Chapter1
BRIELLE "Choose," the rogue leader growled, pointing between Lucy and me. "You can only save one. I turned to Adrian as my heart raced. He had to choose me. I was his mate. We were married. But his jaw tightened, and then he said the words that broke me. “I choose Lucy.” He didn't even hesitate. He looked at me with complete disgust, like I was trash under his shoe. My breath caught in my throat. “What?” I whispered. Lucy sniffled beside him. “I…I’m carrying his child,” she said softly, like she was the one in pain. “Let Brielle go… please.” Lies. She was lying. She always lied. "Please, Adrian," Lucy sobbed, though I could see the satisfaction on her face. "Don't be so cruel to her. She's still your wife." "Unfortunately," Adrian sneered. "But not for much longer. I should have ended this joke of a marriage years ago." My heart shattered into a million pieces. “You bastard!” I screamed, shaking my finger at him. “You’re going to let them kill me? After everything?” The rope around my wrists burned like fire, but not as much as his words. "Lucy is carrying my child," he announced proudly, pulling her close. "She’s my real mate, not some weakling from a dying pack." Lucy looked right into my eyes and smiled. It was a cold, cruel smile that told me everything I needed to know. “Adrian, please save me,” I begged out of desperation. “Stop,” Adrian said harshly, and suddenly, I felt the pull of the mate bond as it hit me. My body froze, my limbs trembled and then I couldn’t move. Adrian just used the mate bond to paralyze me! “You used me,” I said, choking on my words. “Lucy and her parents caused my father’s death. They poisoned my brother and made him go mute. They drove my mother insane and took over my pack. You destroyed my whole family. And now you’re handing me over to rogues?” Adrian looked away. I kept going. “Lucy’s working with them, Adrian. She's lying to you! She's been working with them this whole time!" The rogues suddenly laughed. Then one of them grabbed Lucy by the hair and pulled her roughly to the floor. “What are you doing?” Adrian yelled. “She’s the one we want, not her,” the rogue said, spitting in my direction. “Lucy’s got more value.” “No! Leave her!” Adrian shouted. Lucy whimpered as tears rolled down her face. “Don’t… don’t worry about me, Adrian. I’ll see you and our baby in the next life. I deserve this. After all, I’m the sinner who fell in love with my brother-in-law.” I snorted. “You deserve worse.” Adrian turned to me with hate in his eyes. “You never knew how to shut up.” Then he made his final choice. “Let Lucy go and take her,” he said, pointing at me. “But you have to promise not to come after us.” “Deal,” the leader of the rogues said, laughing harshly. “No! Adrian, don’t walk away!” I screamed, but he didn’t turn around. Not even once. The rogues laughed as Adrian and Lucy disappeared into the night. Then they turned to me, and that was when I knew I was going to die. They beat me. Tortured me. And then they killed me. Pain exploded through my body as darkness finally claimed me. Then I opened my eyes. I gasped and sprang up, clutching my chest. My body was trembling. I was sweating. My heart was pounding like a drum in my ears. But I wasn’t tied up. I wasn’t bleeding. I looked around, blinking. I could recognize this building anywhere. I was… in the Werewolf Academy. What the hell? I grabbed my phone and saw the date. I’d been reborn on my 18th birthday. No way. This was the day I confessed to Adrian. The day he humiliated me in front of the whole Werewolf Academy. I stood up slowly and walked to the mirror. My face looked the same, though now it looked younger and softer in a way. But my eyes? They weren’t the same. Not anymore. I had died. And now I was back. *** "Are you seriously going to do this here?" someone whispered behind me. I blinked in confusion. I was standing in the main hallway of the academy, surrounded by students who were all staring at me with barely concealed excitement. "Brielle's really going to confess to Adrian," another person giggled. "This is going to be so embarrassing.” The hallway buzzed with gossip. “She’s really going to do it.” “Adrian is going to shut her down, big time.” My hands shook slightly as I looked around. There was Marcus from one of my classes, grinning like this was better than any movie. Sarah was recording everything with her phone. Even the younger students had gathered to watch my humiliation. Because that's what this was supposed to be. In my past life, I’d stood here and poured my heart out to Adrian, begging him to love me. He had rejected me in front of everyone, and I'd spent the next three years trying to win him over. Three years that led to my death. "Where is he?" I heard myself ask, though my voice sounded strange to my own ears. "There!" someone pointed. Adrian walked into the courtyard like he owned the entire academy. His brown hair was perfectly styled, and his handsome face had that arrogant smirk I knew so well. He moved with the confidence of someone who had never been told 'no' in his life. Behind him, Lucy followed with her usual fake innocent smile. My cousin. She caught my eye and waved. "Good luck, Brielle! I'm rooting for you!" The crowd "awwed" at her sweetness. If only they knew what she truly was. Adrian stopped in front of me, looking me up and down like I was something unpleasant he had stepped in. "So the little Silver Moon princess finally worked up the courage to confess? How predictable." His tone was so condescending that it made everyone around us shift uncomfortably. But they all stayed to watch. "Let me save you some time," he continued, crossing his arms. "Whatever pathetic speech you've prepared, I'm not interested. You're weak, your pack is weak, and honestly, you're not even that pretty." A few people in the crowd winced. Even for Adrian, that was harsh. In my past life, this was when I'd gotten on my knees and begged him to give me a chance. When I'd promised to be a better mate, to make him happy, and do anything he wanted. Not this time. "Are you done?" I asked calmly. Adrian blinked. Clearly, he hadn’t expected that response. "What?" “I’m not here to confess,” I said simply. The crowd gasped. This wasn't going how they had expected. "You heard me." I stepped closer, ignoring the way everyone leaned in to catch every word. "I'm done chasing after someone who clearly doesn't want me.” "You can't be serious," Adrian sputtered. "You can't just—" "Watch me." "Brielle!" Adrian grabbed my arm. "You can't do this. What will people think?" I looked down at his hand on my arm, then back up at his face. "I think they will assume I finally came to my senses,” I replied hotly. Everyone went quiet. Even Lucy looked confused. "But... but you love me," Adrian said, and for the first time, he actually looked uncertain. I almost laughed. "Love you? Adrian, I wouldn't love you if you were the last wolf on earth." The statement came so easily to me because it was the truth. Yes, I had loved him with everything I had. Right up until the moment he chose Lucy over me and left me to die. "This is crazy," Lucy said, coming to stand beside me. "Brielle, you're not thinking clearly. You've wanted this for so long—" "Have I?" I turned to face her, and she actually took a step back. Good. I started to walk away, but Adrian's voice stopped me. "If it weren't for your father, I wouldn't be here!" he shouted. "Stop dreaming; I will never like you!" I turned back slowly, and a smile spread across my face. "Good. I don't like you anymore either. Let's call off the engagement!" Adrian’s face changed. “What are you talking about?” “I’m saying it’s over. I’m done. I don’t want to be engaged to you anymore.” People gasped. Someone even dropped their drink. “You’re joking,” Lucy said. “Brielle, don’t embarrass yourself.” I turned to her. “Relax, Lucy. You still have him. For now.” Adrian frowned, stepping closer. “You think you can just walk away?” “Didn’t you just say you’d never like me?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. “I’m just saving you the trouble of rejecting me.” His mouth opened, but nothing came out. I turned to leave, but then I paused. I looked around at all the shocked faces staring at us. "Show's over, everyone. There’s nothing more to see here." The crowd erupted into chaos as I walked away, leaving Adrian standing there with his mouth hanging open. I smiled. Let the game begin.
