Chapter 1
Dennis told Walter over breakfast this morning, "Walter, your new secretary is coming today, and you can talk to her directly." "Why don't I just hire Julie as my secretary? You could use a new one, Dad," Walter said in a lazy way. He didn't like the thought of hiring a new secretary who might not have much experience. "Don't be so casual about it. I'm fine with Julie, and Mom wants the new secretary for you. Be nice to her; she's Aunt Abigail's daughter and a friend from Samarinda. Remember that, Walter?" Rachel asked, introducing the possible new secretary. "Forgot, Mom. It's been such a long time. And I'm supposed to be nice to her just because she's Mom's friend's child? That's not how it works, Mom. If her performance is poor, I need to be firm!" Walter replied, not wanting to relent. His old secretary quit because she was pregnant, so he needed a new one right away to take over all of his work. "Mom doesn't care. You have to accept the secretary Mom chose, period." Rachel praised with bright eyes, determined to make her plan work. "But, Mom?" Walter asked, knowing that his mom's wants were usually set in stone. "Both Dad and I have decided that she will be your secretary. Don't worry about her performance. She had an excellent track record at her previous company. Dad brought her into our company, so just accept it!" Dennis said firmly, not wanting to be tested. Walter's only goal was to finish his food as quickly as possible. His morning mood was bad because of the new servant. That's not good. Walter said, "Oh my God," after swearing to himself. He then kissed Rachel on the hand. Walter quickly left before seeing his parents getting close. Of course, Walter would often find his parents kissing, and even though they weren't young anymore, he would sometimes wish they were closer. Walter, who was almost 24 years old, had never had a girlfriend and had only been in love once. But he had to go through sadness when the girl suddenly broke up with him. *** "Good morning, Mr. Walter. Excuse me, your new secretary has arrived," Dennis's secretary Julie said as she led Brenda into Walter's office for the interview. "Good morning," Walter said as he turned his big chair around to face Julie, who was now in his office. His mood had changed since he got to work; he was less excited because he was thinking about the failed love in his past. He saw a scared-looking girl standing behind Julie. Brain squinted his eyes and for a moment wondered if his parents had made the right choice by hiring someone with such a small frame as a secretary. His old secretary was very pretty, classy, well-dressed, and definitely smart. It wasn't clear to Walter why his parents made the choice they did. Julie said, "Let me introduce Miss Brenda, your new secretary." His name shocked him like a lightning strike in the morning. Both his body and his heart stopped beating right away. Could the Brenda Julie talked about be the same Brenda from his past? Walter was interested, so he went up to the girl. Julie quickly stepped down because she knew her boss was very picky about who worked for him, especially as his secretary. He wanted everything to be just right. Their eyes locked as Brenda's face slowly rose. They just looked at each other for a few seconds. Thud... There was shock between them both. Walter didn't think he'd see Brenda again, especially since she looked so different. When Walter noticed that there was silence, he quickly changed his face back to his normal cold and distant look. Brenda was just as shocked. It looked like God had heard her prayers because she was able to meet Walter again after being apart for more than five years. Feelings of happiness or sadness were hard for Brenda to figure out because she was afraid Walter might already have a girlfriend or even a wife. Because of what she had done in the past, Brenda wasn't sure if Walter had forgiven her. "Let me introduce myself. My name is Brenda, and you can find out more about me on my CV," Brenda said strongly, trying to hide her nerves. She did everything she could to keep her heart from beating. "My name is Walter Samudra, but you can call me Mr. Walter," Walter said, putting out his hand. Brenda hesitated before shaking Walter's hand. She got up the courage to take a quick look at Walter. Walter was not at all like the Walter she knew when he was her student. He had become even more beautiful and attractive. Brenda wondered if she could work with the man she still loved deeply and hide how she felt. Seeing Walter's happy face made Julie feel better. The sign meant that her boss liked the new secretary. Julie would have been in trouble because she would have had to be Walter's secretary if he had turned down Brenda. Even more so because of her young, sometimes mean boss. Julie had always been curious about why her young boss didn't have a girlfriend, even though a lot of pretty women came to the office looking for him. Not to mention the women who worked there and admired him. They would stand in line, hoping to get his attention, but none of them were able to. Julie had been unsure when she saw Brenda's strict clothes earlier. She knew that her boss liked it when workers dressed in a classy way. Brenda really was beautiful and lovely. Some people thought Julie looked a little silly in the showing clothes she wore when she met Brenda for the first time. "Julie, please teach Miss Brenda all of her tasks. I expect her to have learned all of her new duties by tomorrow!" Walter ordered in a cold and hard tone. After he finished speaking, he went back to his big chair and got back to work. Brenda and Julie quickly left Walter's office and went over all the jobs that Brenda would be taking over. Brenda quickly taking on her roles surprised Julie in a good way. Brenda wasn't just pretty; she was also smart; she took in all of Julie's information in an instant. Julie praised Brenda, "You're amazing to have learned everything I taught you so quickly. It usually takes me a week to train Mr. Walter's new secretaries." She stood up to stretch because she had been sitting for too long. Brenda was interested and asked, "Does Mr. Walter change his secretary a lot?" "Yes, Brenda. Mr. Walter is strict and meticulous. He demands perfection in all tasks. The previous secretary resigned just a week ago as she's about to give birth soon, even though she was a good fit for the job," Julie said excitedly. She had only known Brenda for one day, but she already felt like she knew the girl. Brenda asked in a friendly voice, "Just call me Brenda." "You can call me Julie too. We're about the same age, haha," Julie laughed happily. She was glad to work with a nice person like Brenda. Most of the women at work liked to talk about other people, and Julie was often seen hanging out with the bosses, so she hadn't been able to make any close friends there. In Brenda's ear, Julie said, "Oh, and one more thing. Mr. Walter is still single, you know. Who knows, you might be lucky enough to win his heart." Brenda just stared blankly, not knowing what to say. *** Walter was antsy in his office because he wasn't expecting to run into his old love again. He had to agree that Brenda looked even more beautiful now, and he wanted to marry her right away. "Marriage?" Walter's spirit voice yelled. Could it be that Brenda liked him after all? Like? From that point on, Brenda had never even responded to his love letters. He quickly picked up Brenda's CV, which was sitting on his desk. He was interested in whether she was single or married. However, Walter was reminded of how rudely Brenda had turned him down before he could read the whole CV. He threw the CV back onto his desk hard because he didn't want to think about his ex-lover again. Walter said to himself, "Here I am, her boss. Just wait for my answer, Brenda." *** Walter tried to get his attention back by getting lost in the work on his desk. He couldn't take his eyes off of the girl in the headscarf, though. She was working hard at the computer with Julie. Walter would sometimes see Brenda laughing or smiling, which made his heart feel very happy. Walter whispered to himself, "Oh God, what should I do? Should I just ask her directly why she left me back then? Or should I stay quiet and act like none of that ever happened?" He was trying to calm down by adjusting his tie roughly. His feelings had been all over the place since he met Brenda this morning. He told her that he still loved her very much, even though he had been trying for more than 5 years to hate her and failed horribly. Walter's handsome face suddenly got a sneaky grin. Walter yelled from in front of Julie and Brenda's desk, "Brenda, come to lunch with me with a client right now!" They both looked at Walter in shock, but Julie looked the most shocked. She was shocked by her boss's order because she knew she didn't have a client meeting today outside of work. Brenda wasn't even supposed to start working until the next day. Julie was filled with fear; she thought Walter might hurt Brenda with something. Walter smiled as he turned around and walked back to his office. *** Brenda stood in front of Walter's desk and said, "Let's go, sir!" Walter got up from his big chair and walked over to Brenda. He adjusted his jacket while looking at her with a face that was hard to read. Brenda was very short compared to Walter. She was only 155 cm tall, while Walter was 185 cm tall, so she only reached his chest. Walter had to bowed his head to see the pretty girl.
