CH. 6- A Weak Coward?

1581 Words
*EEEUUUAAAAHHHHHHH-AAAAAAHHH* I stretch my arms high after waking up and yawning. I look at my surroundings and saw the same clinic room I was allowed to stay. I got out of bed and fixed the hospital bed. It wouldn't be nice if I would not do that. I was allowed to stay here for that, so doing this is a must. After finishing arranging the bed, I walked out and saw a desk near the exit of the room. There I saw the guy which I call the doctor. He was having his morning coffee, then he noticed me. “Hey, you're already awake.” He spoke after taking a sip of coffee from his mug. I walked toward the doctor and replied. “Good morning, doc.” But out of nowhere, he suddenly spoke something unexpected. “Arent you supposed to be at school today.” “What do you mean?” I asked with a confused look on my face. “You are an i***t. You know that today is a Monday.” After hearing the doctor, Marcus suddenly became quiet. Until out of nowhere, he screamed, “WHAAAT!” Then what followed was Marcus starting to panic after realizing that he was still a student. “I need to go home now and get prepared! Doc! Do you have a phone that I can use to call a taxi?” “Huh! Why are you panicking?” “How could I not panic, doc? School is still essential for me! I may not look like a smart kid, but I still want to achieve a perfect attendance record in my class. That's the only thing that I only get awarded in my school!” The doctor let out a sigh of annoyance. So, he suddenly pointed out with his index finger in one of the cabinets in the room and spoke, “I knew this was going to happen. So I have asked Big C to grab your clothes. Also, you can take a shower here.” “Thank you very much, doc!” Spoken a teary-eyed Marcus, who dashes towards the clinic's designated bathroom. Fifteen minutes later. I was finished taking a cold shower. Thanks to the clinic's bathroom not having a water heating system. But for sure, that cold water woke me up. “Marcus catch!” The doctor threw me my sword. Which I immediately caught mid-air. “Doc, I think I don't have to bring this with me.” “No! Take it with you, Marcus!” That was a fast response. But carrying a sword to school is a big no-no. So I'm not sure if I'm even allowed to bring this. “Cover it up with this cloth, Marcus!” The doctor threw me a price of black clothing. “What is this, doc?” “It's to conceal your weapon; you don't wanna lose your weapon while your at school. Also there is a high chance that will get confiscated by the teachers.” “But why would I have to bring this to school, doc? I think this is unnecessary.” “Marcus! Listen carefully to my advice.” I don't know what was going on, but his tone was full-on serious. So I paid attentively; he noticed that I was willing to listen, so he continued to speak his advice. “Marcus, a hunter must always carry their weapon with them. As monsters and demons, never choose a date or time to attack. So it would be best if you remained vigilant; you never know that a monster was standing next to you. Waiting for an opening to kill you.” I gulped after hearing the doctor's words. But experiencing the danger that those monsters possess. I should be more careful. I even remember the warning of Big C, about the beast I killed sending a signal to its allies. Meaning, they are probably hunting me, so the school is not a safe place for me anymore. “What's with that serious face, Marcus?” “Sorry, doc! I was only thinking something to myself.” After saying that, I grabbed my sword tightly. Wrapped him with the cloth that the doc gave me. “You seem hesitant about bringing me, Marcus. So what's this sudden change of attitude.” My sword telepathically spoke to me. “Hey, if monsters attack, can we survive?” “So, you doubt my abilities, Marcus? That's not a nice impression of the weapon who saved you from death.” “I know that I am rude for saying that, Mister Kampilan, sir. But seeing how Big C defeated me.” “Are you stupid!” Yelled the sword telepathically, which caused Marcus to have a sudden headache. “Eh! That was painful! Why'd you do that!” “Listen here, Marcus, you got beat up by that guy. Because you are still weak, you saw it, didn't you? I killed a monster in one swing. So this doubt of being defeated is on you, Marcus. How long do you think that fear will help you in the long run?” After hearing the sword, I realized that I am genuinely a coward. I am just a kid whose only joy is watching anime and playing games. Seeing monsters and fighting them was not my intention. I am only doing this to protect my grandpa and myself from the monsters. It's a selfish reason, but I can't think of another reason I joined this hunter organization, except for that selfish coward protection for grandpa and me. “Marcus, fear should not be a trait once you wield me. Fear is something you should not show in combat, as fear represents weakness. And being weak is the ONE THING I HATE THE MOST!” Suddenly the conversation between the sword and Marcus got cut off by the doctor. “Marcus, what are you doing? I'll be driving you to school; that big C asked me to do it.” Seeing the unresponsive Marcus, the doctor walked towards him and grabbed him by his shoulder. The doctor then asked Marcus, “Hey! Are you ok? You seemed to be shaking, is there any problem?” “Doctor, can I ask you a question?” Marcus spoke. “Sure, but don't expect a great answer. The reason I'm not your guardian nor guidance counselor.” “Then doc, am I considered a coward and weak?” The doctor scratched his head before answering Marcus. After a few seconds, the doctor replied, “Marcus, a weak person can become strong. A coward can overcome his fears. However, it's up to that person to achieve those. So that decision of staying a weak coward is resting on your own.” I don't know what happened, but the doctor was not wrong. I looked at the sword, who called me a coward. Then I started to realize something so simple. “So it's my decision if I'm going to stay like this forever.” “I don't wanna deal with this, Marcus. So could you please stand up so you wouldn't be late for school?” “Oh yeah! That's right! Also, sorry, doc, for asking you that.” “No worries, Marcus. Now follow me, oh! Before I forgot. Big C told me that you are still not allowed to go to your house. So you should stay in your friend's or relatives' house.” “B-but doc! I don't have anyone to stay with; I don't have that many friends. Or do I even have friends? My only close relatives that I have contact with are also living in Dallas, Texas.” The doctor massaged his forehead after hearing Marcus' situation. “What should we do with you now?” “Sorry, doc, if I'm such an inconvenience.” The doctor let out a sigh, “Well, we can't help it. I should tell Big C to let you stay in the dorms on the campus while you still have no place to go.” “Umm, excuse me, doc. But may I know why I am not allowed to return to my house?” “Were fixing your house for the damages that happened. We are also cleaning it from its bloody state along with the traces of that monster.” I was surprised by this revelation. I needed to tell grandpa about what happened, which causes me to get scared of his reaction to the damage. But hearing this removed a prick of worry from my heart. “Thanks, doc; I never thought the organization was willing to fix the damages.” “Of course, we are willing to fix everything that got damaged. We even made up a story for the reason why that kind of damage happened to your house.” “Why do you need to make up a story about the cause of my broken house, doc?” “Marcus, you are truly naive. The organization's purpose is to kill monsters without causing widespread panic. In other words, we have to keep our operations secret from the public's eye. So it would help if you also were careful of revealing something from other people, especially with your newly gained superhuman strength. Try to act like you were the same, Marcus from before. Never show off that newly acquired power, speed, and agility you gained.” “Eh! Why is that!?” “Just follow my orders, Marcus. It's for the better. Also, you only have thirty minutes before you are considered late for school.” “Huaaah! Then doc, let's leave! I don't wanna be scolded by the teacher for being late.” Marcus exits the room. After that, the doctor followed after him. “You i***t, that's not the way to the exit!” Yelled the doctor to Marcus. “I hope that doc has not forgotten about telling Marcus about his training.” Big C spoke unto himself as he glances from above the rooftop at Doctor and Marcus rushing towards the car
