Uriel's POV
I chose to see this plane crash as a blessing. It brought me to an angel I wouldn't have known existed in the mountains.
From the very first day I opened my eyes to find that beautiful pair of sea blue eyes staring at me, I had been thrown into momentary silence.
My heart raced like I had run a marathon. Her lush brown hair flowed around her, cupping her face like a beautiful frame.
I tried to recall who she was but I realized I had no memory of her. No memory of anything at all.
Could she be my girlfriend, or even my wife? The thought left me elated, not minding the pain in my throat.
But when she introduced herself as a reclusive healer who just found me on the mountain and offered her help, I felt a total sense of loss. She wasn't mine. She was going to leave too and I'll be all alone.
Then she asked me to stay for further treatment and I agreed without delay.
She might not be mine yet, but I could still make her mine.
I'd leave a strong impression on her, she’d find it difficult to ask me to leave. I don't mind being her assistant and living with her on this mountain.
Not as if I had anyone who cared about me out there.
I just woke up to see that she had left as usual. I quickly dressed the room, prepared what we'll eat when she returns and went to take my bath.
I had been very mindful of my appearance since the day I was able to move around again. A beautiful lady like her will definitely want a handsome man—like me.
I smiled at my reflection in the mirror. My dark curly hair was brushed backwards. A frown immediately appeared on my face. I don't think she'll like it. I looked like one of those cold, serious kings you see in movies.
Without hesitation, my fingers brushed through my hair, ruffling out the curls like she normally does anytime she touched my head.
A soft smile played on my lips at the memory.
Just then, I heard soft footsteps. I took a final glance at the mirror, my golden eyes staring back at me.
My heart raced as I rushed to open the door. Cara was standing there with more bags than usual.
My brow furrowed as I collected everything from her. “You could have asked me to come along with you when you knew you were going to get many things.”
She sighed tiredly, sitting down on the bed. “It's nothing, Uriel.”
I rushed to get her a glass of water. My fingers brushed hers lightly as I handed the glass, sending a jolt of electricity through me.
She smiled softly and slowly drank the water. “Thank you.”
I nodded my head, afraid that my voice would come out wrong.
She picked up one of the bags and opened it. My eyes widened as I saw she got male clothes.
“Cara are those mine?” I asked softly.
She nodded her head. “I didn't know which one is your style so I got different styles. I hope you see the one you like.”
“Thank you, Cara.” I held her hands softly, my eyes showing how grateful I was that she even thought about me. “I love all of them.”
“Then try them on,” she smiled back.
I stood up and picked the black shirt she got. “As you wish, princess. Don't get too stunned when you can't handle my dazzleness.”
She laughed hard, the sound like feathers to my heart, sending heat up my face.
A few seconds later, I came out still buttoning my shirt. “What do you think Cara, does the color suit me?”
She lifted her head and stared at me. “The color?” She squinted her brow.
My heart dropped at her expression. Does it mean she didn't like this one?
“I'll take this off. I don't think it looks good,”
“No, no, no, It really suits you.” She said, but I wasn't convinced, her earlier expression wasn't that of someone who was dazzled.
I smiled. “Don't worry, I think you'll like the next one better.”
She opened her mouth as if to say something, but then shut it shortly after.
I knew she didn't like the shirt. “Can you please pass me the navy blue shirt, let me try it on.”
She squinted her brows again as she stared hard at the clothes in her arm. Her eyes could have bore holes in those clothes.
“Uhm…Uriel, please which of them is navy blue?” she asked softly and confused.
“The one in—” I paused, realizing something and blinked at her. “What do you mean which one is navy blue? It's right there in your hand.”
“I…I know, but I can't tell which is it.”
My brow drew together as I stepped closer to her. “What do you mean Cara?” My voice dropped.
Her face dropped and the room fell quiet but I kept looking at her face, waiting for her to answer my question. She finally did.
“I'm blind Uriel.”
My breath was knocked off.
“You…you're blind?”
She nodded her head.
I stood stunned, mouth wide open in disbelief as I stared at those beautiful ocean blue eyes.
“Like you can't see me? You don't know what I look like?”
She shook her head.
My heart ached. She was blind all these while? How's that even possible?
Damnit, so all those efforts of trying to impress her were for nothing? How was I supposed to win her heart when she can't even see how good looking and charming I am?
Just then, something struck.
“But…but how are you able to move freely? You don't move like a blind—I mean…” I quickly corrected myself. “...like some who can't see. You don't even make use of any aid while moving.”
I paused, taking a close, suspicious look at her. “Are you trying to pull my legs, Cara?”
She raised her brow slightly. “Are you disappointed that I'm blind?”
“Yes. I mean, no. Oh God, come on Cara,”
Of course I'm not disappointed in her condition. Just the fact that she couldn't see me.
Cara didn't answer. She just stood up, brushed past me, walking as elegant as always as she went to drop the clothes.
“That…” I pointed, “...that isn't how someone who can't see walks. How could you say you're blind when you walk even better than me?” I didn't know if I should cry. This girl was driving me insane.
A slow smile tugged at the corner of her lips. She's laughing. She's actually laughing. She finds my situation amusing.
At this moment I should as well just cry.
“I've my way of navigating through, Uriel.” She said finally, like that was supposed to make everything clearer.
I opened my mouth to speak but she beat me to it.
“Don't push further. This is all I can say for now.”
Her countenance dropped and her eyes were filled with hurt and sadness like she was trying so hard not to remember something.
My heart tightened immediately seeing her like this. The urge to pull her into my arms and comfort her was so strong, but I couldn't. I don't know if she feels the same way for me as I feel for her.
I could only cuss at myself for hurting her.
My hands dropped weakly by my sides. “I'm sorry, Cara. I didn't mean to open any sad wounds.”
She smiled and nodded her head, but that smile didn't reach her eyes. My heart clenched at the sight.
Damnit, Uriel, see what you've done.
Before I could stop myself, I was already behind her. I held her arm and slowly turned her to face me.
She looked up at me with those beautiful blue eyes. I stared deep into them, and for the first time, I noticed the emptiness.
Something pulled at me—I wanted to be the one to fill them.
My hand went up her face, lightly brushing those beautiful eyes. I felt her draw in a sharp breath.
“God, you're so beautiful, Cara.”
Before I could stop myself or whatever was pushing me, I leaned down and kissed her eyes.
She froze, her body rigid against mine. I could feel her heart race, and it sent a tingling sensation through my body.
Her eyes slowly drifted shut as my lips lingered on those eyes. The kiss was soft, gentle, sweet and slow.
“Cara…” my voice came out husky as I finally withdrew my lips but refused to pull back. I held onto her waist, my lips softly brushing against her forehead.
Her eyes were still shut, her chest rising and falling as she tried to steady her breath.
“Cara, please look at me.” I whispered softly and she did. The moment those eyes were opened, it knocked the breath out of me.
Her eyes…they were glowing. I got lost in them for a moment.
“Cara, from now henceforth, I'll be your eyes. I don't care how you do it all these while but I'm never letting you out of my sight.”
She opened her mouth to protest but I pressed my thumb over her lips softly. “Sssh, it's not debatable, Cara. I'll go with you to gather herbs. You're not permitted to step out of this room without me. Am I understood?”
She stared at me, her lips slightly parted.
I didn't know where that boldness came from. Maybe it's from the heartache that something could have happened to her out there and she might not be able to defend herself, while I'm just here doing little or nothing.
I don't care if she asks me to leave for speaking to her this way.
But one thing is for certain—I'm never letting her out of my sight.
