Rebirth
Ye Wanwan opened her eyes.
She met a pair of eyes that terrified her to the point where her soul seemed to tremble.
“Ah—”
The girl’s pale fingers suddenly clenched the blanket beneath her tightly.
She was forced to relive the pain once more.
Is this hell?
Why, after she had already died, was she back here, beside this demon once again?
Out of instinct, she resisted, shouting, “Don’t touch me!!!”
The man, as if touched on a tender spot, immediately darkened. His bloodthirsty face turned into a storm of fury, and his cold, razor-sharp lips descended with devastating ruthlessness, as if he intended to tear her apart and swallow her, bones and all.
Ye Wanwan was instantly overwhelmed by the pain, unable to think of anything else, only unconsciously murmuring, “Why… why me… Si Yejin… why does it have to be me…”
“Because, only you.”
The man’s deep, hoarse voice sounded in her ears, like a shackle, binding even her soul.
Hearing the same answer as in her past life, Ye Wanwan fell into unconsciousness completely.
……
When Ye Wanwan opened her eyes again, the world outside the window had already shifted from night to day.
The air was filled with a refreshing floral fragrance, and the warm sunlight of the morning poured through the window, naturally relaxing her mood.
However, the next moment, Ye Wanwan’s nerves instantly tightened.
A powerful sense of oppression spread throughout the entire room as the man awoke.
The arm around her waist tightened suddenly, and she was pulled into the man’s embrace like a pillow.
“Still trying to escape?”
A chilling voice sounded by her ear.
Out of instinct for survival, Ye Wanwan subconsciously shook her head vigorously.
The man seemed unsure whether to believe her or not, his gaze lingering on her face for a moment, always radiating a dangerous signal.
Ye Wanwan, like a deer caught by the neck, dared not move an inch.
Time passed, though how long, she couldn’t tell. Eventually, the man finally loosened his grip on her.
He got out of bed, the light behind him outlining his tall, lean figure and slender waist.
This fleeting scene was over almost immediately, as the man quickly picked up the clothes beside the bed. His long fingers meticulously buttoned the shirt, fastening the first button at the collar.
His face, which had been as ferocious as a wild beast moments ago, now appeared cold and indifferent, without a trace of human warmth.
It wasn’t until the sound of the door closing that Ye Wanwan’s tense nerves finally relaxed.
Only then could she begin to properly assess her current situation.
She slowly scanned the surroundings, and then her eyes fell on the mirror of the vanity across from her, where she saw the familiar yet unfamiliar version of herself.
In the mirror, the smokey makeup on her face had been smeared by tears and sweat, and her body was covered with grotesque, bloody tattoos.
To escape Si Yejin, she had deliberately turned herself into this ugly, repulsive appearance.
She actually… really had been reborn…
In that instant, overwhelming fear and despair almost suffocated her.
She had returned to that night when Si Yejin, in a fit of rage, had punished her for trying to escape!
Why…
Why did she have to return to seven years ago?
Even if she had to die, she never wanted to come back here, to be beside this man again.
She had lost her lover, her family, her dignity, her sense of self—she had lost everything.
Was she really going to go through all of this again?
