Therefore, she saw everything, including these higher-ups' nasty faces when gossiping behind her back, though she was their new boss.
"They are outrageous! Ms. Purcell is the only daughter of the Purcell family! What are they talking about? Aren't they stupid or what?" Elton Wilmot, the CEO's secretary, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was so angry that his cheeks turned red.
"Hey, I don't care about any of that at all. You shouldn't, either."
Belinda narrowed her eyes, reached out, and pinched Elton's cheek, and instantly, he blushed.
"Belinda, you are the future CEO of KS Group. Be like one, OK? Stop getting handsy." Edwin frowned slightly.
"What is it? Only male bosses can tease their female secretaries? And it won't be OK when things go the other way around?"
Belinda clicked her tongue and continued, "He is the one enjoying it!"
Edwin shook his head. His handsome face was filled with nothing but a doting and gentle smile.
...
The higher-ups surrounded Edwin and Belinda as they walked into the hotel.
Derrick Carter, the hotel's vice general manager, wanted to lead them to the VIP elevator.
Unexpectedly, Belinda casually said, "I want to take a look at the dining hall before anything."
The higher-ups were terrified and thought, the first thing she does after arriving here is to inspect without any small talk.
Derrick led Edwin, Belinda, and the others to the buffet hall in fear and trepidation.
Edwin deliberately had been trying to be an "invisible person", leaving the room to Belinda.
It was not lunchtime yet, so there weren't any diners here, but the waiters were already laying out the dishes.
Belinda scanned the dishes with her sharp eyes and suddenly stopped in the seafood section.
She rolled up her sleeves, reached her arm into the glass box, and picked out a dead shrimp from among the hundreds.
"Explain."
"It's ... not dead, right?" Derrick stuttered.
"Not dead? Then go ahead and eat it. It'll be my treat," Belinda said and curled her rosy lips.
"Ms. Purcell, as you can see, there are a lot of shrimps here. It's normal that one of them got suffocated..."
"It's normal for a shrimp to die, but would it be normal for a diner to eat a dead shrimp and get food poisoning?"
Belinda's smile faded away. "By the way, there are 356 shrimps here. I took a glance and saw 5 dead ones and at least 30 that are almost dead.
"I don't know what those diners might feel when they eat things like this after paying 50 dollars to dine here. If it were me, this hotel would be on my blacklist, and I would never come here again!
"Deal with all the ingredients in the seafood section right now and replace the supplier. If I see another dead shrimp for lunch tomorrow, I'll take it to you for you to try."
Derrick was so scared that his legs went soft, and all the higher-ups were also shocked.
Only Edwin and Elton knew how capable Belinda was. If she saw a thing once, she would remember it. Also, she read quickly. As a child, she used her eyes to help police solve a major criminal case.
Counting shrimps was easy peasy for her.
When they came to the guest room section, Belinda asked Elton for a white handkerchief and brushed it against the wall and the frame.
"The cleaning is not done properly. There is dust here. Clean the place again."
The higher-ups complained silently.
"You must be scolding me silently, thinking that I'm fussy, right?"
Belinda looked calm, but her tone was particularly serious. She continued, "Even centennial hotels might be defeated by overlooked details. These two issues I just found out would be enough to lower our hotel's rate if the reviewers knew about them."
She winked at Elton. The latter understood and ordered in a deep voice, "Open this room door."
The manager of the Housekeeping Department came shivering to open the door. In the past, when their superiors came to inspect, they would simply clean up two sample rooms for the inspection.
And Belinda, their new boss, was so weird. She was nothing like their previous superiors at all. She did not play according to the rules!
Belinda walked into the guest room. She first looked at the bathroom, and then she entered the room and sat on the bed.
In an instant, her beautiful face turned cold.
Yet she did not say anything. She stopped inspecting and came to the general manager's office with Edwin.
"What do you think of the tour?" Edwin asked with a smile.
She sneered, "Everywhere is filthy and dusty. The whole place is a mess!"
Belinda sat weakly on the sofa. She supported her forehead with her elbow on the armrest and sighed, "Is Dad testing me or messing with me? The hotel is a shithole! Is this really our family's property?"
"Belinda, Grandpa founded the hotel. In the early years, our family's company relied on expanding the hotel business. And then we have worked hard over the years to build today's KS Group.
"The hotel isn't a mess. Instead, it carries the feelings of the three generations of our family. It's just that our family has too many industries. Also, the hotel business has been in a slump in recent years, and we all have our own jobs, so ... the hotel hasn't been managed properly."
"Belinda, you might need to dedicate a lot," Edwin sighed helplessly, self-blaming.
It was only then that Belinda noticed the completely black piano in the corner.
Her heart skipped a beat.
"I ordered someone to place the piano there. I remember when you used to play the piano or go for a run at the racecourse when you were in a bad mood."
Edwin blinked. "I think you will be very busy in the following months. Going to the racecourse might be a bit unrealistic. If you are tired, play a few songs. I remember that you play the piano very well..."
"Thank you, Edwin. But I haven't played the piano for a long time."
Belinda felt a lump in her throat. She had been trying so hard to heal the wound in her heart, yet the wound now cracked again silently. She thought she had already gotten over it, yet she was still in pain.
"What happened?" Edwin was shocked.
"When I was working as a Doctor Without Borders, I accidentally hurt my hand while rescuing the wounded on the battlefield. The ligaments of my little finger were broken, and though I didn't lose my finger, it was practically useless. I couldn't play any notes with a long span on the keyboard, so ... I simply gave up playing the piano."
Belinda tried her best to tell Edwin as calmly as possible.
Edwin felt great heartache and hurriedly held up Belinda's fair and tender hands.
"Did you get hurt because of ... Ableson?"
"Yes, and no."
When Belinda heard Ableson's name, the pain from her heart was still killing her. However, she still revealed a bright smile. She said, "I was injured for the sake of world peace. It was family glory, OK?"
Five years ago, she and Ableson met again on the battlefield on the Mexican border.
She was a war doctor, and he was a soldier of the peacekeeping forces.
He fought for peace, and when he was badly wounded, she almost lost a hand to bring him back to the safe zone.
She used to regard her wound as glory, but now, every time she looked at her numb little finger, the only feeling she had was heartache.
Anyway, it was all in the past now. Even though she fell for the wrong person, she would never cry or regret it.
Elton knocked on the door and hurried in.
"Ms. Purcell, according to your instructions, I have found that Ally Furnishings is the supplier of our hotel's bed products and some furniture, and Mr. Carter is responsible for contacting them."
Belinda sneered, "Ally Furnishings? I see."
She crossed her slender legs and narrowed her eyes dangerously. "Tell the Finance Department to get me all the hotel accounts from the last two years. Also, replace Ally Furnishings with a new bed supplier right now."
"What a great spectacle." Edwin raised his eyebrows.
"The owner of Ally Furnishings is Nellie's brother."
"That makes sense. This is public retaliation for your personal grudges," Edwin and Elton said at the same time.
"That's not true! Ally Furnishings sell seconds at best quality prices, tricking us with cheap, shoddy beddings, so I'm throwing the book at them!" Belinda snorted hard.
She was furious at the thought of that hard, broken mattress she sat on. If the customers were uncomfortable while staying in the hotel, it would greatly affect their impression of the hotel. No wonder there were so many bad reviews online.
"By the way, there's one more thing..."
Elton said, "Ms. Purcell, you asked me to keep an eye on the Seymour family these few days. I just received news that senior Mr. Seymour had a stroke and has been hospitalized. It's a coincidence that he is staying in the hospital belonging to the Purcell Group."
"Ogden is hospitalized?" Belinda stood up at once, burning with anxiety.
Suddenly, Edwin's phone rang.
He looked at his phone screen with his long lashes drooping, and suddenly, he smiled.
"Belinda, it's your ex-husband."
