Chapter One
I stifled another groan as I lolled my head back and forth. I was in Rebeka's sleek, shiny convertible, headed towards some party deep in the woods. I wanted to laugh at the irony of my situation, but I held it back. While I loved being in the woods, I loathed parties. I turned to face my best and only friend in the Thunder Bay Area of Ontario, Canada. We met a year ago when I'd stumbled into Sasha's Entertainment, a stripper joint, looking for work. The owner, Sasha, had taken one look at my B-cup breasts and laughed. Luckily, Rebekah had been nearby and took enough pity on me to let me know of a job down at Chet's café. We had exchanged numbers, and the rest was history. Now we live together in a tiny studio apartment downtown.
"How much longer, Bekah?" I groaned. I reached over and playfully tugged a lock of Rebekah's stick-straight blond hair. "Wait, did you actually put glitter in your hair?" I mocked as I continued my light tugging war with her head. Bekah swatted my hand away and glared at me with her dark blue eyes. Bekah was absolutely drop-dead gorgeous and had a new guy in the apartment every week. I was uncomfortable at first, but it eventually just became my new normal.
"We will be there in like five minutes, Kass. Fix your face before we get there and stop frowning so much." Bekah chided. I let out a breath as I reached for my small silver clutch. I hadn't wanted to bring it; it seemed absolutely useless to me with it being so tiny, but Bekah was having none of it. I opened the clutch and grabbed my powder, flipping the visor down so that I could see my face. After a quick touch-up, I dropped it back in the clutch, grabbed the feminist-colored matte glass, and applied some more. After smacking my lips, I turned to Bekah with my toothiest grin. Bekah barked out a laugh before turning her eyes back to the road. I turned to stare out my window and watched the white birch trees fly by as the sun started to make its descent across the sky. After what felt like an eternity, Rebekah took a right on a dirt road path, lined heavily with trees, so thick that nothing could be seen in between them.
"These guys from the club, are you sure we can trust them?" I flicked my eyes at Bekah and worried my bottom lip. I had never met these guys before, and I hoped we weren't about to be murdered or something. Rebekah's answering laugh was so light, almost like chimes tinkling in the wind.
"They've been coming in for a long time, they always ask us girls to come party. So, we finally agreed, but only on the condition that tonight is paid," Bekah proudly declared. I raised my brows at her, paid?
"So, you and the other girls will be stripping tonight?" I gawked at her. I had never seen Rebekah work and really hadn't planned to anytime soon. I let out another loud groan to show my displeasure at the news. It's not that I hated Rebekah's job, in fact, I admired her for what she did. But I knew that it meant that I would be left alone for the majority, if not the entire night.
"Just stick with me, you'll be alright." Bekah smiled and clutched my hand. I sent up a silent prayer to the moon goddess that it would be super packed tonight, so that I didn't have to see my best friend dancing naked. As we neared the end of the path, the road turned from dirt to concrete. A large white mansion peeked out from around several birch trees, and my eyes widened. The house was so large that we could fit three of our apartment complexes within it. The freshly manicured lawn smelled like it had been recently watered. Red rose bushes lined the road, and as we came closer, the road became a circular driveway. I could see white steps leading to the deep black double doors. Two white pillars rose high enough to support a beautiful balcony. I stepped out of the convertible and fixed my gray sweater-romper. Luckily, I was covered in all the right places, but some spots of the romper were see-through. It was the prettiest outfit I owned. I didn't know why I decided to waste it on a party, of all places. I ran my sweaty hands down the side of my romper and followed Bekah, climbing the steps towards the front doors. Bekah paused and turned towards me.
"Ready for one hell of a night?" She grinned as she raised the golden knocker in the shape of a snake and smacked it down on the door.
