My first breath hits me like a shock. Air floods my lungs, sharp and cold, dragging me out of the dark void all at once. My body jolts upward before I understand what is happening. A broken gasp tears from my throat. My entire chest aches as if someone carved space inside it just to force life back in. My eyes snap open. Silver tears blur my vision.
