Chapter 9
I looked around me and all I could see was dirt and rocks and tree roots. Above me, the sky was dark. Daddy would never find me.
A spider lowered itself from one of the roots. I cringed and moved further away so it wouldn’t land on my leg.
A beetle crawled over my foot and I screamed.
I woke with a start and tried to slow my breathing. My heart raced. Would I ever get over being trapped in that hole in the ground when I was a child?
I hadn’t thought about it for years, but Daniel being trapped under the ground had brought it all back to the surface.
I took a deep breath and as soon as my heartbeat slowed down, the alarm went off and sent it skyrocketing again.
