A watchman deflected a heavy blow and stumbled into Ra’idah’s path. She sprang to the right and shifted her blade over her left shoulder. Its edge glided through the back of his neck as she outran the spray of blood. Her sword was already en route to the next target. The scimitar hacked the back of a shaved skull. The guard was a beast of a man. Were he not a soldier, he’d have nothing else to do. His fists clenched and his arms tensed as if in rigor mortis, but he was still alive. His eyes rolled back and blinked wildly as he collapsed to his knees. The momentum tugged Ra’idah onto the bridge. The dry wood scraped her elbow as she tumbled past him.
