The first semester in Daytona Beach had gone well for Jake. His debate team had been successful, rising in the ranks from the previous year. His courses had gone well. He seemed to have a good rapport with his students. And in November he’d directed a musical at the college that had received rave reviews.
The previous summer, after getting his degree, he’d received a phone call from a summer stock company that presented plays and musicals in Daytona Beach every year. Their lead had backed out on short notice after being injured in a car accident. The production was to start in just two weeks and using the understudy would mean open slots throughout the rest of the production.
