Derek woke up alone in bed. The sunlight streamed through the open window and informed him it was a new day. For a moment he just stayed, laying in bed quietly. He was going to visit his brother today. The thought of seeing his brother unnerved him. It's been over two weeks since he promised his brother's fiancee he will be coming, but he kept postponing. There was no room to postpone anymore, his brother's wedding was close and he needed to show up as promised. Especially if he was going to plan the event as discussed with Rose.
Derek finally got up and went to his wardrobe. He fetched out his travel bag and started putting some of his clothes into it. He was ready to make things right with Michael. The bedroom door creaks open, interrupting his thoughts. He turns around and sees Cassandra walk in.
“What are you doing here?" He asked. She hasn't come around since their last fall out.
“I came to properly apologize for last time. You've been rejecting my calls". She answers sombrely.
“You've some guts coming to my house". He says angrily and continues to pack his bag.
“Baby, I am sorry". She pleads.
“I am sorry too Cassie". He replies as he zips up his bag.
“Where are you going?" She inquires.
“It's none of your business". He retorts sharply. “Drop my keys and leave. We're done". He tells her, looking sternly in her eyes.
“Derek..." She starts to say but loses her voice, shocked by what he had just said.
“This relationship is long overdue for a break, and I am no longer interested". He continued.
“Derek please..."
“It's over Cassie, give me my keys and leave". He shouts.
“I said I was sorry..." She insists. ”Please Derek". She begs, tears sipping from her eyes. She wasn't ready to lose him.
Derek sighs exasperatedly. What was he going to do with this woman? She was bent on keeping this relationship. But he was so over it. But seeing her cry was so unbearable.“I need space Cassie. Can you give me that?" He asks
“How long?" She asked with a weary voice.
“For the duration of my trip".
“Okay..." She agrees reluctantly.
“When I get back we'll figure out if this can continue or not". He says and pulls her close to him, wiping the tears in her eyes with his hands. “Feel free to get to know other people, because there's a high chance I won't be coming back to you". He continues and her eyes pops open in shock. She wasn't expecting him to say that.
“Derek it's only you I want".
“That's sad, because the feeling isn't mutual". He says and leaves her by herself.
“I love you Derek, why is it so hard for you to see?" She cries out.
“Honey, I am not cut out for love and commitment. It's not my cup of tea". He answers and walks into the bathroom, he wasn't going to miss his flight talking about something he was done and over with.
At the airport, Lisa Summers sighs for the umpteenth time. Her aunt she had come to pick up was no where to be seen. She has been standing for almost twenty minutes, still no sign of her aunt. Her aunt had called her the previous week asking to come visit and wait around until Rose's wedding. She was a widow and had little or nothing to do with her time. Lisa had agreed. The apartment felt empty ever since Rose fully moved into her fiance's house. So it won't be bad to have company.
Derek Donovan strolls out of the airport with his bag in hand and the search for a cab in mind. His brother's fiance had given him their address, and all he had to do was get a cab to take him there. He thought within himself as he eyes wandered around and then stopped when he saw a sensual beauty looking worried and frustrated. Immediately he decides to walk up to her
“Hello beautiful, you look worried. What could be the problem?"
Lisa hesitates as she gives the stranger who has spoken to her a brief glance. “It's my aunt. I have been standing here for the past thirty minutes waiting for her but still no sign of her". She says exasperatedly. “And the crowd isn't helping either".
“ How does your aunt look? Two pair of eyes are far better than a pair".
Lisa smiles at his comment “Okay. Uhm... she's plump size, with dark hair and fair in complexion".
“I think I see someone who fits that description". He quickly tells her and points at a woman who was looking lost.
Lisa screams in excitement. “Yes! She's the one. Thanks a lot sir".
“You're very much welcome". Derek replies, but before he could say more. She has zoomed off to meet her aunt.
Derek considered going to meet them, but a car honk gets in the way of his thought.
“Do you need a ride sir". A cab driver asks, his gaze going to Derek's bag.
Derek sends a quick glance at the beautiful lady he had just met. She was so busy talking excitedly with her aunt, not once did she turn to look at him. She must have totally forgotten about him. He sighs disappointedly and nods at the cab driver.
The cab driver gets down of his cab and helps Derek puts his luggage in the trunk.
“Where are you going sir?"
Derek quickly hands him the address he had neatly written on a paper. “Do you know this place?"
“Yes sir. Your fair is $10". The cab driver replies.
Derek nods in agreement and gets into the cab. As the cab driver starts the engine, Derek could feel goose bumps all over his body. He was going to see Michael soon.
