Zeus strode into the dimly lit rear chamber of the Italian Mafia headquarters, his rage visible in his eyes. As he swept the room, his fist gripped around the handle of his gold-plated cane, and he took in the stern expressions of his top lieutenants. When he walked in, they all gazed up at him, some with terror in their eyes.
"Someone's going to pay for what occurred last night," Zeus muttered, his voice low and threatening. "I can't believe I was ambushed in such a way."
He slapped his fist on the table, rattling a few glasses. His lieutenants exchanged anxious glances, none of them willing to be the first to speak.
Finally, one of them, a little man with slicked-back hair and a pencil-thin mustache, moved forward. "Boss, we still don't know who did it. "We're currently looking into it."
"I don't care if you have to flip this city," Zeus growled. "Find out who was behind the attack and hold them accountable." "I'd like to have their heads on a tray."
His subordinates nodded, but Zeus could tell they were nervous. He didn't hold it against them. The attack on the ball had been audacious, and the fact that it had been carried out in his home territory had dealt a significant blow to his ego.
"I trusted that son of a b***h," Zeus said, recalling his close confidante who had planned the event. "He told me that we did not require personal security. He thought it would be a sign of weakness."
He went back and forth, his mind racing with retribution plans. He couldn't let this happen again. He had no choice but to send a message to anyone who dared to cross him.
"Bring me a list of all the big players in this city," Zeus told his men. "I'd like to know who is on my side and who is working against me." And make certain they realize what will happen to anyone who crosses me."
His lieutenants nodded and scribbled notes in their notebooks. Zeus was well aware of their devotion to him, yet he couldn't help but be curious. After all, if his close friend had lied to him, who could he trust?
Zeus left the room with a mental note to keep a closer check on his subordinates. He couldn't afford to relax his guard even for a second. The ball attack had acted as a wake-up call, a reminder that even the city's most powerful man was not invincible. Zeus, on the other hand, was adamant about winning regardless of the circumstances.
Zeus' thoughts were drawn to the gorgeous doctor who had treated him after the attack as he went through the hallways of the headquarters. He couldn't seem to get her out of his mind. For the first time in many years, her kind touch and calming words calmed him down and made him feel vulnerable.
"Enzo," Zeus mumbled to his right-hand man, who had been following him discreetly. "I want you to learn everything you can about Dr. Evelyn." Her whole name, residence, and workplace are all revealed."
Enzo arched an eyebrow, perplexed by his boss's apparent fascination with the doctor. "Think about it, Mr. Boss."
Zeus slumped back in his chair, his mind whirling with Evelyn's recollections. Zeus couldn't stop himself from wondering who she was and what her story was. He'd seen a lot of females in his time, but there was something special about her. It may have been her manner or the fact that she appeared so out of place in his world of crime and violence that drew him in. He couldn't recall the last time he was completely smitten by a woman. Even with a lovely doctor, he felt he couldn't let down his guard. He was aware that he could have any woman he wanted, but Evelyn had piqued his interest.
He leaned forward in his chair, already planning his next move. That would be a challenging undertaking, but he was up for it. After all, whenever Zeus set his mind to something, he always obtained what he desired.
Meanwhile, Evelyn spent the next three days trying to forget her interaction with Zeus. She immersed herself in her work at the hospital, seeking to deflect her focus away from her problems. Despite her best efforts, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched.
She started receiving anonymous phone calls, and when she answered, there was no one on the other end of the line. She found strange gifts with no return address left on her porch. Someone tried to gain her attention, but she had no idea who it was.
One day, she got a package with a note. "Dear Evelyn," the note started. I understand your concern, but I want you to know that I will stand up for you. Consider what I can provide. " It was simply signed, "Z."
As she read the message, Evelyn's heart skipped a beat. She recognized it as Zeus's, and the notion of him watching her every step made her anxious. Evelyn was first concerned about how Zeus found out about her flat, but then she realized that he was a mafia leader—and not just any mob boss, but the most powerful on the planet. She wanted to discard the message, but something compelled her to keep it.
Evelyn's life returned to normal as the days turned into weeks. She went back to work at the hospital, where she treated patients and saved lives. But she would occasionally catch a glimpse of someone observing her from the shadows. She couldn't tell if it was just her imagination or if she was being followed. She attempted to dismiss it all, telling herself that it was all in her head, but the sensation of dread persisted. She began securing her doors and windows and even reported the bizarre incidents to the police. They rejected her as neurotic and advised her to be cautious. She didn't inform Venessa since she didn't want her to be concerned. Yet the persistent anxiety was making her feel uneasy. That disrupts her typical routine.
Despite her best efforts, the unexplained parcels and anonymous phone calls continued to arrive, making it difficult to go on. Then, while she was getting ready for bed one night, she heard a faint sound outside her flat. She froze and listened closely. She could hear footsteps approaching her door as the sound became louder. Her pulse was racing as she walked softly to the door and peered through the peephole.
She could see the outline of a man standing at her door, but she knew it wasn't him. Her instincts warned her not to open the door, but her curiosity won out. She slowly opened the door, her eyes widening in astonishment as she saw Zeus standing in front of her.
"Evelyn," he said quietly and ominously. "I've been waiting for you."
Evelyn stepped back. Her location between Zeus and the entryway irritated her. She saw the fire in his eyes and realized she was in grave danger.
"What do you expect from me?" she said, barely audible.
Zeus leaned in closer, his breath scorching her cheek. "You already know what I want, Evelyn. "I'd like you to join me."
Evelyn shook her head, her heart pounding. "I'm afraid I can't do it, Zeus; I can't risk my life or the lives of my loved ones."
Zeus smiled. "Oh, Evelyn." You are very naive. Do you think you can simply walk away from me and everything will be fine? Do you believe you can just say no and I will ignore you? Evelyn, you are now mine. And you'll obey my directions."
Evelyn's heart sank as she realized she was entirely out of her element. She realized she couldn't talk reason into Zeus and knew she had to get out of there before it was too late.
Zeus grabbed her arm as she attempted to flee, his hold hard and uncompromising. Evelyn attempted to fight him off, but he was just too powerful. As he dragged her towards the door, she could feel terror mounting within her.
Evelyn's heart was beating in her chest. She pushed him, attempting to get him free, but it was futile. She was imprisoned, and she was aware of it.
Zeus abruptly came to a halt, and Evelyn could feel his breath on her neck. He leaned in, his lips brushing across her ear, and she shuddered.
"You can't get away from me, Evelyn," he said quietly. "You are now mine."
And then he kissed her, his lips pressing fiercely against hers. Evelyn attempted to resist but couldn't stop her body's reaction to him. Her knees began to buckle, and she found herself melting into his grip.
They lurched over to the couch, their mouths locked in a ferocious hug. Zeus' hands were all over her body, probing it with a desire that left her breathless. Evelyn had become engrossed at the moment, her thoughts devoured by the fire of their love.
Then it was done. Evelyn awoke, her body drenched in perspiration, and realized it had all been a nightmare. She was taken aback by how vivid it seemed and how profoundly Zeus had touched her. She'd never had a wet dream about a guy before, and the dream's intensity had her reeling.
The doorbell rang as she attempted to gather her breath. She paused for a second, wondering whether it was Zeus at the door. But then she shook her head and stood up to respond. She couldn't allow her dread to take over. Before opening the door, she took a deep breath.
It was a tall and gorgeous man with black hair and a charming demeanor she had never seen before.
"Hi, Evelyn," he murmured, his voice confident and silky. "My name is Lucas, and I'm here to deliver a message from Zeus."
Evelyn's pulse beat as she stared up at the man, feeling both terrified and interested.
"What message?" she inquired, barely above a whisper.
"He wants to meet with you," Lucas said coldly. "He wants to give you another opportunity to work with him. And he's eager to make it worthwhile for you."
