Chapter Sixteen

1203 Words
Prince Leonard School is one place I had always hated. I didn’t see the point of being here, except to please my old man. I’d already made enough for myself, but if I’m going to take over my father’s position as the Alpha king then Dark Shadow Academy was a requirement. So, I agreed, but that didn’t mean I actually showed up for classes. I hate it. I’d rather spend my day playing video games than sit around waiting for some professor to drone on. But today I actually found myself going to school, sitting in class, and paying attention. Gosh, I still couldn’t believe I’m here all for Kayla. It has always been easy to get any woman into my bed. But somehow, Kayla was different, difficult in ways that set both me and Kai on edge. Kai was going crazy for her, restless and consumed, and I wasn’t far behind. I’d gone so far as to dig into her life, finding out where she worked just to get closer. She had become all Kai thought about, all he talked about and truth be told, I was starting to lose control of myself. Women never turned me down. They came to me like moths to a flame, helplessly drawn in. But Kayla… She rejected me at every turn but I wasn’t about to let her slip away so easily. “Good. I’ll have my driver pick you up later,” I told her. “Glad she agreed,” Kai purred at the back of my mind. “You’re a w***e,” I snapped. “Don’t blame me for wanting my mate,” he retorted. “We’re going to have her tonight.” “I doubt that. She won’t let me touch her,” I replied. “Well, I can wait. I’ve been waiting for my mate since forever,” he said. I’ve been waiting for my mate since forever,” he said, his presence finally receding into the quiet of my mind. “No—” Kayla’s voice cut in. My brows shot up in surprise. “I don’t want to be picked up,” she insisted, meeting my gaze with fire. “I’ll come to you myself.” I opened my mouth to argue, but the look in her eyes stopped me. She had no intention of bending on this. So, for the first time, I forced myself to relent. “Whatever you want,” I said with a smile. The class finally came to an end, and I watched her scramble out. A small smile tugged at my lips as I noticed how she fumbled with her steps. “Leonard.” A voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned and saw Alice standing there, smiling as if there was anything funny about this moment. “What do you want?” I asked, my tone sharp and impatient. “Leonard, I need to talk to you,” she said. I drew in a slow breath, jaw tightening. “We have nothing to talk about, Alice.” Her arms crossed beneath her chest, pushing her breasts higher as her bottom lip jutted out in a practiced pout. My gaze faltered just for a second, before heat coiled low in my stomach. My hands curled into fists at my sides, forcing my eyes back to her face. “Fine,” I agreed. “What is it?” “Can we go somewhere private? Just me and you.” Her glance flicked past me, lingering on Tyler and Ethan as they closed the distance. “You can say whatever you want right here,” I replied firmly. The last thing I wanted was to be alone with her again. I didn’t trust myself not to fall into the same trap of lust I had before. Once was already a mistake I regretted, and I wasn’t about to let it happen again. “Please, Leo.” I exhaled through my nose. “Fine.” I led her out of the classroom and toward the parking lot. A few students glanced our way, some whispering, others lifting their phones for pictures. I ignored them all. Unlocking my car, I slid into the driver’s seat, and Alice climbed in beside me. Silence settled between us until I finally broke it. “So?” “I want to apologize for the way I acted last time,” she said quickly. “You know I’m not usually like that… my emotions just got the better of me.” I gave a slow nod, still keeping my mouth shut. She took that as a sign to go on. “Is there something going on between you and Kayla? Standing up for people, especially girls, has never been your thing. So I’m surprised.” “I don’t think that’s any of your business.” “We had something, Leo. I was counting on it, until you stopped chasing me after that one night.” “I never told you I wanted a relationship. What we had was just a fling, and I’m over it. I’d advise you to do the same.” “But—I—” “There’s no but, Alice. What we had wasn’t serious. It was one night of passion, nothing more. I’ve moved on, and whatever you do is none of my concern.” The car door opened, and the boys climbed into the backseat, both raising their brows when they saw Alice sitting there. “Well, look who we have here,” Tyler teased. “Hey, Tyler,” Alice muttered and quickly got out of the car. I didn’t waste another second, I pressed the gas and pulled away. “Seems like someone’s having a hard time letting go,” Ethan said from the back. I let out a dry chuckle. “Kinda.” “Guess you’re too good,” Ethan teased. “Anyways, what’s up with you and your pretty little mate? She looked so cute today.” A smile tugged at my lips at the mention of Kayla, but it vanished just as fast when Aiden’s face came to mind. Kayla didn’t want me to stir trouble. That was why she agreed to dinner in the first place. But I wasn’t about to let it go. Neither was Kai. “I thought you said you weren’t going to do anything about it,” Kai pressed. “I never said that,” I shot back. “I just needed a reason to get our mate to have dinner with me.” He fell silent after that, and I turned my attention back to the boys. “She’s coming over tonight,” I said evenly. “But before that, we’ve got someone to teach a lesson.” I knew Kayla would be furious when she found out. But that didn’t matter. I wasn’t letting this go.
