Of course we couldn’t have any time off to just enjoy each other’s company. It was back to training in the dull little room with Xander trying to explain the best way to keep your concentration while holding a telepathic conversation and lifting something with your mind simultaneously. He’d already explained it to me before so I decided to try to read his mind while he was preoccupied.
I concentrated on his mind. He kept talking. I tried to go past the words he was saying and get to what was behind.
Nothing.
I tried again.
Nothing.
His mental shield was firmly in place.
I sighed. I might have been able to get through it if I pushed hard, but then he’d know I was there.
