Chapter Three

Cole snapped awake when he returned to his own body. His breathing became ragged and he felt a stab of pain at his groin. Even outside of his mind her presence was known…and he was painfully aware of that fact. He could still smell her, her scent felt as if it hung on him. He growled as he rolled out of bed and stretched.             An ice cold shower is what he needed right about now. He paced to the shower and slammed on the cold water to its highest setting. He jumped in and let the cold water wash away the burning sensation that was left behind on his skin. He clenched his fists against the shower wall as he leaned forward.             Curse her for making his body ache, for making him want to lose control…for him to burn for her. He wanted her and he growled at himself for wanting to take complete control over her precious little body. He wanted to do things that he felt ashamed of. He wanted to feel her squirm under the weight of his body and hear her scream with pleasure as he felt himself release deep inside of her while she cried out his name.             He wanted to feel that perfect mouth all over his body, tasting him slowly. Stop! He couldn’t think like this. She didn’t belong to him, and that angered him more than anything. He couldn’t picture her in another man’s arms making love to her and having her for all eternity. The thought made his temper almost explode.             Without thinking, his fist blew into the tile wall of the shower. He blinked as he pulled his hand out of the fresh monstrous hole in the shower wall. “s**t, now I got to put that on my very long list of things to do.” He mumbled under his breath as he shut off the water.             He put a towel around his waist and walked out of his bathroom. He walked over to the bed and sat down as he ran his fingers through his thick black hair. He rubbed his yellow-brown eyes and looked over at the clock sitting on his nightstand. He dressed and headed out the door, he couldn’t be late or Havoc would have his head.                                                                                                  ***             Moonshine woke up shortly after the mysterious Cole left her alone by the lake. Why was he so different than what she would have imagined her dream guy? He should be everything she had ever wanted in a man…after all she did create him. The only thing she was satisfied with was the way he looked and appeared. At least her mind had done alright in that division.              She sighed as she did a cat like stretch. She yawned real loud and looked around the cave to see that no one had stirred yet except for Sam. Isaiah was curled close to Sarah in pup form and Sarah was laying on the rock curled up with him in human form.             It was a habit that just happened and didn’t seem to want to break. While she sleeps her body goes to human form. It became kind of a joke between the pack, no one seemed to understand why when she falls asleep in wolf form she wakes up a human. So they all joked that she was the reverse storybook were-wolf, man by day, beast by night.             Moon carefully made her way outside, taking care that she didn’t wake the others with their sensitive hearing. She looked around in the bright morning light to check for any danger. It was a beautiful spring morning, animals were everywhere and the temperature was just right.             As she walked around the area, she couldn’t seem to get her mind off Cole. His image kept popping up into her head and she woofed at herself, hoping it would go away. It didn’t and she just gave up trying to forget that gorgeous man.             He haunted her mind, soul, and her body was even starting to react at the very thought of him. She licked her chops as she came up to a watering hole and stuck her nose down to it. She stared at her reflection as she drank. She stopped and just looked at herself, she would never be the same wolf again. The old Moonshine was gone…forever. She would be forever locked up inside of herself for the rest of her life and never to return.             Tears filled her eyes as she ruined the reflection with her paw. She couldn’t ever look at herself again; it only brought painful memories back. She could still feel those slimy hands all over her body, moving over her like she was nothing more than some w***e that he forced to meet his personal needs and desires.             She didn’t want anything to do with the world anymore and soon she wouldn’t just be some girl in the picture that is only seen and not heard from.                                                                                              ***             Cole had an uneasy feeling creep up his spine as he started walking with his comrades. He hated referring to them as his family but it is what it is, he preferred to call them comrades. That way they won’t get offended and he can be at peace by not calling them family. He didn’t fully understand why the Enemy clan even called themselves a family.             All they ever really did was cause disaster and hunt together. Hell, they all could barely stand each other, but because of the whole family mumbo jumbo they couldn’t kill each other without there being consequences.             A disgusting bark came from behind Cole and he started to growl a bit when he started talking to him. “Hey Cole…have any fun with your new victim?” the mangy wolf taunted as he licked his disgusting yellow teeth.             Cole smirked mischievously, “Don’t know…you didn’t expect me to have all my fun in one night did ya?” oh the truth of what he just said. He would die if last night was the only night that he could have had his fun. If it was then he would have made love to that sweet innocence all night long. But he knew damn well that isn’t what this mangy fleabag was talking about. And it strangely disgusted him.             The wolf did a hardy laugh and wheezed. “I figured as much. You gunna make the b***h suffer for’ you finish er’ off eh?” he made a mean and nasty smile up towards Cole.             This was the last wolf Cole would ever like to associate with, but he kept his mouth shut about what he thought of them and just went along with it like he has his whole life. “You know me too well you old scruff.” Cole teased and rubbed the wolf’s head.             The wolf made a disapproving snarl and barked up a storm. “Damn you and your teenage angst. I swear to them damn gods I hate you smartass kids nowadays. All yall do is make them dumbass remarks!” he eased himself up and went back to his somewhat calm self.             Cole smiled large and kept going ahead to meet the rest of the pack. He leaned against the tree and sighed as the wolf sat on his hindquarters by Cole’s feet. “How much longer we gotta wait here for the rest of those mongrels Monty?” the wolf looked up at him and c****d his head.             Monty barked loudly and snorted as he stuck his tongue out. “Hell, I don’t know…and boy, watch how you talk to me. You may be old nough’ to not have a guardian, but I don’t know if you smartasses have heard, but there is a lil thing called respectin’ your elders.”             Cole rolled his eyes, he hated having to be lectured by the likes of him. It was everyday, all day he had to listen to Monty’s rubbish. “Ya, sure pops.” Cole replied in a blah tone and he could have sworn he heard Monty’s head blow up.             Just before Monty could get his opinion and come back out, a sharp bark came from ahead of them. “Montgomery, Cole, enough!” Cole took his foot down from the tree and stood up straight. Monty froze and kept his posture in shape as he faced where the sharp bark had come from.             Havoc crept over to them and the rest of the pack. His muscular body of black and blonde fur strode into view and his piercing black eyes stared at everyone. The deep scar across his face made him look more intimidating than he already was, and most people thought that was impossible.             “We have better things to do than have silly pup-play. We are the enemy clan for crying out loud!” Havoc bellowed and the packs ears all went back in fear and shame. Cole lowered his head and removed his crossed hands from his chest and placed them to his side. Showing any type of defiance or no acknowledgment was the last thing you want to do with Havoc.             He snarled at everyone and took his attention back to what he was originally going to ramble about. It was all a blur to him what he was saying, all he could think about was the luscious lips and tempting body that his body very much wanted to take control of.             He straightened even more as he felt the bulge in his pants get tighter. Damn, he hoped nobody has noticed. Anybody in this sick group wouldn’t know what he truly was getting turned on about. The only thing that seemed obvious to them was that he had the hots for Havoc. The thought instantly made him cringe and his hard on quickly died.             What a buzz kill Cole made a disgusted face as his thoughts were corrupted and polluted by the likes of Havoc. He shivered and then averted his attention back to the sweet little wolf that he not only haunted in her dreams but haunted his dreams as well. But he couldn’t shake off the feeling of dread as he thought about her. Something wasn’t right with her…he could feel it.             “Now, do you all understand?” Havoc yelled as he turned around to leave back into the forest. Everyone barked in unison and turned about their business. Cole turned in the direction his gut told him.             She was uneasy, no she was emotionally unstable and he could feel her discomfort. Cole’s fingernails lengthened into claws and his canine teeth exploded into his mouth. His snout and fur blasted out and his bones crackled as he contorted into his wolf form.             He ran all the way back to his home and stood up on his hind legs by the back door, checking to see if anyone was watching. His back legs morphed into human legs and worked its way up until he was completely into human form. He went inside his house and went straight for the bedroom.             She was going to sleep and he knew exactly where he would find her. He needed to be there every breathing second he could. He strangely couldn’t think of his life without knowing she was ok and well. He drifted his mind in her direction as he lay down on the bed and closed his eyes. Within seconds he went limp.                                                                                              ***             Moonshine was crying her eyes out as she ran through the forest in her human form. She never cried…only here did she cry, in the safety of her own mind. She cried as she stopped against a tree and she looked forward where she heard a noise up ahead. She wiped her nose with her sleeve and felt ashamed that anyone, even unreal had to see her tears.             Cole casually walked up to her with his hands tucked into his pants pocket. The sight of him and his too gorgeous face brought color to her face. He came up to her and his eyes softened as he gazed down at her and cupped her head in his hand. The pad of his thumb brushed against a tear that was falling down her cheek.             More color flushed into her face as she just stared at him. He pulled her close to him and she clutched at his shirt as she buried her face in his chest. She cried even harder as he wrapped his arms around her and embraced her. She couldn’t explain why she felt so safe and protected in his arms. It actually kind of made her feel better.             She looked up at him with misty eyes and he looked down at her to give her a smile. “No more tears, a pretty woman like you don’t need to be crying.” His deep voice fell over her like silky velvet. She instantly felt her legs get weak and she felt her insides get hot.             He making her melt like this, even in her own mind should be illegal. Moon fought off the urge to giggle. She obviously wasn’t the only one who was aroused. She felt something rubbing against her leg and she was sure it wasn’t a cell phone. He took a deep breath as he realized she noticed.             “Well this is embarrassing.” He blushed and Moon couldn’t help but smile. He smiled and she melted to a pool of liquid. Her heart jumped and she almost collapsed, died, and flew to heaven. She could stay here forever in his arms like this.             She froze and the color drained from her face. No, she wouldn’t fall for it again…the last time she trusted a male with her… No! Her knees gave out and he caught her as she fell. Images of the past flashed in front of her and she couldn’t go through that again. Not now, not ever.             “Are you ok? What’s wrong?” he asked concerned. She looked into his eyes with terror filled in them. His eyes looked so soft and loving, how could she not trust him? He was in her head…it’s not like he can just escape and tell everyone about her secrets. That couldn’t happen, he isn’t real. But she wasn’t just about to trust a total stranger, even if make believe, about her life and her secrets, of what she really is and the world that her and her friends die to protect.             “Nothing, my past is just randomly bothering me.” She let out a bitter huff. “Actually, it’s kind of a paranoia I live with. Stupid I know but it haunts me…every breathing second of my life.” She admitted something she hasn’t really admitted…even to herself.             “What could you possibly be paranoid about? You’re so young, you couldn’t possibly have such a treacherous past that it should consume you.” His words normally would have just pissed her off. He was pulling a Sam on her and she hates that more than anything. His words actually kept her emotions in check.             “You have no idea…if you have seen what I have gone through…you wouldn’t be saying that, and I can assure you that I’m quite paranoid about it.” She calmly closed her eyes and she laid her head against his chest. She was tired, emotionally she was tired and weak, and she was going to crash. It was only a matter of time before she came down and her world fell apart.                                                                                                  ***             As she slept he concentrated on her emotional status. He could feel how deep the scars went, how young she was when whatever happened to her happened. He almost wanted to weep from how truly sad she was. Even in her peaceful sleep when she looked like a graceful angel, you could see how sad and troubled she was.             What happened to her though remained a mystery to him. He couldn’t pry or she would notice that he wasn’t a creation of her mind and that he was an intruder. He would have to get closer to her and find out somehow.                 He was curious, he laughed at himself as he wondered if curiosity could kill the dog as well as the cat. Because honey, he was in the lion’s den and his curiosity might as well have already gotten him killed.
