CH. 19- What's Happening?

“I am…You don't know Big C, or should I say, Cadmus.”

“Cadmus?” Marcus spoke with a confused look at Clint. “Who the heck is Cadmus?” Marcus added.

Clint did not say anything about the name Cadmus. But he gave a warning to Marcus.

“Hey, kid, do not do anything stupid. This man is years or, to be even thousands of years ahead of you.”

“What do you mean by that, Clint?”

When Marcus asked that, the mysterious masked man spoke once again. “Clint, so that's the new name you are going with.”

“I don't know who you are, buddy but, I am certainly not gonna let you hurt these two,” Clint spoke as he raises his fists towards the man.

The man turns around before replying to Clint, “Do not worry, I am not here to fight. But when the time comes, I will not hesitate to kill you two both. Especially you, Clint, do not think that I will repeat the same mistake in the past.”

Then after that, the man was suddenly engulfed in flames and disappeared into thin air. Seeing the man disappeared, Clint lowered his guard and was about to tell Marcus about something until Lucilia interrupted by screaming.

“Aaaaahhh! What the hell is that!?” Lucilia screamed as she saw the headless giant monster.

“A giant chupacabra, that's what Clint has been calling it. So why don't we go out of this place and meet your worried grandparents.” Marcus spoke as he grabs Lucilia by the arm and pulls her along with him.

The three then walked back to the surface. The stench of blood was starting to take over the place. It was discomforting for both Marcus and Lucilia. Meanwhile, Clint did not give a damn about the smell as he walked casually.

He even steps on the dead bodies of monsters that he killed. Lucilia was frightened by the scene she saw as they walk the dark path to the exit. Only lighted by a flashlight, it also did not help that there were monsters' bodies along the way.

Once they reached the surface, Lucilia was shaking from the trauma. The brutally murdered dead bodies, the disgusting stench of blood, and the giant monster she saw. Seeing all of that has dramatically affected Lucilia.

But when Clint looked for the old couple. A terrible thing had already happened to Charles as Clint saw Merry hugging a charred body while sobbing.

Lucilia heard the sobs of her grandma, so she runs in Clint's direction. And saw her grandfather already burnt to char, the body which her grandmother is hugging. Lucilia drops on her knees, and tears started to pour down her cheeks.

Marcus followed after them and saw the horrible fate of Charles. Clint grabs Merry, who was sobbing. Merry looks at Clint with a face in tears.

Clint then asked, “tell me what happened, Mrs. Merry?”

Merry answered, “it was a masked man! He burned my husband until he turned into this thing.”

Marcus was shocked at what he saw, “This is horrible. Who could do such a thing?”

Clint answered Marcus's question, “It's the masked man who we meet underground. He's the only one that used fire.”

“Clint, do you know who that guy was?”

Clint did not answer Marcus. Instead, he grabbed his phone from his pocket and called someone.

Clint then spoke to the phone; Marcus was unable to hear who Clint was talking with. However, he listened to these things come out of Clint's mouth.

“Hey, can I talk to you about something? It's an emergency. We need an entire team immediately. It's about someone who is still alive. And I might have a clue on who he is.”

After that, Clint hides his phone back in his pocket and looks at Marcus. He then spoke, “Marcus, clear the area. Make sure that there are no civilians near this area. Understand?”

Marcus wanted to ask questions; however, his sword vibrated, hinting that Clint doesn't want to be disturbed by any more questions.

“Yes, Clint,” Marcus replied as he walks out of the area without any hesitation.

But as he walks to check the surrounding area, his sword spoke unto him, “I suggest that you should stay out of this, Marcus. Let the adults deal with this, also if you meet that masked man. I suggest you not to fight.”

“Why do you say that, Mister Sword?”

“I know your thoughts, Marcus. Remember, we share a single connection. So I know that you will take revenge when you see that man once again.”

“What if I will do that, Mister Sword?”

“Don't do it, Marcus! Especially how strong he is when I first saw him. Chills went down my blade; I never thought that I would feel fear once again after many years of killing nightmarish creatures.”

“Looks like a warrior of that caliber was something that could bring my fear back. I even saw it in my head, Marcus. If you tried to attack him, in just a flick of his finger, you would be dead.”

After hearing his sword spoke Marcus suddenly felt powerless. His sword, which he thought was a powerful one, became scared of one man. It had affected Marcus as he imagines his death when he tried thinking about revenge.

Marcus did not know the reason, but he was genuinely afraid of a man who was not near him. It was the first time Marcus experienced this; his sword tried to calm him down.

Then as Marcus calms down, the sound helicopters rushing toward the direction he came from appeared. Seeing the helicopters lower their altitude on where he left Clint and the others, Marcus became worried and ran back.

When he arrived, he saw multiple people wearing black suits. Clint was also talking to one of the men in black. However, it was not only the men in black that he saw. He also saw people wearing military gear that was very similar to the military's special forces.

Marcus walked toward the group, where he interrupted Clint, talking to a man wearing a black business suit. It was like a scene from the men in a black movie. The two civilians, on the other hand, they're confused about what was going on.

Then Clint spoke to Marcus before he could get asked by Marcus.

“Marcus, why don't you go back to the farmhouse. Lead these people back, who will also accompany Mrs. Merry and Lucilia to their farm.”

“Ok,” Marcus replied without any hesitation.

Then eight men wearing black business suits followed him and Merry and Lucilia, who the men were assisting. The group immediately entered the house upon arriving. However, there were already multiple sport utility vehicles parked outside. And more men wearing business suits had already walked around the house.

A helicopter even flew above the house and seemed to be only circling. One of the men wearing the business suit asked Merry and Lucilia to sit at the dinner table. The two followed the instructions of the man and sat around the dinner table.

The two were unable to speak due to the atmosphere created by the people who look like agents from a government organization. Marcus, on the other hand, was told to do whatever he wants but not speak with the two.

Then an hour passed, Clint, with the guy he was speaking, arrived at the house. Marcus observed on the sidelines as Clint and the new guy, who seems to be a boss, took a seat across Merry and Lucilia.

The new guy then spoke, “Sorry, Mrs. Merry, about your loss. However, we would like you to forget about everything that has happened here.”

After hearing the man, Merry slammed her hands on the table before replying to the man. “What do you mean forget!? How insensitive are you, people! I just lost my husband, and my granddaughter was kidnapped and traumatized by monsters.”

“Then you people came here touching our property and telling us to forget about what happened! What kind of bullshittery is this!”

The man tried to calm down, Merry by saying. “Were sorry about your husband, but this is a safety measure for the people of this country and the entire world. It is also for the safety of your granddaughter. So please calm down, ma'am, as we are trying to help you.”

“The only way you can help me is to bring my husband back. But you can not do that, you insensitive bastards.” Merry replied to the man.

Meanwhile, Clint was just quiet and did not interfere. But the man in the suit spoke once again; however, he pulled a pen from his pocket. Then a weird purple circular glowing symbol appeared above the heads of Merry and Lucilia.

“You will forget everything, and your husband died due to an accident. You young one, on the other hand, will also forget everything you saw. Including your memories of Marcus and Clint both, you will forget. Also, we are here to be a funeral service provider as your husband or grandpa has funeral insurance.”

The symbol vanished when the man hides his pen. Then Merry suddenly spoke, “Excuse me, sir, but what are we talking about again?”

“Were the funeral insurance co any that your husband have? You have our condolences from our company.”

“That's right, grandma; grandpa died from a fire accident. I can not believe it happened just today.” Lucilia spoke like she has forgotten everything. But in reality, both of them did forget about everything that just happened.

Marcus was in disbelief after witnessing this. He cannot believe that someone has just wiped people out of their memories, just like that.

After setting everything and planting pieces of evidence, Marcus and Clint went back to their car. However, Marcus still cannot believe what just happened. Clint saw the look on Marcus, and he immediately knew what it meant.

“Marcus, I know you are asking if what we did was right or wrong. But everything was necessary for us to keep working in secret.”

After that, Clint said an important thing. “Also, Marcus, I forgot to tell you that you passed the evaluation. So tomorrow you will meet the board of directors. Also, you will be pairing up with two other individuals from overseas.”

What Clint spoke has indeed caught Marcus's attention leading him to reply, “Ok, but could I say something.”

“Sure, what is it, Marcus?”

“It's about the overseas guys. Do you know who they are?”

“I already did my job and have already performed a background check. However, wouldn't it be more exciting if you get to know them without any knowledge about them. I'm sure you will have fun doing missions with them.”

“I see, then about the board of directors. Will I be able to know them?”

“You can't see their faces; however, you'll be able to speak with them. Also, they will give you all of the necessary equipment to perform your Hunter duties.”

Meanwhile, at an unknown place, a masked that Marcus and Clint saw was walking. He minded his own business until a seductive-looking woman blocks his path.

“You are the descendant of Hephaestus. Aren't you?”

The masked man replied to the woman, “I don't know who you are, but if you're going to kill me, sorry to tell you, but you are in bad luck.”

The woman smiled at the masked man before replying, “Do not worry, I'm not here to fight. I am here to send a message from my master.”

“Then who is this master of yours?”

“His name is Vlad, mysterious man. Now that you know his name, will you be willing to listen to my master's message?”

The masked man answered, “Fine but make it quick; I don't have time if it's something useless.”

The woman smiled before laying out the message. “Descendant of Hephaestus, I have something you want. And a friend of mine named Minos, a minotaur, intends to talk to you. If you want to know more, follow this woman. She will bring you to me.”

“That is my master's message, to you mysterious man.”
