Cara's POV I couldn't sleep. The bed was comfortable enough for me to doze off immediately I lay down, but the problem was that the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack was sleeping on the floor beside the bed. I could hear him breathing as he slept, every time I turned, every time the mattress creaked, I wondered if I'd woken him. The incident earlier kept replaying in my mind. The way his face had flushed, the way he'd shoved something into his pocket so quickly I almost didn't catch a glimpse. He wasn't slick at all and besides, I wasn't stupid—I knew what the old woman had given him, the thought made heat crawl up my neck. I stared at the ceiling, counting cracks in the plaster and ventually, exhaustion won. My eyelids grew heavy, and my thoughts were blurry and then I finally slept off. *
