The cavern gives way all at once. Roots snap. Silver vines whip through the air like torn ribbons. Stone fractures. The ground beneath us buckles and collapses into a spiraling storm of silver shards that scatter upward instead of down, as if gravity has forgotten how to exist. Everything becomes impossible. Adam wraps both arms around me, pulling my body beneath his. He shields my head with his chest and curls over me as the world falls apart. He snarls through gritted teeth, every muscle locked tight as fractured stone and snapping roots rain down from every direction. But nothing touches us.
