Truth be Told

*Micah POV*  God, I didn't want that kiss to end. I didn't want this night to end but I couldn't lie to her anymore. I went to the alcohol cabinet and poured me a glass of Whiskey and her a glass of wine. We were going to need this to get through the night.  "Here. You'll thank me later." I handed the glass to a very confused Jayce. She had the right to know.  "What is this, Micah? What's going on? You have a girlfriend? That's what it is. You know what? I'm leaving. Have a great life." "Wait! Trust me, there is nobody but you. I swear on my life. Jayce, please sit down." She slowly walked back over to the sofa and sat back down. I joined her and tried to hold her hand, but she pulled it away from me. "Talk!" That hurt. She was mad. Mad at me. Mad at the betrayal she doesn't even know has happened yet. "Ok look. You know this town in off. You know we have a large wolf population." "Yea a huge wolf PROBLEM!" "Ok, ok, I get it. There is a huge secret this town is hiding, and you deserve to know the truth. This isn't just a regular old town. This is pack lands. I don't know how it has been hidden from you for so long, but you need to have a serious talk with your brother." "What does Jackson have to do with anything? You know what? I'll just have him come over. How's that sound?" "Honestly, great. But he is already on his way." On cue the doorbell rang. Jayce looked at me then back at the door. "But how? Your phone has been next to me the entire time." "It will all make sense soon. I promise. Just promise me one thing. Promise me you won't leave me and hear us out, ok? It's a lot to take in but I promise, I will never do anything to hurt you and I will never leave you." She nodded as her brother came into the living room. "Hey sis. I've got some explaining to do too. This isn't just on Micah. We were kind of hoping you would figure it out in time, but you haven't. Just keep an open mind." She nodded at her brother then reached for my hand before giving it a squeeze. "Like I said, this is pack lands. We are all shifters. Even you. How in the world your wolf hasn't tried to make herself known is beyond me. You might have noticed certain things in the past few weeks. Increased hearing, sense of smell, hunger, certain...feelings. Those will continue to increase until your wolf makes herself known on your 18th birthday. When that happens, you will be able to find your mate. When I tell you that you are my one and only, I mean it. There is literally nobody in the entire world I would live my life with. You are my mate Jayce. I will be by your side when you turn 18, you will see what I see when I look at you. Love, adoration and complete devotion." I looked at Jayce. Looking for any idea as to what she was thinking. She hasn't let go of my hand so that's a bonus.  "The wolf I see in the woods. It's you, isn't it?" She's a smart girl. "Yes, my love. If I'm not able to walk you home, I follow you from a distance in my wolf form. I can track you easier. As my mate, you are a target. I have to make sure you get home safe. If something were to happen to you, it would all but kill me." Jayce looked up at me, then to her brother. "Ok Jackson, what about you? Why didn't you tell me? Did mom and dad tell you not to?" Jackson looked uncomfortable. "I haven't found my mate yet. Some people find them right away and some have to wait. As for mom and dad, they wanted you to live a life as close to normal as possible. I'm sorry sis." "Well, this has been enlightening to say the absolute f*****g least. So, wait, when you said I smelled good the other night, it wasn't because of your soap. I have a distinct smell, don't I? That's how you 'track' me isn't it?" "Yes. Strawberries and cream. Why do you think I chose that for our dessert tonight?" She laughed and I finally relaxed a bit. Jackson excused himself and went home. "So, too late for a movie? Wait! You said when I turn 18. That's in less than an hour! Micah!" I looked at the clock. We had 10 minutes. I moved to her and gave her a hug. "Let's go out back. If your wolf is anything like you, she will let you know she's here pretty quick. I won't lie. That first shift hurts like a b***h. I'll be right here. I'll need you to shift back as soon as possible. You have a lot to learn still, ok?" Jayce nodded as the clock hit midnight. Our lives would forever change, and I couldn't be more nervous and excited at the same time.
