CH.14 Monster Category

Big C, or should I now call Clint, has brought us to a forest. The ride was rough as the road we traveled was not paved. We were practically in the middle of the woods.
“Marcus, be prepared for anything that might come out. We don't want that thing a bushing us.” Clint spoke as we got out of the car
“Clint, do you think that monster is after a human girl?”
“That was not just a theory, Marcus. That was that creature's true plan. It wants to breed with Lucilia. I only said it was a theory because I did not want to worry those old folks.”
“But wouldn't it be better if you just told them the truth.”
Clint lets out a sigh after hearing the continuous question of Marcus. “Look, kid, you noticed it didn't you. The way Charles acted. Charles is easily carried away by emotion. So knowing the truth would make him burst into anger and hunt that creature in the middle of the darkness.”
After that, Clint patted Marcus's head and continued, “Also, a hunter's responsibility is to limit civilian casualties.”
After that talk, the two of us continued to walk on foot. We tracked the creature in this dense forest. But I was still not sure what kind of beast we have encountered.
So I asked Clint, “Mister, what was that thing we encountered last night?”
“Oh, that was the chupacabra.”
“Heh!?”
“What's with that face? Haven't seen a chupacabra?”
Marcus tries to return to his usual self and removed his surprised face. Before replying, “B-but aren't chupacabra's dog-like creatures?”
“Oh about that, that's what our various connections said to multiple documentaries. Do you think that the organization was powerless? However, this proves the power of money. Which is scummy, don't you think, Marcus?”
So the organization is that powerful. I guess they have remained their operations in secret, so that should not be surprising.
But as Marcus was thinking to himself, Clint suddenly spoke. “Marcus, I found tracks. It seems to have been made six hours ago.”
“Clint, what are you gonna do if we find that creature.?”
“I would say we have low chances of finding that thing. However, this could give us a good hint on what is its normal behavior. That would be a great help for the research team.”
“Wait, you mean there's more of them, Clint!?”
“Of course there's.more of them. It is a category C monster, after all. Even though they are weaklings.”
Marcus scratched his head after hearing Clint speak something new. So he asked, “What's this category C about?”
Clint suddenly snapped his fingers after, realizing something. “I forgot about this, how idiotic of me.”
Clint then looks at Marcus and starts to explain. “I'll be starting my lessons for you, Marcus. So listen carefully.”
Monsters we hunt are divided into six categories. The lowest in the class is category F, which is easily killed by standard weapons, including a gun. Next is known as the weakest monsters, which is class D, they are known as man-eaters, but even humans without cursed tools can eliminate them using traditional beliefs. The next one is the C class, known as the deadly to humans threat, and the chupacabra is included in this list. They might be weak, but when they are together, they are very dangerous.
“So the chupacabra is the monster that a newbie hunter gets to kill. It's the perfect starting point for me.”
“Looks like you get it, Marcus, on why I have brought you here. However, you did perform well and killed a slit-faced woman, a category B, because of its special ability to teleport at unusual places. Another thing is that slit-faced woman is quite intelligent.”
Marcus had a surprised face after hearing the ranking of the slit-faced woman. His sword also joined in the conversation and spoke, “So that explains why I haven't been able to feel her presence.”
“Is it your first time fighting a slit-faced woman?” Clint asked to Marcus's sword.
“That was the first time; look I'm used to fighting Tik-tiks, Tikabalangs, and aswangs. But that woman, I have never seen anything like her.”
“Really! Mister sword!?”
“It's true, Marcus, however, after fighting her. I have familiarized her energy. So anyone of her kin tries to attack us again. We will be prepared. Even this chupacabra that we are hunting, I'm not used to them, however, hearing how weak they are when they're only one kinda turns off my desire to fight.”
Suddenly Clint grabs Marcus's sword and, with a grin, spoke, “Then aren't you glad that you came with me?”
“I'm grateful, but could you please give me back to my owner. I don't want to be touched by a weirdo like you.”
“Fine, but you are sure heavy,” Clint spoke as he gives Marcus's sword back.
“What do you mean by heavy, Clint? Mister sword is very light.” Marcus then performed multiple tricks with his sword.
“That's easy for you to say cause you are under contract with him.”
“Let's stop talking about mister sword, Clint. I want to know more about the monster category you were talking about before.”
“I can explain it to you while we search for that monster's base.”
So Clint and Marcus continued their search. But as they scanned the areas, Clint was explaining the different categories of Monsters.
“Category A is the most dangerous one, that I think you still have chances of defeating. These are monsters that are believed to be created by Gods. One great example is a Cyclops. But the higher category of Monsters is called Category Myth.”
“Category Myth? What are the monsters in that category.”
“Monsters that an army of hunters should defeat or only other monsters can defeat it. An example is the Kraken and the world Serpent.”
“Wait, aren't those mythological creatures written by Greece and Norse?”
Clint smiled at Marcus before answering, “Are you sure they don't exist, Marcus. Remember, there are different possibilities that we still don't know yet.”
Marcus gulped after hearing the category myth monsters. But as he was thinking about that, Clint suddenly yelled.
“Marcus, watch out!”
Marcus who's attention on his surroundings was lost, immediately looks at Clint after hearing him yell. Then he suddenly felt something struck him from behind, knocking him unconscious.
