SELENE WANTED to get up from her chair and help the servants serving breakfast outside the patio of the Octavius estate. She’s still not used to having people helping her on things she could do herself—like making breakfast for example, which looked really good by the way. She didn’t realize she was actually hungry until there was food on the table.
Godric was looking at her, smiling. Silas was joining but his attention was on his laptop that was sitting on the side of his coffee.
“Why did you have to bother everyone for this? I can make myself a sandwich,” she said quietly when the servants returned inside the house.
“It’s just breakfast, Selene,” Godric said. “It’s okay.”
After their cozy encounter at the lagoon, and hearing about Godric’s past relationship from Silas, Selene decided to keep her distance from Godric as it would distract her from the real reason she was there for in the first place—to work as his assistant. She has been too caught up in the fantasy of it all that she forgot that she was there only to work for him and nothing more.
Godric must have sensed it from the formal responses she was using to talk to him all day yesterday and the way she always averts her eyes when he’s talking to her. Now, he’s giving it another shot by making her breakfast—or rather, asking his staff to make breakfast for her. He didn’t even leave her room as he waited for her to get ready when he asked her to join him and Silas for breakfast.
This is really making her confused. She wished he would stop keeping her hopes up.
Selene decided to eat quickly so she could leave and lock herself up in her room. She’s not working today and she didn’t want to be around Godric’s presence and let herself be fooled all over again.
She grabbed a piece of bread and put some eggs on her plate. She ate quietly and tried to ignore Godric who was still staring at her.
“You’re mad at me,” he suddenly said.
Silas looked up from his laptop and looked at the two of them. “Who? Me?”
Godric shook his head. “No. Selene is.”
She almost choked on her eggs. She grabbed the glass of fresh-squeezed juice beside her plate and drank it. “I don’t know what you are talking about,” she said, putting the glass back on the table.
Godric propped his elbow on the table and placed his chin on his right palm, looking straight at her. “You are. You can’t even look at me.”
Silas sighed and leaned on his chair. “Seriously, could you two get a room?”
“I’d like that,” Godric replied.
She threw sharp stares at Silas who just shrugged it off. “Stop kidding like that.”
Silas looked confused. “Why is it my fault? I wasn’t the one who said he wanted to do it.”
“What’s wrong, Selene? Did I do something?” Godric asked.
Selene refused to respond, she just chewed on her food carefully.
Silas looked back and forth between the two of them. “Should I leave you two?” He sighed.
“No!” Selene involuntarily raised her voice.
“Yes,” Godric spoke.
Godric and Selene looked at each other when they realized they answered at the same time but said different things. She averted her eyes again, not wanting to be drawn to his eyes.
Silas nodded. “I’ll just leave.”
She wanted to pull Silas back to the table. How can he leave her alone with Godric? It’s only gotten more awkward.
What am I going to do?
“What’s going on?” Godric asked when Silas was already inside the house. “You were certainly not very distant yesterday at the lagoon.”
Selene’s face flushed. “I would appreciate it if you stop talking about it.” She paused shortly. “Sir,” she added.
Godric chuckled. “What’s with all the formality? I thought we agreed to be more comfortable with each other.”
“I didn’t say anything like that,” she defended.
“You maybe didn’t say it, but what happened at the lagoon is like our non-verbal agreement.”
“Why do you keep talking about what happened yesterday?”
Godric stared at her, tilting his head slightly. “By any chance, do you want to forget that it happened?”
“It was unnecessary. You’re my boss, I’m only your employee. It shouldn’t have happened.”
Godric sighed. He pushed himself out of his chair to approach her. Selene yelped when he suddenly turned her chair a bit to face him and leaned into her, holding the armrest of the chair.
“Don’t say things to your convenience, Selene. I have been trying to restrain myself from ruining you, but you like teasing me.”
Selene couldn’t blink. She stared deep into the gorgeous vampire’s eyes. “When did I ever tease you?”
“You keep saying there should be boundaries between us, yet when I touch you, you never refuse. Why are you lying to yourself?”
She pressed her lips. How dare he put her on the spot like this?
Of course, she wanted to be touched by him. She wanted him. Ever since he walked into Café Bliss and she first saw him, she had wanted to be near him. She couldn’t deny herself the chance of being touched by him especially when she didn’t even need to work hard for it. She’s not being easy, either. The attraction just was so intense, she gravitates towards him.
But she knew that despite being someone he needs because she got something only she has, she couldn’t be someone he would be interested in on an intimate level. What happened yesterday was probably just a spur of the moment thing.
She couldn’t allow herself to be lead on by his words and actions. It just doesn’t make sense for a handsome, powerful blood being like him to like her.
“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say, Godric. W-will you let me have my breakfast in peace, please?” She politely requested, trying not to meet his eyes.
Godric grinned. “Look at me, Selene.”
“Go back to your chair and have breakfast, Godric. You don’t have to have such a close-up conversation with me.”
“Look at me,” he said, again.
When it looked like he wouldn’t budge unless she does as he says, Selene focused her eyes on him. The instant she did, Godric lowered his face to claim her mouth.
Selene’s eyes widened. Oh my God! He’s kissing me again!
Her heart thumped wildly in her chest, deafening her. Godric took his hands from the armrest of the chair she’s sitting in to cup her cheeks. He slightly lifted her face so he could properly kiss her. She slowly closed her eyes, feeling every movement of his mouth, letting his tongue tease her bottom lip.
When their lips parted, her eyes slowly fluttered open. She was still dizzy from the spell his kiss had put on her. This is why it was very difficult to stay away from him. Even though she knew could end up hurt and broken by him, she didn’t mind.
“I don’t get why you still don’t believe that I like you not because you’re a spellblood. What part of this is still confusing to you?”
Selene swallowed. “Everything,” she murmured. “How can you actually like me?”
“How can I not like you?” Godric smiled. “You’re not the type that will allow just anyone to touch you or kiss you just because they say they like you, Selene. Just the fact that you let me do these things means you like me, too. So, why are we playing hide and seek?”
She was speechless. She struggled to say a word to him.
“I truly like you, Selene. As a woman. Not as someone I can feed off of. Not as a spellblood. I like you because you are you.”
Her heart was brimming with happiness. She was scared he could hear her heart beating so fast in her chest.
Godric stared at her mouth and brushed her bottom lip with his thumb. “Do I have to prove it to you?”
She stared back at his eyes with the same intensity. “Take me,” she said. “You always tell me you’re just restraining yourself when I’m around. But you don’t have to. Take me, Godric.”
Godric’s adam’s apple bobbed up and down.
“You can’t do it, can you? Because you don’t really like me. How can you say you like someone, but loathe the idea of taking them to bed? Does that make sense to you?”
Godric’s face darkened.
Selene put her hands on his arms to push him away. “See? So, don’t do this again. We should keep our relationship professional as it should have been from the beginning. I will just forget that—”
She gasped when she felt Godric’s arm on her waist. In a second, he had lifted her from her chair, climbed up the stairs, and came inside his room. She only realized that they were no longer on the patio when she heard the loud slamming of his door.
“I don’t have to restrain myself you said?” He said under his breath, unbuttoning the cuff of his shirt. “Okay, I hear you.”
“Do you pity me too much that you have to force yourself?” She started walking towards the door. “You don’t have to go this far, Godric.”
But like a wind that flew past her, Godric grabbed her and pinned her down on the bed. Panic registered her face as she looked up at the blood being.
Godric looked way intimidating than usual. His eyes are empty and their irises are a bright crimson color.
“G-Godric…” She whimpered.
He was breathing hard. He put his mouth near her ear. “No one is going to come inside that door and stop me once I start. Even if you scream, even if you beg, no one is going to help you. Not even me, no matter how much you plead, or how much I’m going to hurt you.”
Her breasts heaved up and down. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m saying that I’m giving you a chance to still say no, Selene. Because once I start, there’s no way I’m going to stop.”
She swallowed the huge lump in her throat. Despite how vulnerable she is beneath him, she’s not scared. But how much is it going to hurt that he needs to warn her anyway?
“Are you just saying that because I’m a virgin?”
A flicker of surprise flashed in Godric’s eyes. “You are?” He loosened her hands that he was pinning on the mattress. He slowly climbed down the bed, too. “f**k! I’ll definitely hurt you. I can’t do this.”
Selene felt frustrated. She was getting a little excited, too. What is he doing? She pushed herself up.
“What do you mean, Godric? Is being a virgin a major turn-off for you?” She asked, grabbing his arm and stopping him from leaving.
He already touched her yesterday, does that make her still a virgin? And why is it an issue anyway?
“Do you want to lose it to a beast like me?” He asked.
“What if I say yes?” She said unhesitatingly.
Godric paused. Then, a short chuckle filled with disbelief escaped his mouth. “You’re crazy.”
“You make me crazy, Godric.”
Godric kissed her. And their lips met again and again until her back touched the soft mattress where she was lying just a couple of seconds ago.
