A Morticians Table

1489 Words
The severity of the cold was so intense that Siin could feel his spine beginning to harden up in frost. And just like a bad dream he sprang up on the table which the mortitian had placed him on. At first his iced brain could not decode the information been transferred by his eyes in relation to the strange sorrounding. But after a few seconds and a couple of deep breaths, he realized he was in a mortuary and had been laid among several of other corpses. The atmosphere bore an icy aura as most of the organic matters he could see where frozen. By his left was a table on which a man in his late fifties lay dead. He was covered in white nylon sheet and bore a name tag on his toe that carried vital information about him. His greatly ematiated physique, prompted Siin to conclude that the dead man may have been a victim of a fatal illness which was rather protracted than brief. Next to the man , Was a figure beneath the nylon sheet, and it appeared to be that of a young child. Siin felt an urge to see who it was that lay dead on the mortician table. He ganered all the energy in his nearly frozen veins and walked towards the Corpse of the dead child, wrapping the nylon across his himself not to Wade off the cold but to provide secrecy to his body. Soon he was before the corpse of the Child and slowly slided the nylon that was over the childs face . From the face of the corpse , he could tell that it was a young boy within the ages of six and seven. The eyes of the child had sunk deep into the eyes socket . A feat that was caused not by the aftermath of death but rather the epoch of a Sickly life. " Poor Child, Sleep in heavenly peace and awake only in the most beautiful of gardens." Said Sin as he slowly and compassionatly drew back the nylon sheet to cover the childs face. The sight of the dead child had put him in a trans_like mode and he kept on visiting one corpse to another as if paying homage to their souls. Even Siin could could not understand what he was doing inside a mortuary and neither could he explain the close affinity he felt for the corpses that lay motionless amidts the freezing cold. He could not bring himself to recall the cause of him , waking up in a mortuary and what startled him the most was his lack of fear towards the strange looking corpses that lay in dozens across the freezing hall. The Ambience was of total silence unless for the whistling sounds of the freezers that blew thin frost different direction. The hall would have been eloped in pitch darkness had it not been for the rays of the white halogen light which illuminated the atmosphere amidst the haziness of dry frost that flew in the air. Siin  Still staggering about in his effeminate pilgrimage when his gaze caught the attention of a particular figure that lay at the extreme end of the hall. Unlike the figure of other Corpses this very one had a striking shape that set it apart from all other corpses he had paid homage to. It was the large protrusion on the stomach area of the corpse which was still covered under the nylon sheet , that caught the attention of Siin. He could tell it was the corpse of a pregnant woman who had died from causes he did not know about. Slowly and steadily , he walked to the corpse till he  stood just beside the table. He could see blood stains on the Nylon sheet which signified that the corpse was still fresh. Still in his frenzy of deep compassion, he slowly stretched his hand forward and gently drew the nylon sheet a little off the the corpse untill he could see the face of the pregnant woman that lay lifeless on the table. From her thin lips and blonde hair, Siin could tell she wasn't off arab descent. She was no doubt and European or a Caucasian in her early twenties. Her beauty was intact as even the cold hands of death, had fallen short in hiding her prettiness. Her blue eyes were still opened and they gazed sadly at the heavens above. What puzzled Siin the most was the tear drops that kept rolling down her eyes amidst the presence of the freezing cold. Her pretty young face bore all the shades of Sadness and dissatisfaction. Indeed one could tell that she had wanted more from life only to be outplayed by death which left  her helpless to circumstances beyond her control. However Siin felt otherwise as he stood gazing pitifully at the sight of the woman. " I can't give you life , but I will wipe your tears. May you and your unborn child awake in the most beautiful of gardens and live to path no more . " Said Siin in a emotional voice before gently wipinh off the tears on the icy cheeks of the young lady. Upon having contact with the young Lady tears, he realised it was still warm even though her cheeks felt as cold as ice. Siin was aghast for a moment gazing deeply at the corpse of the young lady ,in search of answers to the surprising phenomenon.  It didn't take him much seconds to decipher the possibility of what had been happening. " She's alive inside " gasped Siin in a rush of adrenaline. " Her baby. It's still alive " Said Siin almost in a whisper to himself. " Someone help .call us a doctor. The baby still lives in her." Said Siin at top of his voice which was rather low in pitch due to the lack of energy in his veins. He yanked off the Nylon sheet covering the young lady's stomach and he could see the protrusion on her belly. From the size of the belly. He concluded the child was not yet upto night month but was still some weeks past seven months. Upon having a closer view at her pregnancy, Siin was rather in shock to observe signs of motions on the surface of the baby bump . " The baby. It's really alive. " Said Siin with great joy and greater confusion. He turned and to locate the exit of the hall and felt a need to help the young lady, therrby turning back to her again in his state of confusion. Realising that he was helpless to her standing there , he turned again and this time around hurried towards the other edge of the hall to locate the exit. After series of frantic to and fro , he finally spotted a door that carried an exit sign on it . He hurried towards the door limping from one leg to another as both of his legs hurt him very much and he couldn't even remember why. All he could think of , at that moment was a way to call a doctors attention so that the baby inside the dead woman's womb could be saved before it got too late. " Help! . Someone should get me out of here . I need to call a doctor" he said . As he tapped the door frantically . In hope that someone would hear and open the door. Soon, he realized that no one could hear him and the baby couldn't come for long as temperature was fast dropping. It was only a matter of minutes before both mother and child get solidified in frost. Not knowing what else to do he crashed to the floor in a helpless outburst of sobs and turned towards the direction of the young pregnant woman. And just then, the instinctive urge which had caused him to pay homage to the corpses had urged him to save the baby by all means possible. " You shall not die. I shall save you young one. " Said Siin as his gaze hawked around the hall in search of a tool. Soon he saw a secluded region of the hall that carried a sign that read " Autopsy unit" by it's entry door. Siin quickly realize he could get incision tools to perform a cessarean surgery on the dead young lady so as to save the life of her baby. He quickly spranged up and rushed towards the Autopsy unit with all the speed and accuracy his aching legs could afford him. Just as expected, he found a series of incision tools which had been used and sterilised on a silver tray to dry up. Siin quickly grabbed hold of the potable blades and the next thing he needded was a towel.
