Zeus sat at his desk, his fingers impatiently pounding across the glossy wood. He'd asked Lucas to relay a message to Evelyn, asking her to meet him at his office. He was aware that he had gone on too strong previously, but he couldn't stop himself. Something about her drew him in—something he couldn't put his finger on. He just knew he needed her on his squad.
When he heard a knock on the door, he said, "Come in."
Lucas strolled along the street with a cheeky look on his face. "Hey," he murmured as he leaned on the desk. "How are you doing?"
"Did you deliver the message to her, Lucas?" Zeus inquired, his deep voice tinged with irritation.
Lucas laughed, knowing that his friend was impatient. "Yes, I did." She, on the other hand, was not pleased. "
Zeus c****d his brow. "What exactly do you mean?"
"She seemed pretty angry that I followed her," Lucas added. "But I gave her your message, and she said she would think about it."
Zeus gave a meaningful nod. "Good. We'll have to wait and see whether she changes her mind."
Lucas took a step forward. "Zeus, may I ask you a question?"
Zeus motioned for him to go on.
"Why are you so interested in this girl?" Lucas inquired. "I mean, she seems nice and all, but you don't usually go after someone like her."
Zeus groaned and shifted his sight to the papers on his desk. "I'm not sure, Lucas. There's simply something about her. Maybe it's the challenge of getting someone who's not easily swayed by my charm."
Lucas laughed. "Ah, yes. "So all you want to do is add her to your collection?"
Zeus smiled, his eyes mischievously glinting. "I suppose you could say that. But there's something unusual about her. You know how I sense a connection? Something I haven't experienced in a long time."
Lucas c****d his brow. "Is there a link?" Zeus, you never make promises. "What makes this girl any different?"
Zeus shook his head. "I'm not sure, Lucas. I simply want to give it a try. And if it doesn't work out between us, there are plenty of other fish to catch."
Lucas nodded in agreement. "I see. So, I'm hoping she changes her mind. It'd be nice to watch you put some effort into someone for a change."
Lucas was doubtful. "However, what if she refuses to work with us? What if she doesn't want to be a part of this world?"
Zeus leaned back in his chair. "I know, but I have a plan. If she refuses, I'll just have to convince her in other ways."
Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Other ways? What do you mean?"
Zeus smirked. "Let's just say I have a few tricks up my sleeve."
"And what if those tricks don't work too?" He raised his eyebrows in question.
Zeus's expression turned serious. "Then we'll have to make sure she doesn't become a liability."
Lucas frowned. "What do you mean?"
"I mean that if she refuses to work with us, we'll have to get rid of her," Zeus said bluntly.
Lucas's eyes widened. "You mean kill her?"
Zeus nodded. "I don't like it any more than you do, Lucas. But we can't take any chances. She's seen too much already. If she refuses to work with us, she becomes a threat to our organization."
Lucas shook his head. "I don't know, Zeus. Killing an innocent woman seems a bit extreme, even for us."
Zeus leaned back in his chair, considering Lucas's words. He knew his friend had a point, but he also knew that in their line of work, sentimentality could be a weakness.
"I'll think about it, Lucas," Zeus said finally. "But let's hope it doesn't come to that."
Lucas nodded, looking relieved. "Yeah, let's hope so."
In another scene
Evelyn paced back and forth in her small apartment, her mind racing with conflicting thoughts. On the one hand, she knew working for Zeus would be dangerous and unethical. On the other hand, she couldn't deny the thrill she felt at the prospect of being part of something so powerful and mysterious.
After several days of agonizing, she finally made a decision. She would meet with Zeus and tell him she couldn't work for him. She needed to see him in person, to look him in the eye, and to make it clear that she wasn't interested.
She arrived at the designated location that Lucas gave to Evelyn, a dimly lit alleyway in the heart of the city. Evelyn's heart raced as she approached the dimly lit alleyway, her steps quickening with each passing moment. She knew that she had to face Zeus and tell him once and for all that she couldn't work for him. She could feel her palms sweating and her stomach churning as she approached the figure leaning against the brick wall.
"Hello, Dr. Santos," Zeus said, his voice smooth as silk. "I'm glad you decided to meet with me."
Evelyn swallowed hard, attempting to maintain her cool. "Let's make this quick, shall we?" she replied, her voice rushing. She wanted this to be over as soon as possible, so Zeus merely smiled and motioned toward his car, which was parked at the end of the alleyway. "Of course," he said, "please accompany me."
Evelyn said nothing and simply followed Zeus to the end of the alley where Zeus' car was parked. She felt a range of emotions as she sat next to him in the vehicle. On the one hand, she was enraged that he had followed her after she declined to work with him. She, on the other hand, was still pulled toward him, unable to resist his allure and magnetism.
Evelyn's heart was pounding as she sat in the passenger seat of Zeus' sleek black car, the leather interior cool against her skin. She had rehearsed this conversation in her head a thousand times, but now that she was face-to-face with the man himself, her words felt jumbled and inadequate.
Zeus was dressed impeccably, as always, his expensive suit and silk tie making him look like he belonged on the cover of a men's fashion magazine rather than in the driver's seat of a Mafia leader's car. He caught her eye and gave her a smile that made her stomach flip.
"You look beautiful, as always," he said, his voice low and seductive.
Evelyn felt a flush rise to her cheeks, but she quickly composed herself.
"What do you want from me, Zeus?" She demanded, trying to show some dominance so she wouldn't sound too weak.
"I just wanted to talk to you," he said calmly. "I wanted to explain myself and apologize for any discomfort I may have caused you."
Evelyn remained skeptical. "Explain yourself? You offered me a job, I declined, and then you followed me. What's there to explain?"
Zeus sighed. "I know I came on strong, and I'm sorry for that. But I see something special in you, Evelyn. I see someone who could make a real difference in the world. And I want to help you do that."
Evelyn shook her head. "I don't want to be involved with the mafia, Zeus. I don't want to be part of your world."
Zeus leaned forward, his intense gaze locking onto hers. "But don't you see, Evelyn? You already are. You saved my life, and in doing so, you became part of my world. You can't escape it now." Zeus's voice became thick at the end of the sentence.
Evelyn felt a surge of anger rise within her. "I'm not here because I'm interested in your offer," she said, her tone sharp. "I'm here to tell you I can't work for you. It's too dangerous, and it goes against everything I believe in."
Zeus raised an eyebrow. "I see. And why did you come to this decision?"
Evelyn clenched her fists. "That's not the point. The point is, I'm not interested."
Zeus leaned back in his seat and studied Evelyn, his expression unreadable. "I see," he said softly. "But tell me, Evelyn, what will you do now? You've seen too much, and you know too much. Can you really walk away from all of this, knowing what you know?"
Evelyn narrowed her eyes, feeling a hint of fear creeping in. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.
Zeus chuckled. "You're a terrible liar, Evelyn. You're smart and resourceful, and you have a conscience. That's a rare combination in our line of work. You could do so much good if you let yourself."
Evelyn shook her head. "I can't compromise my ethics for a job, Zeus. I won't do it."
Zeus leaned in closer, his eyes blazing with intensity. "But what if it's not just a job, Evelyn? What if it's something more? What if it's a chance to make a real difference in the world? To change things for the better?"
Evelyn felt a knot form in her stomach. She knew what Zeus was trying to do, and part of her was tempted. But she also knew there was no turning back once she got involved with the mafia. She had seen firsthand the brutality and corruption that came with it, and she couldn't live with herself if she became part of that world.
"I'm sorry, Zeus," she said firmly. "But my answer is still no. I can't work for you."
Zeus's eyes narrowed, his smile turning into a scowl. "You're making a big mistake, Evelyn," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "You don't know what you're up against. You have no idea what we're capable of."
Evelyn's heart was pounding, but she refused to back down. "I don't care," she said defiantly. "I'd rather die than become part of your world. I won't let you use me."
Zeus's eyes flashed with anger, and for a moment, Evelyn thought he was going to lash out at her. But instead, he took a deep breath and forced a smile. "Fine," he said, his voice icy. "But don't say I didn't warn you."
As Evelyn stepped out of the car, her heart pounding with fear and adrenaline, she immediately sensed something was wrong. The street was quiet—too quiet—and there was a dark alleyway to her right that seemed to be beckoning her toward it. She hesitated, unsure of what to do, and that's when she heard the sound of footsteps behind her.
