brenda's office, where he put the book on her desk. As always, Brenda said, "Thank you, Walter!" with her usual cold face. Brenda was the most famous intern teacher back then because she was pretty and came up with creative ways to teach. Many of her students didn't like maths, but she found ways to make it fun by using games and tests. Brenda's scary side would come out, though, if someone bothered her during a lesson. Her face would stay cold and detached until the class was over. Walter asked, "You're so pretty, Miss! Would you like to be my future wife?" This made Brenda angry, and her face turned red. Brenda told Walter, "You're such a child, talking about wives when you're so young. Get your studies done!" and waved her hand to get Walter to leave. Walter kept making fun of Brenda by arranging his body in front of her and asking, "Who said I'm small, Miss?" Naturally, Brenda got even more angry because she thought her own student was hitting her. Brenda yelled, "Watch out now!" as she reached for Walter's ear. Yet, Brenda's short height meant that her hand couldn't reach him. Bryan quickly left to avoid Brenda's possible anger. "See, Miss, you can't reach me! I promise, Brenda, you'll be my wife one day," he said. As Walter ran off, Brenda smiled as she watched his shape fade away. Walter was very good-looking, with a face that reminded her of Korean oppas and a well-built body that made him even more attractive. She told herself, "Snap out of it, Brenda! He's your student!" and pushed the ideas away. Don't flash back Blow up... She was thinking about something and hit Walter on the back as he stopped in front of the lift. "Sorry, sir, I didn't mean to do that!" Brenda stuttered because she was afraid her new boss would get mad at her for being careless. She was confused, and it made her feel bad to work for someone who had once been important to her. She thought she might not be able to keep up a professional friendship. When she worked as a secretary before, she was great at her job and always did great work. Walter walked into the open lift without saying anything, and Brenda followed him from behind. "Come here, don't stand behind me!" Walter yelled and grabbed Brenda's hand, making her trip. She was caught off guard by his sudden appearance. She felt a rush of adrenaline as he grabbed her hand and pulled her into the lift. His touch was familiar and intoxicating, and it sent a shiver down her spine. Despite her initial surprise, Brenda couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. She was flattered by Walter's attention, and she enjoyed the feeling of being close to him. But she also couldn't shake off the feeling that he was up to something. Brenda slowly let go of Walter's hand. "I'm sorry, sir," Brenda said with a sneer. Brenda had been staying away from guys who were not related to her since she decided to make a change in her life. She really felt bad about the mistakes she had made with Walter in the past. Because of those mistakes, Brenda couldn't bring herself to date guys. Men had been interested in Brenda more than once as her 27th birthday got closer. Even her folks tried to set her up with dates, but Brenda always turned them down. It was hard for her to fall in love again for some reason. Brain was in the driver's seat, and Brenda wasn't sure whether to sit next to him or in the back bench. She finally chose to sit in the back. Walter asked Brenda, "Why are you sitting in the back? Am I your driver?" while looking at her face in the rearview mirror. Walter smiled big as he saw Brenda move to sit next to him in the front seat. He was happy to have made fun of his crush. In order to be alone with his new servant, who seemed like a lot of fun to tease, he asked his driver, Billy, to take a break. The car pulled over right in front of a fancy restaurant. Walter stopped Brenda just as she was about to open the car door. "Wait for me in the car," Walter told them, being strict. "All right, sir!" Brenda said with a smile. Walter moved his face closer to Brenda's without meaning to. Walter said in a soft voice, "Don't ever smile like that in front of other men!" He then flicked his finger across Brenda's forehead, but she didn't move. After locking the car door, Walter walked up to a pretty girl standing in front of the restaurant in a knee-length pink dress with a flowy pattern. Brenda felt uncomfortable when she saw Walter kiss the girl on both cheeks. Even more so when she saw Walter happily hugging the girl and the girl's arm around his waist in a loving way. Brenda knew Walter had probably forgotten about her since they had only been together for a few days. They were together for three days before Brenda left without saying a word. While Brenda was waiting for Walter to have lunch with his girlfriend (his girlfriend from her point of view), she put on her headphones to calm her heart, which felt heavy when she thought about her sad love story with Walter. Brenda felt a surge of jealousy and betrayal. She had thought that Walter might still care about her, but it was clear that he had moved on. She felt foolish for hoping that he would change, and she couldn't help but blame herself for their past mistakes. As Brenda sat in the car, waiting for Walter to return, she tried to suppress her emotions. She knew that she couldn't let her feelings for him interfere with her work. But she couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness and longing. Brain still hadn't left the place thirty minutes after it closed. Brenda didn't like that Walter was using her as a mosquito net while he was on his date instead of taking her to meet a client. Walter walked up with the same girl in his arms and opened the car door for Brenda just as she was about to get out. They gave each other a warm hug in front of Brenda. Brenda's inner voice told her to wake up, "Remember, he's not the same Walter from before. He's your boss now." Walter gave Brenda a bag and a bottle of cold mineral water as he got into the car. "Here, this is for you. You probably haven't eaten yet." "Thank you, sir!" Brenda said as she took the food. Brenda said to herself, "Sure, Mr. Walter. You're having a good time on your date in there while I'm hot and sweaty in the car." Even though they were driving, there was no talking because neither of them started. Brenda was antsy because her boss hadn't talked to her since the morning. Brenda watched Walter without realising it. The Walter from before was very different from this one. That Walter used to be tall and skinny, like a Korean oppa. Oh, he looked so good! His body was very attractive, and Brenda couldn't help but melt a little. His expensive suit gave off an air of youth and professionalism. *** Walter went right to his room when he got to the office, and didn't even notice that Julie was waiting for him. Julie didn't understand why Walter had such a happy face after having lunch with Brenda. And then she looked at Brenda, who was following Walter. Julie became suspicious when she saw Brenda's sad face. Could it be true that what she was thinking had happened? Was Walter being sneaky with his new secretary? Brenda was drowsy as she walked to her desk. For breakfast, she had only had a piece of bread and a glass of milk. This made her really hungry. Because she wanted to impress her new boss, she got to work on time at 7 a.m. each day. Julie asked Brenda, "Why do you look so down? You were out with the boss, but you seem a little off." "I'm so hungry, Julie. I haven't eaten since the morning, and then I had to wait while the boss went on a date!" Brenda said as she opened the bag Walter had given her. Is Brenda telling the truth? The boss has never had a girlfriend, as far as I know!" Julie asked after giving it some thought. She knew that their young boss had never been with someone else. Even Dennis and Rachel didn't understand why Walter always turned down possible matches that their family suggested, even though he didn't have a partner himself. Brenda didn't say anything about it and moved on to her food. "Turns out Walter still remembers my favourite food!" Brenda said in a low voice, not noticing that Julie was confused. Nah, Julie, don't worry about it too much. I'm hungry, would you like some?" Brenda asked Julie. "No, thanks, Brenda. I already had lunch with the others," Julie said. She then looked back at the computer screen, still confused. "Could it be true that Mr. Walter has a girlfriend?" Brenda kept eating, but her thoughts kept going back to what she had said to Walter at lunch. She focused on her work and tried to get rid of her mixed feelings. Brenda tried to act cheerful and unaffected. But she couldn't hide her disappointment from Julie, who noticed her downcast expression. Brenda felt guilty for lying to Julie, but she didn't want to admit her true feelings.
