Chapter 3
Zoey's POV
"Mrs. Adams!" The distant familiar voice pulled me from my nightmare.
My eyes instantly opened, and for a few seconds, I couldn't tell where I was. My heart beat rapidly against my chest as I tried to catch my breath.
I found one of the maids standing beside the bed, concern visible on her face. Only then did I realize it had all been a dream.
A wave of relief washed making my entire body go weak. my hands trembled as I wiped off the tears on my face.
"What happened?" I asked, looking at the empty side of the bed.
"You were screaming Sir's name in your sleep," the maid replied gently. "I got worried and came to wake you."
I pressed a shaky hand against my chest, trying to calm myself down.
"Where are Zack and Israel?" I asked as I slowly sat up.
"Sir left early this morning, and Miss Israel has already gone to school. Would you like me to prepare a bath for you?"
"No, thank you," I replied quickly.
Once the maid left, I reached for my phone. The first thing I did was search for the video. My fingers moved frantically across the screen as I checked every platform I could think of but there was nothing. The video had disappeared.
A breath I hadn't realized I had been holding escaped my lips as I let out a sign of relief. Zack had done it, He had taken it down.
Despite everything that had happened between us, he had protected me.
I moved to my computer and checked Zack's location.
He was at his mother's house. That didn't concern me much.
As long as the video was gone, I could deal with everything else later. What scared me wasn't Alice, his mother, It was the dream of my father finding me.
If my father had seen the video, finding me would only be a matter of time.
I was suddenly scared yet again. Under normal circumstances, I would have packed my things and disappeared immediately. But I couldn't leave just yet and definitely not without Israel. I had come too far to walk away now. Even if it cost me everything.
Kelvin… the mere thought of him made my jaw tighten, I felt angry and wanted to scream at him or at least give him the beating of his life for putting me in this situation.
I grabbed my phone and dialed his number, but before I could press call, Zack's name flashed across the screen, I answered immediately.
"Zack, where are you?" I asked pretending I didn't know already.
"Come to my mother's house," he said coldly
"Okay," I replied before the line went dead.
Alice hated me. From the moment we met, she had looked at me as though I was beneath her son. She thought I was a gold digger. If only she knew the truth. Money had never been my goal. I was far worse than she could ever imagine. I had entered Zack Adams' life with one purpose only, To destroy him.
After dealing with Alice and Zack, I would have to handle Kelvin too.the safest option was to pay him and send him far away. I couldn't risk Zack or Alice discovering the truth.
I quickly showered and got ready.
The drive to Alice's mansion felt longer than usual. For the first time since I had started coming here, I noticed my surroundings.
The narrow road that lead to the mansion surrounded by thick forest.
There wasn't another house in sight because Alice had bought the entire area.
If circumstances had been different, I would have loved to stay in this place. It was isolated and Hidden, just the perfect place to disappear if my father ever found me.
Dark clouds gathered in the sky as I stepped out of the car. I knew it would rain soon. I thanked my driver and walked toward the mansion were a guard opened the front door for me.
The moment I entered the living room, I stood frozen my legs failing to move as I noticed kelvin.
My heart was beating rapidly like I had just ran a marathon. What the hell was he doing here? I wondered
Alice smirked as she spoke.
"Zoey," she said sweetly, "I'm so glad you're here. Your lover was just telling us how deeply in love the two of you are."
I didn't dare look at Kelvin. Instead, my gaze drifted to Zack. Disappointment was written all over his face. Did he believe whatever bullshit Kelvin told them?. For a brief moment, I began to regret what I had done the last 24 hours.
I thought hurting Zack would bring satisfaction again like earlier but instead satisfaction or happiness was the last thing I felt. Maybe it was pity or confusion, I couldn't tell.
"Sit down," Alice ordered sharply.
I composed myself and did so
"So, Kelvin," Alice said, "continue."
I finally looked at kelvin. If given the chance, I would have gladly cut off his tongue just to shut him up.
"Zoey," he said desperately, "they are threatening to take me to the police. Please tell them about us."
His pleading expression only made me more angry. I had no choice now.
It was his word against mine.
"What are you talking about?" I snapped. "You should go to prison for trying to ruin my marriage!" Confusion was visible on Kelvin's face.
"What are you—" I cut him off immediately.
"I already told you I don't have the money you wanted! How could you do this to me?" I demanded, My voice heavy with my eyes filled with tears.
At times like this, I had to admit I was a very good actress.
"Stop it, you lying piece of—"
"Mom, stop it!" Zack interrupted Alice
"Don't call her names." If I didn't know better, I would have thought Zack was an honorable man, But no, he was simply a man deeply in love. And thanks to my acting skills, I had managed to make him like this.
Five years ago, my life had been completely different from this.Every day had been planned for me.Training, Social events and doing whatever my father said. Diego controlled every aspect of me and my sister's lives.
Before Grace and I had even turned ten, our futures had already been decided. We were promised to men our father saw worthy. Grace had always been different than me. And perhaps more fearless , she went against my father every chance she got.
When she discovered she was pregnant at only 20 years, I was the only person she trusted with the secret. She didn't tell me who was responsible for the pregnancy but she was looking forward to having that baby so much that she began to make plans.
"We will leave," she had whispered one night
"We will take the baby and disappear far from father." For the first time in years, Grace had looked genuinely happy. She always hated the life we lived.
We made plans and dreamed about our freedom. At that time, I didn't know what it would feel like having my own life or freedom.
But we never got the chance. I still remembered opening her bedroom door that day at her hide out place. The scent of blood hit me first, then I saw her.
Grace lay motionless on the bed covered in blood.
I couldn't breathe nor think. I couldn't understand what I was seeing.
Then my eyes drifted downward. her stomach had been ripped open.
I slowly walked towards her my body shaking.
"Grace?" I whispered but she didn't answer, she was gone, the baby she had loved so much was gone too.
That day, something inside me died alongside her. The grief became anger, then hatred and finally obsession. I was obsessed with revenge.
I spent years searching for answers and gathering information Until eventually, all roads led to one man, Zack Adams. The man I knew
had r***d my sister, murdered her and had stolen her child.
The man I married with my only purpose to destroy him.
