The gray wolf stepped in front of me and shook his head. I took that as a “go no further.” Lanie tightened her grip on my arm and it began to tingle. The gray wolf eyed me before crouching and walking toward the direction of the camp site. It was silent as we waited in the woods. The gray wolf disappeared up ahead. I pulled my arm out of Lanie’s grasp and stepped in front of her. I walked toward the camp and Lanie followed a few feet behind me. The scent of blood filled the air. My heart raced at the smell. My legs moved quicker until I was jogging. I touched the oak tree from earlier and closed my eyes. The metallic blood smell caught in my throat. It choked the air.
