I disregard what my cousin told me and continue the rest of my class. The rain suddenly poured down dampening my mood. I hate rain, I don’t want to be wet but it reminds me of sad memories.
Using my headphone I listen to IU’s Bbi bbi. I have mix favorites of music and today is Korean songs day. Forgetting the gloomy feeling I started to hum the song and secretly dance the song lightly.
As the song ended I sit near the bench waiting for my cousin. As I stared in the space a shadow stood in front of me. I blinked and saw the ghost girl smiling at me.
“Hello.” She greeted. I sighed and looked sideways to check my surroundings, I saw a few students leaving the premises. I took off my headphones and place my mobile in my ear as if I was talking to someone on my phone.
“How can I help you?” I stared at her. She looks so pretty and clean for a ghost. Usually the ghost I encounter are mostly covered with bloods or drenched in the water, not pretty to the eyes like her. And they would feel like a true ghost but not her. That’s why I mistook her for a living human.
She grinned and sits beside me. “I knew it! You saw me a while ago!” she hold my hand “Do you know how lonely I am? To accept the fact that I can never talk with someone who’s living again only to meet and speak with you!” she gushed.
“Whoa whoa. Hold it up there!” I stopped her. Her appearance does not match on her energy.
“Oops sorry.” She apologized. “I never spoke with someone before so it pours now.”
“How can I help you?” I repeated. This is one of my secret. Helping the ghosts so they can pass over. Four years ago I hated how I can see the ghosts, it took me a while to accept this as a gift and not a curse.
Alex helped me to accept it and understand that helping ‘them’ pass over will help me to fully understand it. He is the only one who knows my secret.
He is the only one I can fully trust on my secret.
“You remember your partner in Literature class?” she asked breaking in my reverie.
“Oh yeah that jerk!” I replied frowning.
“Well yeah that ‘jerk’ is the reason why I can’t pass over.” She answered solemnly.
“Can you tell me why?” I asked.
“He needs saving. Please help him.” She pleaded.
“How can I help him?”
“I.. I don’t know.” She replied sadly. “But I can feel that he deeply regret something and that causes him to change.”
“Who is he to you that you can’t go?” I asked some ghost can’t go if they have lingering feeling in this world. Lifting their regrets and sorrows helps them to cross over.
“He is someone I deeply cared about.” She smiled and look at her left. I followed her gaze and saw the boy she’s asking for help riding his motorcycle and drive away.
“Hi. I’m Sunny, I’m a friend of your grandson and he asked me to give you this.” I handed an old letter and a small gift box.”
She read the letter and smiled but when she open her gift – a locket with a photo of her and her grandson she cried deeply holding the necklace on her chest.
“Thank you Sunny, I didn’t know that he felt sorry for me all this time when all I thought he was ashamed of me.”
“He loved you deeply and he felt sorry that he can’t show that to you.” I smiled at her relaying what Jimmy her grandson really feels.
I hugged her to comfort and saw Jimmy smiling and slowly fade away.
I smiled at him one last time as thanked me.
I entered Nancy’s after a while and sat on the opposite chair of Alex.
“You’re done?” he asked licking his ice cream with flavors: Strawberry Cheesecake, Caramel and Pistachio.
“Yep.” I replied stealing some of his food.
“Is there something wrong?” he asked.
I sighed. “Someone asked for help today.”
“Who? You are usually about it.”
“She asked me to help someone difficult.” I said looking at the window and knew right away that I shouldn’t.
The ghost girl is looking at me panic is in her eyes.
She poked her head through the glass.
“Please help him!” she pleaded.
“What happened?” I asked looking at her then outside.
The rain is still strongly pouring outside.
“Hades, he needs you! He’s dying.” She said and tried to hold my hand pulling me outside.
“Wait, wait I can’t go through there. I’ll meet you outside.” I said urgently. I brought my bag and pick my sunflower umbrella to avoid the rain.
“Hey wait!” Alex shouted but I ran following the ghost girl.
I followed he figure and ran towards the alley at first I didn’t see anyone but the blood mixes on the water flows on the cement made my steps stop. I followed the blood trail and saw a man lying down on the floor. His eyes are slightly closed, his face contorts with pain as he hold his abdomen.
I gasped on his conditioned kneel in front of him.
I heard laughter far away from here followed by the sound of car drive away.
“My gosh! Are you okay?” I asked stupidly knowing fully well that it’s not.
He chuckled darkly, his eyes opened and stared at me. “Leave me.”
I frowned at him. “Are you crazy? No sane person will leave you if the saw you like this!” I scolded him and tried to call for an ambulance.
His blooded hand stops me on my tracks. “I don’t need your help.” He coldly said but I ignored him. Seeing his gorgeous face with his hazel eyes to his perfectly pointed nose down to his kissable lips ah no. Stupid Sunny I internally scold myself.
How can you admire someone who was stabbed?
Can’t I at least admire it for a little bit?
No! I should have a decency to help him first then admire him later.
My internal thoughts are fighting when the call push through.
I asked for help and told the place, now we can only do is wait.
“You should just leave me alone.” He said stubbornly.
Should I just stabbed him deeply? So he can passed out?
