BAD THOUGHTS ABOUT MY HUSBAND
Chapter 1
Zoey's POV
11:48 p.m. was the time on the clock hanging on my bedroom wall. For the last 40 minutes, I had been sitting on the edge of my bed, my eyes impatiently shifting from the clock to my bedroom door. My ears were on full alert waiting to hear the sound of my husband, Zack's car pulling into the driveway.
Usually, Zack was never late, at least, not this late.
Maybe my plan had finally worked. Maybe I had hurt him enough that he couldn't bring himself to come home.
No matter how tired I was, I couldn't sleep without seeing him first. I wanted to see the look on his face when he realized what I had done. I wanted to see him in pain.
When the clock struck midnight, I finally decided to call him. I could perhaps make up an excuse and tell him that his daughter, Israel, wasn't feeling well and needed him. I just needed him to come home.
Before I could dial his number, I heard the sound of the main gate opening. I instantly let out a sign of relief. Zach was home.
I remained seated on the bed, my gaze fixed on the door. I was anxious as I imagined the look he would have when he saw me. Had I been impatient, I would have gone downstairs to meet him at the main entrance.
But I had waited five months for this moment that marked a new beginning for our relationship, surely a few more minutes wouldn't hurt.
Three minutes later, the bedroom door opened. The first thing that hit me was the scent of alcohol. Zach never drank but now, for the first time, he had.
The moment his eyes landed on me, he let out a painful laugh. Only then did I finally look at him. His dark hair was damp, and his hazel-green eyes were bloodshot and swollen.
For a second, I barely recognized the handsome billionaire I had married. He shook his head as he slowly made his way towards the bed, struggling to keep his balance. Despite his drunken state, his gaze remained fixed on mine.
It took everything in me not to laugh out of happiness. Who would have imagined that the great Zack Adams would ever cry because of a woman?
"How... how could you do this to me?" he asked, his voice breaking as he dropped to his knees in front of me.
"You come home at midnight drunk and that's the first thing you say?" I asked pretending I had no idea what he was talking about.
I didn't bother pretending to be concerned though, the amusement in my voice was impossible to hide. He let out a sob as he wrapped his arms around my waist, crying like a child.
The satisfaction I felt was priceless. I honestly couldn't remember the last time I had been this happy.
"I love you, Zoey," he whispered between sobs. "I love you so much, and I don't know how to deal with this. I don't know what to feel, how could you betray me like this?". I didn't try to comfort him neither did I respond. I simply sat there, smiling until my cheeks began hurt.
I had bad thoughts about my husband. Thoughts no wife should ever have.
Countless times, I had imagined ways to hurt him, destroy his reputation, and make his daughter, Israel, hate him.
People always say you should marry your best friend but I married my enemy. The only twist was that he hadn't realized it. Maybe now he finally would, and this was only the beginning. What I had planned for him was much worse.
"Zoey." Zack called as he lifted his head and held my face with trembling hands, tears still falling down his cheeks.
"Do you have any idea how I felt when my mother called me about that video?" he asked painfully. "Was cheating on me not enough? You recorded yourself and even linked it with the paparazzi?"
The moment those words left his mouth, my heart skipped a bit. That wasn't supposed to happen.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked anxiously. "What do you mean I linked it to the paparazzi?" Surely, he was drunk and confused. I helped him to his feet and tried walking him towards his side of the bed, but he pulled away from me almost immediately.
"Don't touch me," he said before breaking down again. The anxiety inside me quickly turned into fear.
"Your mother showed you the video?" I asked. Zack stared at me as if I had lost my mind.
"Are you serious?" he asked with disappointedment in his voice. "That video is all over the internet." Once again, my heart skipped.
My hands slivered as I grabbed my phone. Silently praying that he was mistaken, I searched online. The moment I saw it, I felt weak in the knees and had to hold on to the bed for support
"No..." I whispered.
It felt as though my entire world had fallen apart. Tears filled my eyes as I began to panic even more.
Turning back to Zack, I said, "pull it down." He looked at me with a blank expression.
"Pull it down!" I repeated my voice filled with fear by now tears were already falling down my cheeks.
"Zoey." Zack held me by my shoulders tightly. "You cheated on me. You slept with another man."
I knew he was hurt, that had been my intention all along. I wanted him to suffer but I had never intended for the video to spread across every social media platform. It was only supposed to be sent directly to Zack. It was never meant for public eyes. Everything was falling apart because of this one mistake.
It was only a matter of time before my father saw the video and discovered where I was, if he hadn't already. That thought alone scared the hell out of me. Unable to control my emotions, I broke down. My husband loved me. And perhaps I could use that love to my advantage.
Tonight was supposed to be unforgettable, just not in this way.
Dropping to my knees, I held Zach's hands tightly.
"Please pull the video down, I am your wife, what disgraces me also disgraces your image" I pleaded, choosing my words carefully but he only looked at me in disbelief.
"Do you think I'm stupid?" he asked, his voice trembling.I shook my head frantically.
"You don't understand, Zach. Please, I'm begging you. Use your connections and get the video taken down. You have the power to do it. Once it's gone, I promise I'll explain everything." But Zach simply shook his head.
"You cheated," he repeated, pain evident i
n every word.
Seeing the look in his eyes, I realized one thing. I was doomed.
