Chapter Two

2994 Words
“I hate you!” I heard Allysa scream as she slammed her bedroom door. They’re home. I thought to myself. “I can’t deal with her!” Dylan yelled as he walked into our bedroom and mimicked his younger sister by slamming our door. “I just got the twins to bed, be quiet.” I chastised. He sighed and let his shoulders relax as he sat on our bed. I immediately walked toward him and wrapped my arms around his neck while standing between his legs. We stayed like that for a moment before I let go but stayed in the same place.  “Sorry.” “What does she hate you for this time?”  “Because I told her she isn’t allowed to see that girl again.” He huffed and I rolled my eyes. “That isn’t going to stop her, if anything that will make her sneak out even more.” “Well then what do you suppose I do here, because I’m running out of ideas B.” He ran a hand through his hair as he spoke in exasperation. “I’ll talk to her, maybe I can get through to her.” “If me and Dani can’t get through to her then I doubt you can.” He huffed with annoyance evident in his voice. “First, lose the attitude. You’re upset with your sister, not me. Second, even if it doesn’t work I still tried.” “You’re right, I’m sorry.”  He pulled me in for another hug, laying his head on my chest as I placed a kiss on his hair. I glanced at the clock on his nightstand from over his shoulder. “But that will have to wait until later because I am late for work.” I sighed and pulled out of his embrace. “The kids will be asleep for the next two hours, when they wake up Zachary and Dani will be back to watch them. I love you, please don’t kill your sister. Either of them. If she starts pissing you off, tell her to come to the hospital and I’ll put her to work.” I rushed around the room to find my sneakers and put them on. I grabbed my backpack before giving Dylan a soft yet chaste kiss. “I love you too!” He shouted as I ran out of the room. Sleeping. Babies. Be quiet! I yelled through our mind link. I’m sorry. Again.  I rolled my eyes as a smile danced it’s way onto my lips. The breezy April weather nipped at my nose while I walked to my car. Since we moved we were a good distance from the pack hospital and I had to drive instead of walk there sadly. As soon as I opened my door I watched a car pull into the driveway before parking next to me. “He’s inside, probably in the basement. I just got Wynter to finally take a nap with the twins about fifteen minutes ago.” I hugged Addie without giving her a chance to speak.  “Thank you.” Her voice was muffled in my tangled hair. “Alice won’t keep giving you hair ties.” She pulled a red hair tie off of her wrist and held it out for me. It was only then that I realized I hadn’t put my hair up. I smiled appreciatively at her while pulling my short hair into a bun that only half of it would fit into.  “Go inside and take a nap.”  I gave her another quick hug before jumping in my car and rushing out of the parking area. It was a short drive to the hospital but longer than I had gotten used too. After a little over ten minutes I was pulling into a parking spot next to Alice’s car only to see that she had already gone inside the hospital. I grabbed my bag from the passenger seat and ran inside, nearly tripping over my untied shoes twice. “Blake! Come on, how can you help other people if you fall on your face from your shoe laces being untied?” Alice looked at me disapprovingly as I ran into her office.  “My bad.” I bent down to tie them, smacking my forehead on the edge of her desk and groaning in pain. “Ugh!” My voice raised in volume in annoyance. “Breathe.” Alice stood from her chair and walked over to me, standing in front of me as I stood up straight. “Today is already going to be an intense day, you need to get your head in the game. Take a minute to compose yourself and breathe , then meet me at the nurse’s station.” She smiled gently at me before walking out. I stood in the middle of the room taking continuous deep breaths before walking over to the small red couch to sit down and tie my shoes. I sat there for a moment more before taking another deep breath and walking out of her office to meet her. “Are you ready for today, Luna?” Alice greeted me with a warm smile, brushing off our initial encounter. “Yes, I am.” I beamed. “Remember, if you need me I am only a mindlink away and this is only for a few hours. I don’t want to overwhelm you the first time you treat patients by yourself. Remember that healing is only for intense situations, if there is a way to handle it without added magical ability then we try that first.” “Yes ma’am. We want our wolves to learn how to handle themselves without a healer’s powers because without possessing them yourself, they are unreliable.” “Good job.” She smiled with pride in her eyes. “Now go.” I immediately did as I was told and started making my rounds to people who needed treatment. As Luna I was always treated with the highest respect and priority but I loved working with Alice because to her I wasn’t just Luna, I was a pack member with healing abilities who wanted to help. Nearly an hour into my day and I felt more accomplished than I thought I would. You busy? I heard my mate’s voice in my mind. Just sat down to eat something then going back to work. Are the babies okay?  The babies are fine. You said that if Ally starts pissing me off then send her to you. Is that offer still valid? I smiled softly to myself. I was proud of him for being able to be aware of his emotions and when things were getting to be too much. I pulled out my phone to text my best friend. Are you still at my house and have you slept at all? I took a bite of the granola bar I had got from the vending machine while waiting for his response. I glanced back at my phone when I felt it buzz.  No I’m not but yes I have slept. Addie got up with Wynter so I fell asleep and woke up about an hour ago. Just dropped both of them off at home because she didn’t want to drive. What’s up? I sighed in content at the fact that he had gotten some sleep before answering. Can you do me a massive favor and bring Allysa up to the hospital? I would tell her to shift and run here but I’m 90% sure if I told her that she would go back to her girlfriends house. It had been nearly ten minutes of waiting when he finally responded. Just pulled into the driveway. Tell her to come outside. I smiled to myself, I truly had the most amazing friend. Austin is in the driveway to pick her up. Tell her to pack a lunch and shoes that won’t kill her feet.  Dylan didn’t respond to the mindlink but I could feel his presence in my head so I knew he heard me. I was taking my time getting ready to go back to work when I heard one of the nurses link me. Luna, we need you! Room 508! Was all that came but it sounded rushed. I bolted out of the lounge and ran toward the room. Luckily I was already on the fifth floor so I reached the room in less than a minute. “What’s going on? I was just here an hour ago!” I shouted as I ran to the girl on the bed.  She was 15 and had gotten into a fight with a witch who spelled her. The poison from the spell should have left her system by itself by the end of the day so I kept her here to watch over. “Her eyes turned black and she started saying incantations we didn’t understand. When I came over to see what was going on she started seizing!” A male nurse that I didn’t recognize explained. I put my hand on her forehead and within ten seconds her body had quit convulsing and her eyes shut. “What did you do?” The same male nurse questioned me. “I put her to sleep so I can examine what is in her system. The story she told me isn’t the whole truth, someone find out who this girl's parents are and call them. She is in for a long night and she will need her family.” I sighed as the nurses rushed out of the room. I sat on a chair next to her bed before placing my hand back on her forehead and diving into her mind. Everything seemed normal, until I felt the blood rush through her veins. I watched the scene play behind my eyes as if a movie in my mind and watched what had really happened. The little witch didn’t poison her, they conspired together to become hybrids so she fed the witch her blood and the witch did the same. Her body was rejecting the different DNA and sending her system into overdrive. If her body was doing this then I could only imagine the witch was doing the same. I walked out of her room and to the nurses station that was right across. “Get her on a blood transfusion. She has witch blood in her system and she will continue to get sick until it is flushed out.” The woman nodded at me before scurrying off. I sat down in the chair that the nurse was previously sitting in and pulled out my phone to call the only other person who could deal with the witch. “Hello?” I heard her sweet voice through the phone. “Maggie, how are you?” “I’m doing good, Blake, but that isn’t the reason you called me.”  “You know me too well,” I sighed before explaining the situation. “I need you to find a witch, around age fifteen, dirty blonde hair, brown eyes. If I saw her I would know her. I have a young wolf in my hospital who was trying to become a hybrid along with the witch but her body is rejecting the blood.” “So the witch is probably lying in the forest somewhere also rejecting the blood.” She spoke my thoughts. “Yep. Find her and bring her to the hospital for me so I can get it sorted out? I would do it myself but Allyssa is on her way up here and I’m only halfway through my patients.” “I’ve got you. I’ll be there in an hour with the girl.” We both hung up and I breathed out a sigh of relief. Maggie was much better at locating witches than I was anyway so she would have an easier time. Pros to being hundreds of years old.  I’m in the lobby.  I heard Ally’s voice in my head so I stood from my spot and walked across the hospital to her. Once I saw her I knew she was annoyed but I didn’t have time to have a heart to heart to find out why.  “Hey, are you ready?” I smiled softly. “Depends on what I’m doing.” “Well, you can make rounds with me or you can follow a nurse around. Your choice.” She huffed out in response but spoke up nevertheless. “I’ll go with you.”  “Okay, follow me. We are fixing to go into a room with a little boy who got attacked as a rogue. He and his family are set to join the pack but since they haven’t yet, they were attacked, since he is so young I’m going to heal him. You can watch.” She followed close behind me as I spoke and soon we were walking into a room on the second floor. “Hey Miles! How are you today? I swear you’ve grown an entire foot since I last saw you!” I exclaimed with a grin and the little boy lit up.  His body was cut up and bruised, matching his parents but their injuries were far worse. I felt bad that the little boy had to endure such pain without understanding. I heard Ally gasp as she saw his injuries but she never spoke. “Hi Luna.” The boy smiled but he was exhausted. “I’m gonna fix you right up and then you can go home, okay? I’m going to make sure this never happens to you again.” I walked to the side of his bed and looked down at him. I glanced at his parents for the okay and once they nodded I let my hands hover over his tiny frame and watched the golden light glow from my skin. His cuts closed up and the bruises faded back into the beautiful chocolate color that his skin held. After a minute or two his entire body was healed and the little boy was beaming at me with joy in his eyes. “Thank you Luna!” He squealed, throwing his arms around my neck. “Any time, Miles. I want you to know that anytime something happens or you get hurt, you can always come to me, okay?” I hugged him. “Okay. Mommy and Daddy’s turn now.” I didn’t tend to heal adults with physical injuries unless they were life or death but with this little boy staring at me waiting for me to make his parents feel better, I couldn’t refuse. “Do you both want me to heal you?” I glanced at the boy's parents. “Oh no! We don’t want to be a bother, we will heal in time.” His mother smiled at me. “Really, I insist. This happened because your initiation into the pack got delayed so as Luna it is my job to make up for the attack.” They looked at each other for a second, most likely sharing a mindlink before the husband nodded toward me.  “That would be truly appreciated, Luna.”  I smiled before repeating the same actions I had on their son and healing them. Fifteen minutes later they were all discharged and ready to leave. “Call the Alpha in a few hours, we will get you into this pack today. And again, my apologies that it got delayed and you had to suffer the consequences. I assure you, nothing like what happened today will happen to you again.” I bid my goodbyes to the parents and gave a big hug to Miles before they made their way out of the hospital. “Is this what you do every day?” Allyssa whispered to me in awe. I never go to see her happy, let alone impressed, so her expression made me feel another level of pride in myself. “Yes and I love it. Nothing is better than knowing that I am truly helping the people who look up to me and depend on me.” I smiled softly to her and surprisingly, she returned the same gentle expression. “Now, we have a couple more people to see and then we will be done for the day. When we leave, how about we make a stop to see your girlfriend, yeah?” Her eyes widened in surprise before a grin beamed across her face.  “Really? Yes! Can she come over?”  “No, she is still human and we are still wolves and we can’t risk her finding out yet. But we can  pick her up and go get dinner. We’ll pick up the kids and make a day of it.”  Ally was silent for a minute before she did something that truly surprised me. I felt the young girl wrap her arms around my waist and bury her head into my shoulder as she hugged me. I was so stunned that it took me a second to respond to her outward affection but I soon welcomed it. “Thank you, Blake.”
