Chapter Ten

Kayla. They stopped mid-step, surprise flashing across their faces before melting into a cold condensation. Emily tightened her grip on Aiden’s arm like she was announcing that he belonged to her. “What are you doing here?” She snapped, her voice was loud enough to turn heads. “Are you following us now?” I blinked, resisting the urge to scoff. As if I had nothing better to do than chase Aiden to some overpriced restaurant. “Who’s the fatty nerd?” Alice asked, turning to Emily with open disgust, not even bothering to lower her voice. “That’s the omega Aiden used to mess around with,” Emily sneered. “She actually thought it meant something.” Alice turned to me, her eyes filled with so much anger like she knew about me before. Her eyes raked over me with contempt. “Seriously? This is the thing?” She let out a high, ugly laugh. “Goddess, I didn’t even know omegas were allowed in places like this.” I felt the weight of people's stares, watching with disgust, and it made my skin crawl. Heat rushed to my cheek, not from anger, but from the crushing realization that I did not belong. “I guess the standards are really dropping,” she added, her voice sugary sweet with a bitter edge. “Or maybe someone thought letting a stray omega in would be good.” The word hit harder than I expected. Even though I told myself not to care, a knot twisted in my stomach as their laughter echoed in my head. I sat still, swallowing back the lump rising in my throat, wishing I could disappear into the floor. Aiden stepped forward, his voice cold. “You shouldn’t have come here. I meant every word I said to you and I’m not taking you back.” His words rub salt to my open wound. Hearing it again brought back all the pain I thought I had forgotten. I told myself I was over him, that I could move on. But it still hurt. Tears filled my eyes, and I tried so hard not to let them fall. He’s not worth it. “You heard him. He’s done playing with you. Stop trying so hard for a guy who clearly doesn’t want you.” Emily said, crossing her arms across her chest. “You’re just an omega. You should know your place, someone like you doesn’t belong with an Alpha.” By now, all attention was on us. Everyone seemed invested in what was going on. I had never felt so humiliated in my life. I just wanted to leave. Coming here with Prince Leonard was a terrible idea. What made it even worse was them seeing us together. I couldn’t let that happen. I stood up, ready to walk away, to run far from here but Alice stuck out her leg. I didn’t see it in time, and I tripped, falling hard onto the floor. “Not so fast, omega. We are not done here,” she snickered. “You need to learn a lesson. Learn your place.” She pressed her foot down on my knees. Pain shot through me, it was sharp and overwhelming. My knees screamed, and I couldn't hold back anymore. The tears I had been fighting finally fell, streaming down my face. “Can I have your attention, everyone?” Alice shouted, even though all eyes were already on us. She was never going to beat the allegations of being a bully, that's just who she was and since she was the Alpha’s daughter, no one ever dared to stop her. I looked at Aiden, hoping he would stop his sister from hurting me. But he just stood there, his arm wrapped around Emily’s waist, a slight grin on his face. He looked like he was enjoying it. Realizing no one was going to save me, I begged. “Please… just let me go. I promise I’ll stay out of your way.” “Shut up,” Alice snapped, and her hand slapped across my cheek, shutting me up. Then she reached across the table, grabbed Prince Leonard’s half-full glass of red wine, and in a swift motion, she poured it over my head. Gasps echoed around the restaurant, but no one stepped in to help me. Some even pulled out their phones and started recording. The cold liquid soaked through my hair, staining my dress and dripping down my back. Emily burst into laughter. “Oops.” My hands clenched at my sides, trembling. I knew they were waiting for a reaction, just something they could use to punish me even more or twist the story against me. So I stayed still and let them. Silently, I prayed Prince Leonard wouldn’t show up. “A little spill won’t make much difference anyway,” Alice said. “You already dressed yourself in rags.” “She should be grateful,” Emily added with a fake pout. “She’s going to trend for a while. We gave her fame.” She pointed at the phones recording me. My throat burned. My eyes stung, not from the wine, but from the shame, the rage, and worst of all… the helplessness. I opened my mouth, but no words came out. I couldn’t speak. One wrong move and I’d be in even more trouble, not only me, but my mom too. I couldn’t drag her into the mess I had created. If only I had known… I would’ve never agreed to date Aiden in the first place. “Got something to say, Omega?” Alice asked, smirking. I stayed quiet. There was no point. When she realized I wasn’t going to talk, she nodded. “Good. Now start by cleaning this mess up.” “What?” I blinked, stunned. “I said, clean it up, or do you want me to help you?” She snapped, her voice full of anger. I didn’t even get the chance to reply before she grabbed my hair and dragged me across the room. Emily joined her, both of them pulling me around like I was nothing. I begged, cried, but they didn’t listen. I looked at Aiden once again, hoping he’d step in this time… but he just smiled. “Omegas should always know their place.” “I don’t feel sorry for her. She deserves it.” I heard the murmurs from the crowd and honestly, maybe they were right. To them, omegas were nothing but slaves. That’s all we were. I was in so much pain, barely able to stay conscious, when I heard a thunderous voice from behind me. I knew who it was. And for a moment, I actually prayed to the moon goddess that he would just walk away. That he’d pretend not to know me. But he didn’t. His eyes were calm, but I could tell he was struggling to keep his wolf from breaking free. “What the f**k is going on here?” Alice and Emily immediately let go of my hair, and my head hit the floor with a loud thud. “I asked a f*****g question.”
