At Derek Donovan's apartment, him and Cassandra lay quietly on his king-size bed. Derek pulls her into his arms and kisses her passionately on the lips while she stroked his broad chest with her hand.
“Derek.." Cassandra calls him softly as she withdraws from the kiss.
“Yes baby..." Derek murmurs.
“Don't you think is about time we made our relationship solid?"
Derek's eyes goes wide instantly.
“We've been dating for almost a year now, I think it's about time we made the next move". She continued.
Derek's phone suddenly goes off. “I need to take this call". He quickly says as he picks up his phone.
“But we're having a conversation Derek. Can't the call wait?" Cassandra spits angrily. Obviously jealous that it could be another woman calling him.
“Just give me five minutes, I will be back". He pleads as he steps out of the bed.
“You're stepping out to take the call?" Cassandra asks with disbelief.
“Few minutes babe". He says and leaves the room.
Once out of the bedroom, Derek looks at his phone and hesitated a bit before picking his call. His younger brother was the last person he had expected to call him ever.
“Hello Michael..." Derek mutters quietly.
“Derek..." His brother replies, his voice a bit cold.
There's an awkward silence for a moment.
“I'm surprised you called". Derek breaks the silence.
“Yeah, I sincerely didn't want to".
“Why then did you?"
“My fiancee asked me to".
“Your fiancee? Did I hear you right?" Derek asked shocked by he heard.
“Yes. Someone's got to make sure our family legacy lives on".
Derek let's out a uproarious laughter. “Legacy? I wish you well doing that". Derek scoffs.
“Well, I will be getting married soon and you're invited to come if you want to".
“Thanks Michael. It's really nice to know you'll want me to be at your wedding". He pauses, “But..."
“But you won't be attending right?" Michael cuts him off quickly.
“Michael..."
“No need explaining Derek, I wasn't expecting anything different". Michael quickly interjects, and hangs up almost immediately.
Derek bits back a curse as he toss his phone onto the leather seat next to him. He hasn't spoken to his brother in years, and now that they got to speak, they couldn't even have a proper conversation.
“Derek!" Cassandra scream from the bedroom jolts him out of his thoughts.
He sighs deeply. He had totally forgotten about Cassandra. He sighs again and begins to head back to the bedroom when his phone rings again. He looks at his phone. it's an unknown number.
“Hello..." He says as quickly as he picks the call.
“Hello Derek". A sweet feminine voice responds.
“Who am I speaking with please?"
“We haven't met before. I am Rose, your brother's fiancée".
There's a brief silence on the other end of the phone.
“Hello Derek, are you there?"
“Yeah, Rose... I am still here".
“Your brother might have not said it, but he truly wants you to be at our wedding. And I was hoping I could convince you to change your mind".
“Uhmm...does he know you're calling?" Derek asks.
“No, he got upset after the call and left the house". She tells him.
Derek sighs disappointedly. “When is the wedding?"
“No date fixed yet, but we're looking at like in two months time". She informs.
“Okay. I will give an answer before then".
“What? no..." Rose snaps adamantly. “Your only brother is getting married, and you're an event planner I was hoping you'll offer to plan our wedding".
“Plan the wedding? Michael will never agree to that".
“Leave that to me. Just say Yes". She cajoled.
Derek sighs exasperatedly. His brother fiancee wasn't planning to let him off easily. Deep down though he would really love to do that for his brother. At least to make up for the past. “Alright, I will do it".
“Thanks Derek". She says happily, “See you soon".
“See you soon..?" Derek asks, puzzled, but she's already hung up.
“Who's she?" Cassandra intruding voice startles him.
“Who?"
“The lady you've been talking to for the past half an hour". Cassandra demands with a frown forming on her face.
“It's not what you think babe". He says calmly, moving close to hold her but she steps back.
“Is she that short lady that lives at the low land?" She asks fuming.
Derek looks at her with shock, surprised to know she knew about Salome and also where she lived. “Have you been spying on me?"
“Have you been cheating on me?" She snaps back.
“You can't expect to be the only woman I am seeing". Derek says in his defence.
“But you're the only man I am seeing". She retorts.
“I can't do this Cassandra". He sighs and starts walking away.
“You can't do what?" She yells behind him, halting his strides.
“I can't do what you want". He spins around to face her.
“To be mine and mine alone?" She inquires, to be sure she understood him.
He sighs, “Frankly, if diamonds, designers and very much any other fancy thing you desire isn't enough, then you have to look elsewhere".
“Is that all you can offer me Derek?" She says with a teary voice as tears threatened to slip down from her eyes.
He nods quietly.
“What do you see in her?" She says and starts to hit him with both hands on his chest.
“Calm down Cassie, it not her".He says moving away from her “I am not cut out for marriage and the committment stuff".
“That doesn't make any sense. Do you want to remain single for the rest of your life?"
“I better off being by myself". He says.
“Then you shouldn't have made me your girlfriend". She replies adamantly.
“I never did, you just regarded yourself as my girlfriend".
She slaps him hard on his left cheek. But immediately regretted it as she shivers with fear with the look he gave her.
"How dare you? " He glowered.
"I'm so.. sorry... ". She stutters and fled off.
