CH. 23- The Test of Three Hunters

Marcus, Blitz, and Lorenzo were listening to the teacher's lecture. Everything was excellent until Blitz felt something strange somewhere. It was something that caused Blitz to stand up from his chair even the class was still going.

The teacher saw Blitz, who stood up from his seat frantically. The teacher then asked Blitz if everything was ok. Blitz replied to the teacher, “Sir, I suggest that we should leave now. Something bad is about to happen.”

After Blitz spoke, Marcus and Lorenzo, who were also wondering about Blitz, suddenly disturbing the class: finally felt something weird and powerful. They know it was far away, but all of the hair in their body stood up. It was somewhat terrifying for the two of them, even knowing it was far away.

However, the teacher was confused about Blitz's reply. The teacher thought that Blitz was playing an unfunny prank on him. So he replied, “if this somewhat a joke, Blitz. You know that I can put some bad marks on your car-. ”

*Brrrrrrrriiiinggg!*

The sound of the school's fire alarm reverberated in the air before the teacher could finish his sentence. The teacher looked at the ceiling of the room and questioned, “do we have a fire drill today?” The teacher then let out a sigh before looking at the students.

When he gazed at his students, the teacher spoke, “Ok! You guys know the drill. Exit the room while checking the headcount of your classmates.”

After that, the people in the front slowly walked out of the room. They formed a straight line as they walk in the hallways of the room. The teacher, on the other hand, did not care as he walked outside the room. He did not even bother checking the students if all of them were performing the drill correctly.

Due to the teacher's negligence, he could not see that Marcus, Lorenzo, and Blitz, did not join the line. The three had already escaped while the other students walk out of the room.

The three were running on the school's empty hallways while trying to locate the monster's presence exact position. It was a powerful presence that had worried Lorenzo and Marcus. However, Blitz had the opposite reaction as his face has a wide grin as they locate for the monster.

When they arrived at the place where the presence was strong, a grotesque monster greeted them. It was a monster with a height of five feet. Its body has an oval shape. Its head is small and covered by a shield-like pronotum. It's about was directed down and backward. It has six spiny legs that allow the monster to run faster. However, the beast was standing on two legs and not six. Not only that but in its back was a pair of flattened wings.

The creature in the front of the hunters was a giant cockroach. He was standing on two feet while releasing a powerful aura that sent chills down Marcus and Lorenzo's spine.

Its creepy legs are wiggling along with its antenna. The monster they were fighting was a giant cockroach. Marcus immediately removed Mister Sword from his bag. Lorenzo pulls out his dagger from his bag. Meanwhile, Blitz grabbed the ground, and a glowing white circle appeared. Blitz put his entire arm inside the ring and pulled out a whole halberd.

Marcus and Lorenzo were surprised at how Blitz showed his weapon. After that, the three then charged forward to the cockroach man. However, when they reached the cockroach, the three were very disorganized.

Due to their disorganized attacks, the cockroach was able to escape. Then three only hit each other's weapons.

*Shiiiiing!*

“You two stay out of my way!” Yelled Blitz as he pulls his halberd back. After gaining his halberd to its position.

Blitz jump towards the cockroach and launches a stabbing attack using the elongated pike of his halberd.

However, the cockroach dodges the attack and jumps towards Marcus. Who immediately swings at him. But before Marcus reaches the monster with his sword. The cockroach spits something out of his mouth; it was green dense green gas with a very irritating smell. Marcus weaves the counter-attack of the monster by sidestepping.

Marcus gazed in the direction where the monster's attack landed. Everything that the monster hit eroded, including the concrete floor. But as Marcus looks at the damage, Lorenzo appeared behind the cockroach.

Without saying anything, flames engulfed the blade of the kris dagger that Lorenzo held as he swings it towards the monster. But the monster evades the attack by jumping high above the ceiling and sticking above there with his six legs, crawling like a real cockroach.

Marcus's hair stood up upon seeing the creature crawl. On the other hand, Lorenzo smiled as he aims his dagger at the giant insect. Out of nowhere, branches of trees suddenly penetrated through the concrete ceiling of the school.

The branches then acted like tentacles with a mind of their own as they tried to capture the beast. But the beast was so fast and agile that tree branches weren't able to keep. After eight seconds of appearing, the tree branches disappeared back to the ceiling pulling themselves out.

“Tsk! It looks like my cursed technique reached its time limit.”

“That thing is fast. Do you have any idea on how to kill it, Lorenzo?” Marcus asked Lorenzo, who just destroyed the school's ceiling.

“I'm out of tricks. How about you, Marcus?”

Behind Lorenzo and Marcus, Blitz has the gaze of disappointment towards them two after they couldn't capture or slay the monster. “Those two are useless. I guess I have to do it in my way.” After saying those words, Blitz charged forward at the beast at full speed.

Lightning appeared in his surrounding as he dashes toward the monster. When he passed by, Marcus and Lorenzo Blitz unintentionally electrocuted. Thanks to the lighting he created as he runs toward the insect beast.

Blitz thrust the pike of his caliber towards the monster without any hesitation. The insect was unable to dodge it as the attack connects. Blitz had successfully dealt damage to the giant monster cockroach. Blitz showed a smirk on his face as victory was in his hands.

But Blitz's celebration was too early as the cockroach retaliates with its eroding attack toward Blitz. Seeing that there was no way to escape the attack, Blitz gritted his teeth for the dumb mistake he has committed. Rage flowed through every core of Blitz's body.

“Bastard!” Yelled Blitz at the monster as he was just inches near the smoke that erodes everything it hits. But even with his tough-guy act, Blitz's eyes did not lie as his eyes showed the emotion of fear, as tears slowly dropdown from his cheeks. He slowly closes his eyes, accepting his defeat.

“Is this the end? Damn, to think I was able to kill more monsters before, but dying to this ugly insect leaves a bad taste in my mout-.”

But before Blitz could finish his sentence, he realized something. Its been four to five seconds, and yet he was still alive. Blitz decided to open his eyes again and saw that everything had stopped. And there he saw Marcus, trying to pull him out of the monster's attack.

“You i***t!” Marcus yelled as he pulled Blitz from the monster's attack with ease.

After pulling out Blitz, Marcus yelled, “do it now!” towards Lorenzo, who appeared near the immobile monster.

Lorenzo, with his flaming dagger, stabbed the monster on its side. “Have a taste of this, you creepy crawling insect!”

Flames then burst out on the opposite side, where Lorenzo stabbed the monster. The smell of a fried cockroach dominated the air as Lorenzo burned the immobile beast from inside.

After that, Lorenzo jumps away from the monster back to Marcus and Blitz. Then the beast that was immobile along with its attack started to move again. It was like time had stopped in their fronts. It was quite a strange thing for Blitz and Lorenzo.

But Marcus spoke, making the situation clear. “Looks like my time slow, ability came in handy.”

“Wait, what!? That's your cursed ability?” Lorenzo spoke after hearing Marcus.

“Yeah, that was my cursed ability.”

Lorenzo's eyes widened after hearing Marcus's power. He even complimented Marcus's ability. “Dude! Your power is similar to cheating. How can I even attack you if all of my attacks are slow, that they almost looked like they stopped.”

Marcus was slightly embarrassed but happy from the compliment. “It might be powerful, but it's quite weak as I can only use it for a mere three minutes. Not only that but when I use one minute, I can only use it for another two minutes.”

“So you can divide the time limit of your cursed skill. That's quite convenient.”

Marcus also returned a compliment to Lorenzo, “your cursed skill is also amazing, Lorenzo. Being able to control trees and fire, that's somewhat a powerful weapon.”

Lorenzo had a smug face after hearing Marcus's compliment that he started to brag. “Well, my kris is blessed by the goddess of prosperity who's very close to nature. Not only that, I can control fire thanks to the God of… Wait, what was his name again? Was he a he or a she?”

“I think you will anger those God's if you had forgotten their name and gender.”

Marcus and Lorenzo were talking. Blitz was sitting on the floor. He was furious at his almost near-death experience, thanks to his carelessness. Lorenzo and Marcus felt the rage from Blitz as his aura started to leak out.

Marcus was scared even to talk to Blitz. However, Lorenzo had enough of the bullshit happening with the three of them. So with all of his courage, he turned towards Blitz and grabbed him on the shirt.

Marcus was terrified for Lorenzo after seeing him confronting Blitz. However, fear overtook Marcus, so he stayed behind and did not join the two's argument.

“Blitz! It would help if you were careful next time about your ability.”

Blitz just rolled his eyes as he turns his gaze away from Lorenzo. But Lorenzo slammed him into the concrete walls of the school.

Lorenzo then yelled angrily at Blitz's face. “I never thought that you were the stupid one, Blitz. Ever since you told Marcus and me not to be a drawback to your back, I thought you were the badass and cool guy who thinks smart. But after this encounter, I can say that you are the muscle head who charges forward without caring about his allies or surroundings.”

Blitz retaliated back at Lorenzo, “Who cares about your surroundings! You two should be the ones aware of the surroundings. If your weak, stay out of the way of the strongest.”

Lorenzo did not like those words, so he yelled once again, “so it's like that, then what would have happened if Marcus and I are completely unconscious. After being struck by the lighting you created. It would have lead to your death, isn't that right?”

After hearing Lorenzo, Blitz clenched his fist. Blitz was angry because Lorenzo is telling him the truth. Blitz saw that it was his end until Marcus saved him from harm's way. Blitz didn't want to accept the fact due to his pride. However, he has no counter-argument to Lorenzo's words. So he kept quiet and took every word that Lorenzo threw at him. Blitz thought it was the only right thing to do after f*****g up big time.

However, as they were arguing on the school's rooftop, Clint and Rose watched over the three. They were observing the battle the three had from beginning to end. Now they are watching the three argue.

Rose was slightly sick of watching, so she asked Clint, “are you sure this would work?”

Clint replied, “near-death experiences can change someone. Especially warriors who were saved by comrades, so this is a good experience to form their cooperation. However, it seems they are still far away from understanding each other.”

“But why you have to use such a terrifying monster, Clint? Those three still think that they have defeated the monster. But it's still alive. They're quite careless of their surrounding. The damage they did is also something they should learn to control the damage of their surroundings. Or else the organization will run out of funds in paying the construction companies.”

“Remember, this is also a test of their strength and control, Rose, so let them be. But I'm more interested in their destructive power. I have seen Marcus's potential, so I also want to see those two. Especially Blitz, the wielder of the halberd crafted from the same material as the Mjolnir.”
