Chapter 8

Scarlett

I woke and stirred on the soft mattress I was lying on feeling fresh after a long time. I opened my eyes and looked around the room. The room was empty and the light was dimmed.

Then I remembered that I was talking to the Greek god before I fell asleep, a blush made its way to my cheek as I bit my lower lips in embarrassment. I had never talked to any boy in my 17 years of life like this.

I looked around the room for the first time since I woke up. The room was luxurious enough to make anyone know that whoever was the owner, he must be super rich.

I looked at the machinery that was attached to my body earlier and was nowhere to be seen.

I started to get up from bed and walked towards the door dragging my sore body. I hope I can find someone who can help me find alpha. I need to talk to him. I can't stay here for a long time knowing that my father isn't safe.

I swung the door open and peeked outside. I found the hallway was empty. I decided to go anyway, thinking I would find someone. I got out of the room, and started to walk towards god knows where.

Then I heard someone talking and his voice sounded familiar, so I decided to follow that voice through the hallway and reach the stairs. I was about to go down when I heard my name. I stopped and stood at the top of the stairs. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I got curious hearing my name as they barely knew me.

" Do you think someone wants to kill her? I mean the girl you saved," someone said. I didn't have any doubt that he was talking about me. Because I was that girl that the guy named Alpha saved.

" Scarlett. Her name is Scarlett, ``Alpha said in his deep voice, making my heart skip a beat. I don't know why, but I like the way my name sounds in his mouth.

" Yes. I do think someone wants to kill her and not only that, I do think that there's a lot more than that we don't know," the alpha said.

I gasped loudly as both of my hands flew up to my mouth, tears flowing from my eyes freely. I am barely 18. Who on the earth wants me dead? Where is my father? Did he know all this all along? Why just why?

Reels of questions flowed through my head. I didn't know when Alpha ran to me and held me in his warm embrace, as tears made my vision blurry.

" It's okay, princess," he said, taking me out of thought. I blinked my eyes twice before looking at him. I felt my body shaking as I let the newfound information sink into me.

My eyes went wide as the realization hit me hard. How on earth did he know that someone wanted to kill me? Maybe he is the one who knows where my father is? Or maybe he knows the person who wants to kill me or my father or both of us.

I pushed him away and looked at him. He somehow looked hurt by my actions, but right now I don't trust anyone. So I ran towards the room where I woke up because that is the only place there that I am familiar with.

" Scarlett?" I heard him say my name, which only made me increase my pace.

I turned my head once to see if he was following me and when I saw that he was following me with a look that could kill someone, all the hair on my body stood up when I met with his stare.

I ran towards the room and when I reached the room I got in and closed the door before locking it.

My heart was beating against my chest and I could hear my heartbeat. I tried to calm myself down as I closed my eyes. A lone tear rolled down from my eyes and I took a shaky breath.

I flinched away from the door as soon as someone started to bang on the other side of the door, making me more scared than I was.

" Scarlett?" I heard Alpha's voice from the other side of the door.

" Open the door," he said in his grave voice which was unrecognizable to me. Right after that, I heard a growl of an animal which made me take back those horrible memories that I had in that forest. I violently started to shake my head.

" Enough. You are scaring her," I heard the female voice.

" Scarlett, dear. Don't be afraid, you need to come out," she said in her soothing voice. I felt my heart calming down by her gentle and soothing voice but still, I couldn't trust them.

" No!" I said in my shaky voice, my voice broke at the end.

I didn't think that they could hear me from here, but I know they did. They started to talk to each other or should I say argue with each other. I couldn't hear what they were saying so I placed my ears on the wooden door to hear what they were planning.

" Bring her father here!" I heard the alpha order someone.

" Yes, Alpha," he replied.

I gasped loudly before walking back and away from the door. I stared at the closed wooden door in disbelief.

All this while, I was staying with my father's kidnapers. I don't believe in myself. A few moments ago, I was admiring that beast who kidnapped my father and tried to kill me.

Now I understand why he agreed to find my father that easily. He was the one.

Tears were flowing from my eyes uncontrollably. I fell on my knees while still looking at the door. I couldn't think straight about what I should do.

I started to look at my surroundings when my eyes fell on the French-style glass window and it hit me. I could escape from here with my father if I got to know where he is.

I didn't know how many hours I sat there on the floor staring blankly at the door. I was pulled out of my trance as soon as I heard several footsteps approaching the door.

" Scarlett, will you please open the door?" Maria asked.

" Scarlett, listen… alpha started but trailed off, not knowing what to say. The moment I heard his voice, my blood started to boil inside of me. I stood up from the floor and clenched my fists as I glared hard at the door.

"Scarlett baby," all my anger and resentment went away as soon as I heard my father's voice. My eyes went wide as I tried to sink into the fact that my father was here all this while inside of me.

" It's me, baby. Open the door," he said again, making me walk to the door.

" Dad?" I asked in disbelief. As I didn't want to trust them after what I heard from my ears.

" Yes. Now listen to me and be a good girl. Open the door and I promise they won't be able to do anything to you. You are safe, I am safe. Please, I need you to open the door," he said. I took a long breath before placing my hand on the knob of the door. I thought twice before turning the knob.

He was going to say something but before that, I turned that knob and swung the door open. There I met with a deadly glare from the Alpha, but I ignored him and tried to stay focused on my father and on the plan I was making.

My father pulled me into a warm hug as soon as he saw me. I was taken aback at his sudden gesture. This was the first time after that accident that he hugged me like this. Tears were threatening to fall from my eyes because of the sudden overwhelming feeling inside my heart.

" Dad!" I said in between my sobs.

I tried so hard not to look at him, but my gaze betrayed me and when I saw him through my blurry vision, I saw his features softening.

My father pulled away from me and turned to face him, before saying,

" Alpha, I need some time with my daughter," he said. I looked at him and saw him raising an eyebrow at my father with a questioning look on his face.

" She… she is afraid," my father said again and he sounded scared this time.

" Make it quick," he said, before turning on his heels and walking away from us. All of his men followed behind him, leaving both of us alone in the room.
