(000) Prologue
“We’ll be fine, right?”
The car takes a hard turn, as if he wants to throw me out through the door. “Of course,” he says, but his sarcastic tone implies otherwise.
“Gael,” I plead lightly. “We both didn’t want this to happen. But we’re trapped. We should remain friends, at least.”
His eyes remain trained on the road. If he weren’t mad, I would have appreciated the tux he’s wearing and how it’s complimenting his overall features. “Friends? Do you remain friends with the person who ruined your life?”
The words almost make me flinch but I keep steady as I place a hand on my tummy. “Gael–“
“Just shut up, Layla!” His angry shout resonates in the car and I take a sharp breath before mumbling a small apology. I turn to the window and watch the rainy backdrop, trying to blink away my tears.
In no time, we arrive in a two-story mansion and as soon as the car stops, Gael hands over the keys to the butler and stomps his way inside. One of the maids, a kind-looking lady who looks like she’s in her mid-forties, gives me a sad look while her colleagues refuse to meet my eyes. I try to smile at her. “Married life, huh?”
