“Cara, from now henceforth, I'll be your eyes. I don't care how you do it all these while but I'm never letting you out of my sight.”She opened her mouth to protest but I pressed my thumb over her lips softly. “Sssh, it's not debatable, Cara. I'll go with you to gather herbs. You're not permitted to step out of this cave without me. Am I understood?”She stared at me, her lips slightly parted.I didn't know where that boldness came from. Maybe it's from the heartache that something could have happened to her out there and she might not be able to defend herself, while I'm just here doing little or nothing.I don't care if she asks me to leave for speaking to her this way. But one thing is for certain—I'm never letting her out of my sight.

**********

She was the blind daughter of a fallen Alpha, reborn from tragedy with a healer’s gift and a heart full of vengeance.

She hid in the mountains to heal her blinded eyes and avenge her destroyed tribe.

The day she saved a poisoned stranger, she unknowingly found her mate without knowing they were fated.

He loved her in his amnesia, protected her, and made her believe in warmth again.

But when he regained his memories,

he forgot about her and their memories together.

She never expected to meet him again—

not as the ruthless Alpha everyone feared.

Not as the man she must serve as his healer.

Not as the stranger who feels heartbreakingly familiar.

He doesn’t remember their love.

She doesn’t know he was the man she loved.

But fate remembers.

And fate never lets go.

Together they'll face betrayal, war and the shadows of their past…

And only love strong enough to survive death will lead them to the truth.

Chapter 1: The Ruin
“Run, Cara, save yourself!” My mother's scream tore through the chaos as she tried to fight off the wolf that had lunged itself at her. I'd never heard her sound so terrified and desperate like that before. I couldn't move. I stood rooted there glaring, with eyes wide open, lips shaking and fingers trembling. I watched as my mother pulled out a silver knife and drove it into the thick dark fur of the wolf. The wolf howled in pain but that didn't defer him—rather it seemed to have infuriated it further. His yellow eyes got brighter, angrier. He looked at her like he wanted to rip her apart. With the back of his paw, he flung my mother hard across the room. She hit the wall with a loud crack and coughed out some blood. “Mo…mother,” my tight throat finally gave way. The wolf instantly turned his attention to me. With his fangs outstretched and his claws out, he began moving towards my direction. I tried to take a step back, but instead, I stepped on my long dress, crashing on the floor, my heart thudding loudly in my chest. I could see different houses in the pack from the small window in the room being burnt down. I could hear different shouts and screams as the Black Moon tribe brought my tribe, the Red Moon tribe to utter ruin. As the wolf got closer, I shut my eyes, wondering if this was how I was going to die—on my 18th birthday. Suddenly a loud growl tore through the beast and my eyes immediately snapped open. I saw that my mother had managed to get up and had thrown herself on the wolf and bit off one ear of its ear. “Now, Cara, run… and don't look back!” I saw the seriousness and plea in my mother's eyes as she struggled with the thrashing wolf. Something in me snapped and I rose up from my feet, my legs still shaking. The wolf raised his paw again to throw mother off, but she was prepared this time. She dodged his hit and began to transform. I didn't want to leave. I didn't know if I would ever see my mother again. But the next moment, I found myself running. My feet pushing me forward, my heart a disaster as I felt like a coward, abandoning my mother. My mother's words, telling me not to look back echoed in my head even as I heard a loud estranged scream. "MOTHER!” I almost turned around— No. Don't look. Don't look. Don't look. Tears blurred my vision but I didn't stop. I couldn't. I ran past the packhouse that was covered in flames. Past the bodies on the ground. People I knew. People I grew up with—my family. I ran into the forest. I still hadn't gotten my wolf. I could only run as my legs could carry me—thank the goddess for my years of training. I ran until I couldn't run anymore and found myself at a cliff. I stopped hard, almost falling over the edge, my arms flailing. Rocks tumbled down into the darkness. I couldn't even see the bottom. My heart jumped into my throat. I turned around, looking for another way out. But I could barely see anything in the dark. Suddenly I felt movement. A snap of twigs. My head snapped towards the sound. My heart thudded loudly against my chest as I realized I wasn't alone. I hadn't escaped. My nails bit hard into my palm. No, I can't die here. I can't let the sacrifices of my parents and tribesmen be in vain. I must live to reclaim my pack and avenge their deaths. I looked around again seeking a means of escape—but there was none, because at that moment, one of black moon soldiers cornered me. I would rather fight. I told myself, taking a combat stance as I lifted my gaze to the enemy. “Tsk, tsk, tsk,” he clicked his tongue in a mocking manner, his voice laced with disgust. “Is the princess of the Red Moon tribe, trying to escape her horrible fate?” I lifted my head, my chin set and defiant. He was alone and quite easy for me to take down, but then again, I have one challenge—my dress. He chuckled darkly. “You're such a coward, trying to run away while the carcass of your parents and tribesmen are laying unceremoniously at your pack.” That did it. All the emotions I had been trying to bottle up, all came rushing to the surface. I screamed and charged at him. He smirked as if that was exactly what he was waiting for. Just then, a dark glint passed across his eyes and before I could reach him, he was right in front of me—his speed, I didn't see coming. I raised my fist to hit him, but he caught it, twisted my wrist easily and threw me back like I was just a piece of paper. My back scratched the rough ground of the cliff as I skidded backward from the force of his push. Rocks tore through my dress and into my skin. My head wheezed in pain. And I bit my lips hard from screaming out. I saw rocks fall off the cliff and my heart pounded at how close I was from falling off. My head was already hanging over the edge of the cliff, only my body was what was still keeping me on that cliff. Before I could catch my breath, the intruder was by my side like a flash of light, his hand fisted on my neck. I clawed at his wrist, trying to gasp for air. More rocks fell off the cliff from my struggle and I made the mistake of looking down. The bottomless pit made my throat tighten and my eyes stung with tears. “Let…me…go…” I struggled to cough out. His smirk widened. “Of course, Princess,” For a second I thought he was going to let me go. But just then, like a flash, he lifted a small silver knife. My heart froze. Not just because of the silver. But because I could smell wolfsbane on it. He didn't want me to survive. His gaze darkened as he stared at the blade, a sly smirk that sent shivers down my spine, tugged at his lips. Even in the dark, the blade glinted. “I like the eyes,” he whispered behind my ear. Before I could process what he meant, I felt a sharp pain in my eyes. I screamed so loud my throat hurt. I struggled with him but I couldn't even see a single thing—I had gone blind and I was no match for him. “Die you b***h!” He swore angrily as his foot hit my forehead, pushing me down the cliff. “Noooooo!!!!!!” I jolted up from my bed, beads of sweat covered my forehead and my body was also drenched. I couldn't breathe properly. My shaky hands flew to my face, to my eyes. Same horrible nightmare again. I can't remember the last time I had a peaceful night sleep without nightmares. Nightmares of my 18th birthday celebration. Nightmares of when the Black Moon tribe invaded my tribe and brought it to ruin. Nightmares of watching the Alpha of Black Moon murder my father and his soldiers. Nightmares of my mother's painful scream, yet I kept running to safety. Nightmares of losing my sight. They all never end. The only good thing I got out of that day was, Mia—my wolf. When I thought I was going to die—when I thought all hope was lost as my wrecked body laid at the bottom of that cliff, breathing my last, Mia awakened, and with her awakening, came a surge of power and energy I've never seen before. My weakened body started gaining strength. My broken bones started aligning. “Hang on, Cara. I'm Mia, your wolf. I'm sorry I came late, but I'm here now,” Her voice was calm and steady like an anchor. “Mia” I whispered softly as tears slid down my face. It wasn't tears of pain, rather it was tears of hope. The moon goddess hadn't let me die. She had given me another chance to carry out my revenge. “I'm sorry I can't heal your eyes right now because of the wolfsbane, but I'll teach you all you need to do to draw the poison out.” Her voice was soothing. I might have lost my family and my parents today, but I'm not alone anymore. Mia wasn't just a regular wolf. I've been blessed with a healer wolf. My mother was from the descendants of great healers but she wasn't lucky enough to be blessed with one. She was skipped and I got the gift. Mia also felt hurt and grieved the parents and family she never got to meet and run with, and together we started planning our revenge. We didn't return to town. We couldn't risk them finding out I was still alive before I could regain my sight. So for months, we made the mountain our home and the journey to restore my sight began. BOOOOOOOOM!!! I jolted, the explosion pulling me away from my line of thoughts and back to reality. My body reacted before my mind caught up—I was on my feet instantly, heart thundering in my chest so hard I could feel it in my throat. “What was that sound?” I asked no one in particular. My hands shook in panic. Had they found me? After all this time, could they have found out I was still alive?
